Local Question Ironwood Ink Tattoo shop won't refund my $400 deposit after the artist canceled 2 hours before my appointment

I’m  a travel nurse, so my schedule is pretty fixed and I don't live in the area curious if I'm being unreasonable here.

I booked a tattoo appointment and paid a $400 deposit 1.5 months ago. Two hours before my appointment, the artist canceled. I completely understand that emergencies and unexpected things happen, and I wasn't upset about the cancellation itself.

The issue is what happened afterward.

The shop offered me a few dates to reschedule, but none of them work because my travel contract ends soon and I'll be leaving the area. I explained that I wouldn't be in town anymore and asked if I could get my deposit refunded since the cancellation wasn't on my end.

They told me the deposit is non-refundable but said I could book with another artist at the shop. The problem is that I specifically chose this artist. Absolutely no hate to the other artists, but I am not interested in anyone else doing my tattoo and I am not interested in getting the tattoo from someone else just to avoid losing my deposit.

From my perspective, I held up my end of the agreement. I showed up, was available for my appointment, and the cancellation came from the artist. Since they couldn't accommodate my schedule before I leave, it feels unfair that I'm out the deposit.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? I have filed a chargeback, and I want to avoid having to pursue this legally.

Local News Bob Walls turns 103, still works at Steve Hogan golf course

Steve Hogan Golf Course at Miller Park has always been a special place to me. It's where I got my very first birdie. (#9 from the men's tees!)

As a regular golfer there, I can honestly say this man is one of the best parts of the course. He's given me so many golf tips and swing adjustments over the years, and I'm grateful for every one of them.

And while we're giving shout-outs, Mike the pro is an absolute gem too, especially when he's there with Star, his dog. (My kiddo loves that dog)

If you're ever playing at Steve Hogan and see any of them, take a moment to say hello. They're a big part of what makes that course special in North O.

Politics Omaha and $15 minimum wage - kudos

Despite the threat of litigation from AG Hilgers, the Omaha City Council passed an ordinance, signed by Mayor Ewing, that basically upholds the law approved by voters in 2022, establishing a $15 minimum for all workers (not just adults). Kudos to the 4-3 majority and Mayor Ewing. AG Hilgers won a temporary injunction against a similar Lincoln ordinance last week. That, however, was with a Lancaster County District Court judge who agreed solely that Hilgers had standing to sue and did not rule on the merits. If and when Hilgers files suit in Douglas County District Court, it remains to be seen whether he will draw a judge who sides with the people or with the Pillen/Raybould axis on wages.

I think the broader point has to due with how this state, time and time again, speaks lip service to the idea that we should stop the brain drain, but acts in a way that says to young people, we don't want you here. As of January 1, 2026, 17 states and DC have a minimum wage of $15 plus. And during this year and next, many more will join this list. Why should Nebraska be left behind?

Especially in Omaha. Rents are rising year over year. Gas is back up to $4/gallon. Groceries are getting more and more expensive. Let's not even get into how much other energy costs will start spiking as the Iran war drags on.

I think the majority of the Omaha City Council and Mayor Ewing should be praised for their stance on this issue. Let's push them to do more on things like housing code enforcement, sustainability, and eliminating at-will employment.

Local Question Looking for DnD/board game group

Hello, I am a 32 year old man looking for some DnD or board game groups. I need a reason to leave the house on the weekends, and would appreciate it if anyone has any space in their group. If anyone has any recommendations where to meet people for such activities, those recommendations are welcome as well.

It should be noted that I shower regularly and I’m not a misogynist or racist yet.

Local Question Need to make some friends here badly after moving far away from home

I know how cliche and typical this sort of post might seem, but I am in desperate need of some people to be friends with and hang out with here. I recently moved here from work and basically started new. Ever since then I’ve had all sorts of issues and mental breakdowns, and I have an itch that it might be from feeling extremely lonely and out of place from being from a completely different state.

