I have an issue i want to make sure I am not doing something incorrect.

My husband and I come from two different cultures. His family do an aqiqah where they slaughter the sheep on the 7th or 14th day and soon after (within a week) will host a huge celebration on behalf of the baby and bring everyone and anyone to this event.

My family would slaughter the sheep overseas to the poor and distribute the meat over there, a celebration isn't really done, and when visitors come to visit baby we serve sweets and coffee, they are usually short visits as we consider the first 40 days to be in the home.

The thing is, it is expected that the birth family is to host this aqiqah. So the parents of the newborn and whoever around that is wanting to help. This is my 3rd child so I am aware how big this can get, 100s of people coming to this event. Usually this is held in a hall or community centre but hubby wants to hold this at home now.

Am I being unreasonable to ask husband to wait at least a month for this? I get severe baby blues and obviously birth itself is hard to recover from, being told we need 6 weeks of recovery. When I mentioned this he just goes its Sunday and we have to slaughter on the 7th or 14th day which means the meat must be used not long after.

Islamicly, what's the ruling on the mothers recovery, aqiqah rulings of hosting such elaborate events, and obviously what i can say just to get him to understand we dont need 100 people in our house 7-14days after I have the baby all over us. No matter how much help you get from family, its never completely off of you and you always end up having to do something.

Has anyone else gone through this??
