Hi everyone,
I’m an American who’s trying to get into English football for the first time, and after looking around the Premier League, Newcastle United is the club I’m most interested in supporting.
The problem is I’m basically starting from zero. I know the basic rules of football, but I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to English football culture, rivalries, history, and what makes one club different from another.
I don’t want to be the stereotypical American who picks a team because they’re good and then pretends to know everything. I’d rather learn from the supporters themselves before fully committing.
A few questions:
What is it about Newcastle that makes people fall in love with the club?
What should every new supporter know about the club’s history?
Who are the biggest rivals, and why?
What moments define modern Newcastle?
Who are the club legends I should learn about?
Which current players best represent what Newcastle is all about?
What are some supporter traditions, chants, or matchday customs I should know?
What are the realistic expectations for the club over the next 5–10 years?
Lastly, why did you become a Newcastle fan?
Would appreciate any insight or information you could provide me, thanks.