That all being said, what are some places where I can go and meet some new people that could possibly be friends? I think I’m pretty easy to get along with, just pretty quiet at first. Any advice, locations, help or even invitations would be greatly appreciated. Again, I apologize if this post seems sorta cringe or cliche. Thank you

Local Question Neighbor’s sprinkler heads

My neighbor has 360 sprinkler head one 1 inch away from our newly installed wooden back fence. The head keeps leaking, spraying water all over the fence, and creating a swampy mess in my backyard.

Neighbor has previously flooded part of the backyard with this same sprinkler head the last couple of years. Like foot stepping into water and mud flooded. When we asked him to fix it, he simply said the head was buried.

However, it continues to create ongoing issues, killing plants and flooding the area in greater and greater quantities. Not to mention, we are worried about the constant wet from half the water of his sprinkler head spraying the fence.

Our yard doesn’t look like this when it simply rains. We have politely asked the neighbor nicely several times to either move the head, adjust the head to 180 so that it only sprays their side, and even offered to buy a new head for them, but our neighbor refuses to cooperate.

What are our options? Are we able to do anything?

TIA!

Local Question Oppd and Bankruptcy?

I’m going to be filing bankruptcy (mainly medical debt) and possibly including my electric bill with it (1k). My question is has anyone ever done this and what was the outcome? I’m worried they refuse service and since there’s no other electric company I’d be screwed as I’m on my own. Thank you in advance.

Talk to me about YMCA’s child watch. Anyone have experience with using the service? How experienced are the people watching the kids? I’m a new member to the YMCA and wondering about others experience with the child watch program. Not trying to use it as daycare but would like to be able to work out alone. Thanks all!

Local Question Aksarben Run Club

Hey y’all! By any chance, does anybody here attend regularly the Wednesday evening runs at the Aksarben Run Club? I’ve already been a couple of times now by myself and I’ve been struggling on meeting new people, it almost feels like everyone knows each other already here. Just looking to see if anyone else have had the same experience as me and are looking for an opportunity to socialize a bit more.

I’m a 25 year old Latino guy and I enjoy doing cardio! At the moment I’ve been slowly but surely picking up the pace and developing resistance but certainly a work in progress still lol. Feel free to message me if you’d like to connect and get to meet for the next session! :D

Food Does anyone know what kind of sauce they use at Taj Taste?

Upvotes

It’s so good! But I have no idea what it is. Anyone know what it’s called so I can look up a recipe. I know it’s different from other halal white sauces. It’s orange and very flavorful.

Moving Veteran looking for Rental

Does anyone have a place a veteran's family with poor credit and one blemish on rental history can rent from? Looking anywhere between Lincoln and Omaha, Council Bluffs, any of the small satellite towns that could make the Omaha commute.

We're a family of three (plus a cat) that just moved back into the area after providing in home end of life care to family in CT. I've picked up a job at Omaha Steaks, and have family to back me for deposit and first month's rent, or a couple months rent in advance, I just don't have anyone wanting to cosign anything all the way out here, all my family lives on the East Coast.

We aren't smokers, just the one cat (well behaved), no dogs, no other pets, no felonies.

I'm a maintenance man by trade if anyone knows anyone looking to rent a place out while getting it fixed up.

Thanks!

Local Question Not looking for a realtor recommendation, exactly, more like advice on choosing one.

Upvotes

my father passed away leaving a ~$300k house (with a reverse mortgage of $95k). not much else. my step brother and I want to sell, but we don’t want to use friends or family for realtors. but we also don’t really want to ask friends and family to recommend *their* friends and family either.

Besides that, I don’t even know what to look for in a realtor. What questions to ask? What to avoid? We’re getting some advice to sell it as a rental, which I want to avoid (idk why? I’m a renter myself I’d rather it not go to a greedy dirtbag maybe?) Somebody said I could sell it myself on Zillow??

This probably isn’t even the right sub to ask this. He was in southeast omaha and I wanna do right by his good neighbors, and honestly get the most we can for it fairly.
