I thought I was building a racing rip for myself.Turns out I was just building a very expensive dog chair. The look on his face says: "Thanks for making this for me."I guess my racing setup has a new owner now.

Rigs After years I was able to by a very simple rig for me and my dad

Post image
134 Upvotes

My father is a drag race pilot and always watched me play but never wanted to try bc of not liking controllers… and bc the races are months apart, I could see that he wanted something to do between them. So after I finally got a stable job I bought this for him as a Father’s Day present (yep I will use it too hahahahah)

I know that it’s very simple compared to the ones I see here… where I live everything is very expensive but the fun that we are having made it worth it. For now we are using my old ps4 to play, since I need my pc (it’s not that good too) in my room to work and we have project cars 2, drive club, nfs heat and gran turismo 7.

Any recommendations for games on the ps4? I saw that it has asserto corsa but it won’t have the mods.

🧐 Customer Review Logetich G Pro DD, How does it compare to other Direct drive in this range?

Post image

In terms of force feedback is it better or Moza r12, r9, Fanatec CSL DD 8nm , Logetich Rs 50, T818, simagic alpha mini. How is its force feedback compared to those
I could maybe get one used for like 545-580 dollars with the wheel or get Moza r9 base for 300-350 dollars and probably I’ll find a third party wheel for 100 dollars or find a Moza esx for like 150-200

Most reviews about it are older like few years old espically the one comparing it, so I am not sure if it’s worth the strech

Talked him down to $1500 for the entire setup with the r21 moza wheel base. He also mentioned a triple monitor setup he would add on. Should I jump on it? Receipts have been attached to all of the items included.

Rigs Far from perfect, but getting closer and closer

I just received today the 3D prints I sent out. They are just as flawed as was the waterjet cut steel, but for the test, it is just fine. Ergonomics are perfect, for me at least (diameter is 32.5cm).
For now, I will not waste my alcantara reserves for this piece, instead I start to look for better manufacturer...

Rigs My new/first rig - still have some tweaks in mind

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Thought I would share my first rig. Just got it up and running last weekend, and still tweaking. The original thought was to just upgrade my wheel. Then after getting the wheel, found out that I couldn't just clamp it to my desk any more. Which sparked the thought to get a rig and reuse some old hardware that I have sitting about. Which turned into a lot of purchases and upgrades.

And what started as an urge to race again, all that I've done so far is ATS. Loving it though.

Question Why is choosing a sim racing setup harder than racing itself?

Thumbnail

I thought picking my first DD setup would be the easy part.

Turns out choosing the gear is almost harder than learning to drive.

I’ve been comparing different setups from Fanatec, MOZA, and SIMAGIC, but reviews only tell me so much. I want to know what the actual driving differences feel like from people who have used them.

What would you focus on when choosing a DD wheelbase?

Maybe it’s a small detail, but the moment I turn on my simagic setup and see the lights come on still feels amazing.

Question My step dad’s terminally ill i want want to get him a sim seat!

Upvotes

So my stepdad is ill and he’s tried some racing games but can’t understand the controller. So his birthday is in 3 weeks and I have a g29 I don’t use but he needs a seat and stand. I just need it to be easy to pack away (space isn’t a problem) and to also profitably use his office chair. Does anyone have anything similar they’ve set up? Any recommendations?

Question Where to learn cat physics and detailed setups?

Hello.
I am in sim racing since begging of this year (iRacing, Assetto Corsa). I am getting constantly better even with longer breaks from sims due to commitments, but my issue is I do not understand the car physics well.
I rely heavy on already made setups. I prefer oversteer but when it comes to setup the car myself I am at a lost and usually I setup the car even worse.

Do you have any recommendations where to learn detailed car physics in sim racing? Channels, tutorials etc.
I know there are a lot of youtube tutorials but which creator (not only YT) do you recommend the most?

Edit: sorry about the typo in the title 🤣🤣

Edit 2: laughing hard atall the cat jokes, you guys dont disappoint 🤣🤣

Rigs I bought this defective load cell and will try to recover it

I am posting this to help anyone that runs in the same problem and to validate Gemini's future responses.

I am assembling my diy rig and bought this 200kg load cell from AliExpress. Yesterday I connected everything, tried to read the signal from the amplifier and... Nothing, just noise.

