Flights From East Coast Getting Cancelled

I was supposed to fly out at 5 PM EST today but my flight was cancelled & pretty much every flight out of the NY/NJ airports are cancelled until at least Thursday morning. The earliest non-standby flight I could book gets in at 12:41 PM so by the time my friend picks me & I drop my stuff off I’ll already have missed half the day. And I only have badges for Thursday & Sunday. I doubt SDCC will do anything to help make it up for those who are going to be missing time from the convention because of the tornadoes & storms. Just incredibly frustrating.

Update: I was able to rebook my flight so that I get into John Wayne at 5 PM today. Fingers crossed there’s no more delays or cancellations. I’ll just ride with my friend & her GF to SD once she’s done with work. Just have to stop by the SD airport to pick up my bag since it was able to get there at 3 AM this morning.

I built a free, unofficial SDCC app for first-timers and crews: crew planning, real maps, and a cosplay medic finder

Post image

Hey y'all, I'm on the Fankind team. We've been building this free app to help fans get more out of their weekend at SDCC: plan with your crew, find your way around, and not miss the stuff you'd actually want to see.

If this is your first Comic-Con, or you're bringing a crew of friends, the weekend is fun chaos from minute one. We built this so you can cut through it and make the most of your time, together.

  • Plan with your crew. Everyone saves what they want, and it shows what you'd all actually want to do together, instead of running the weekend out of five group chats.
  • The whole con in one place. Official panels, offsites, parties, meetups, booth signings and drops, all in one schedule.
  • Con news in one feed, instead of jumping between six accounts and blogs to keep up.
  • What's happening right around you while you're at the con, so you don't miss a signing or a line drop happening a few booths away.
  • A map that actually gets you there, including step-free routes if stairs and escalators aren't an option for you.
  • Cosplay medic finder. If a strap snaps or a wig pin gives out, find help nearby fast. You can also sign up as a medic yourself.
  • Find your crew on the floor when the crowd swallows everyone and your group chat goes quiet.

It's at Fankind on the App Store or fankind dot app (iOS, Android, or web). Unofficial, not affiliated with Comic-Con.

Let us know how we can improve it, we're making changes throughout the con and will try to get updates in for you. Have a great con either way.

Am still new to how all the panels work. Do I need a wrist band or anything for this? Or do I just line up stupidly early?

Time to line up for DCC/Audible panel in Indigo on Sat?

Curious if anyone has thoughts about what time to line up for the DCC/Audible panel in Indigo on Saturday. It’s at 10am, the first panel of the day. I don’t need to be right up front, but I want to be in the room.

The first Coaster hits Santa Fe around 8, so I can be in line around 8:30, or I’d need to get a ride down there earlier (I’m in North County).

I see DCC is everywhere this year, so I’m having a hard time gauging interest in Matt’s panels. Thanks!

Packing Weather Forecast

Looks like it will be a pretty hot Con. But keep in mind that Southern California forecasts can change quite a bit in just a few days.

Be sure to pack your sunscreen for outside, and a light sweater or light hoodie for cold panel rooms inside and the ocean breeze after the sun goes down.

.

Day Forecast High Low Humidity
Wed 22 Partly Sunny 79°F/26°C 71°F/22°C 75%
Thu 23 Sunny 82°F/28°C 68°F/20°C 69%
Fri 24 Sunny 80°F/27°C 70°F/21°C 70%
Sat 25 Sunny 79°F/26°C 68°F/20°C 73%
Sun 26 Partly Sunny 79°F/26°C 68°F/20°C 75%

If you’re planning on sleeping on the ground overnight, be aware that it gets very damp overnight and pre-dawn.

How long is ticket pick up?

Hey guy, just landed in LA X from Melbourne and am heading to San Diego. Debating going straight to the convention centre to grab tickets and passes and then dropping them back to my accom, or going there first to shower drop off luggage.

Just wondering how many hours it will take to grab the tickets?

Off-Site Events #SaveStargate Campaign Attends San Diego Comic Con with Flyover and Other Events

Just got this in press email, passing along if anyone looking for more offsite things!

Calling on Amazon MGM Studios to Keep Series In TV Universe Canon

Hi friends -

You may have heard the news: Amazon MGM Studios' planned new Stargate series was abruptly cancelled in June after weeks of pre-production prep. #SaveStargate, a fan-organised and funded movement, has worked tirelessly for the last two months to prove that an active, dedicated audience exists for this content.

#SaveStargate plans to attend San Diego Comic Con in force this weekend to raise awareness about the campaign with like-minded sci-fi fans. The campaign also intends to reach out to Amazon MGM Studios, hoping to work with them to bring a new Stargate series to life. We have three main events planned over the weekend. A Save Stargate banner flyover of the convention center, a party at Bay City Brewery on Friday, and an unveiling of a new 5e D&D Stargate module on Saturday. We invite co-goers to join us and play this brand new game written specifically for the #SaveStargate campaign. There will also be a cosplay contest and a fan meet-up.

Booths.

Just a simple question which I did scout a bit, but haven't really seen enough to have a clear answer.

Aside from the major booths that have exclusives and time slots (funko 100%, UCC, etc)

Can you...........

A) just wait in line after the lotto people are done (around 3pm or something like that) and get items that way at the end of any given day

B) is there any time restrictions on booths that didn't have exclusive lotto tickets?

Im assuming that most vendors are just wait in line to get in at any time of day with no restrictions.

Apologize for the question if its been asked. First con, happy new experiences.

SDCC First Time

Any groups want to adopt me (24M) for the weekend lol? From Florida, first time attending SDCC, I’ve got Preview night through Sunday, but I don’t know anyone in Cali except for some vendor buddies, but they’ll of course be working.

I’m a full time vendor (exhibit at NYCC, Megacon, ECCC, etc ) so not new to conventions, but this’ll be my first time as an attendee, so entirely new experience.

Most excited to just check out the show floor, but down for anything.
Hope yall have a good weekend.