I asked Gemini what it could be, and it said that the problem was probably the cable connection to the micro PCB in the cell's entrance. I doubted it very much, but I measured the resistance between the cables and only the red one showed an open circuit to the others, and the values were consistent with an intact wheatstone bridge.

Since the cell was already out of warranty, I went for it.

So I picked my knife, started to dig the white silicone as carefully as I could (not much), and voilà: the red cable was indeed disconnected and cemented under resin, and Gemini was right this time.

Now I'm gonna try to solder it back somehow.

I'll be back with the updates

Rigs Playseat Throphy setup finally completed!

Thumbnail

Finally completed my Playseat Throphy setup and wanted to share it as i'm really proud of the result.

Also adressed some issues i had with the chair that could be helpfull for others.

Immersion mods:

- Simagic Neo Rumble Haptics on left and right side of the chair to simulate the curbs. There is also one behind the brake pedal for ABS.

- Webcam for head tracking with Beam Eye and OpenTrack -> have it setup really subtle, works great

- Simube steering shaft extension for dual purpose: 1. Get a better seating position

  1. Create extra room for the monitor so it could sit in front of the base to get some better FOV.

- Amazon second monitor for a dedicated rear view mirror

- OC Racing Windsim

Playseat throphy mods:

- Added a second 'lumbar support' as i find i did not had enought support just above the middle of my back.

- Beacause of the second lumbar i was able to squeeze a cushion in between both supports. Giving extra comfort at the whole back of the seat

- Zip tied the seat part and the pedal part together. As alot of people mentioned the screws in the rig don't have enaugh clamping force for the braking applied with a load cell. Maybe not the cleanest solutions, but the seat hasn't moved an inch since.

Discussion What is going on with the LMU community?

People are vehemently defending the joker / P2W mechanics on the LMU sub (is there any question it is pay to win?) How is this so tolerated by sim racers in a competitive multiplayer game?

People who are frustrated at the $20 for 2 track packs are getting harassed in the comments (a lot of the defense is “oh Studio 397 need to make money too” as if they weren’t massively profitable last quarter. and the “Iracing is more expensive still crowd”)

Have they trained us so well that we just always hand over fist money without question?

I’ve never seen a sub so blindly defending bad development practices. It’s so bizarre.

—-

a lot of projection and bitterness in the comments, i won’t interfere

my point is competitive integrity, call me naive but I never thought there was that much debate about what qualifies as competitive integrity

Question I need a replacement part for my rseat p1

Upvotes

I have the rseat p1 and my pedal sliders aren’t locking. Whenever I press on my pedals the rails slide all the way back. I tried contacting rseat but couldn’t get a response. Does anyone know of a replacement part I can get?

Discussion The "iRacing vs LMU" tribalism is getting tiresome. Competition is good for us.

Is it just me, or is the constant dunking on iRacing from LMU fans (and some content creators) getting a bit out of hand lately?

I’m primarily an iRacing guy, but I gave LMU a fair shot and honestly loved how the cars feel and how the FFB communicates the tires. Right now, I stick to iRacing because of the optimization, netcode reliability, and sheer amount of cars and tracks. But I’m seriously rooting for LMU to get polished up. If they fix the performance issues and expand the content, I’d gladly main LMU for sports cars and endurance while keeping iRacing for ovals and special events.

Shitting on whichever sim you don't play doesn't help anyone. When a new game comes out with physics or hybrid mechanics that raise the bar, it forces iRacing to actually innovate instead of getting comfortable. We all win when there's competition.

My only real concern for LMU long-term is what happens if/when it hits consoles. If a massive influx of casual controller players comes in without a strict safety rating system to keep things in check, the online lobbies are going to turn into a complete crashfest.

Either way, I want to see LMU succeed, and I don't get why so many people act like you have to pick a team. Anyone else feel the same way?

Rigs I'm planning my first serious sim rig.

Hello! i'm planning to switch from my g29 base setup to these components:

  • Simagic Alpha Mini (10 Nm)
  • Simjack UT load-cell brake and throttle
  • Samsung Odyssey G5 Ultra wide
  • Huzaro Speed 6.0 Cockpit
  • Simagic GT Neo 300mm QR50

Budget is around 1,400 Euro
Is there anything you would change before I order?
