Positive Raised my first $500 in savings

Might not seem like a lot but it is to me. Just wanted to say this because I am young but I had never put into savings, and I was the type of person to spend every last penny I got, so I am starting this change. Especially working minimum wage I want to be able to provide for people I care about without having to worry much about financials.

Self improvement I see a lot of people here talk about how miserable they are, but what surprises me is how many of them seem committed to staying miserable.

Upvotes

They'll explain why they hate their job, their relationship, their location, or their life in general. Then someone suggests a change, and suddenly every reason why change is impossible appears.

I understand that real responsibilities exist. Kids, health, finances, family obligations and those things matter. But those are not the situations I'm talking about.

I'm talking about people who are unhappy but refuse to take even a chance at something different because they're afraid it might fail.

But here's the thing: if your current life is misery, what exactly are you afraid of losing?

People treat change like the risky option. They imagine everything that could go wrong. They never imagine what could go right.

A life reboot is scary, but it also has something your current situation may not have; hope.

You can always go back. You can adjust. You can try something else. But staying in a life you hate and hoping it magically improves isn't a plan.

At some point, you have to ask yourself: if nothing changes, where will you be five years from now?

If the answer is "still miserable," then maybe the bigger risk isn't leaving.

Maybe the bigger risk is staying.

Self improvement What is one simple habit that quietly made your life better?

I am not talking about huge achievements or life-changing events. Just one small habit that didn't seem like much at first but slowly improved your daily life.

It could be waking up earlier, reading for 20 minutes, taking daily walks, limiting screen time, journaling, cooking at home, or something completely different.

Sometimes the smallest changes have the biggest long-term impact. I'd love to hear what worked for you and why you think it made such a difference.

I am looking for practical ideas that anyone can realistically start this week.

Relationships Never had a girlfriend in high school and I can't get over it.

For many people, it is common and normal to have a high school sweetheart, where they experience their first kiss. Where they feel that pure and simple sense of love. The exalted bliss of reciprocated love. Some of them spend the rest of their lives together, some of them break up and forget about each other and some of them remain friends. But they at least have that experience.

For me though, it was torture. I tried asking a girl out 2 times. Both times I was laughed at and thoroughly humiliated. It got so bad that whenever we walked by each other on the corridor, the girl and her friends laughed at me like a was a clown for having asked out. It left me traumatized and I had to witness other people walking hand in hand with each other. I had no friends in school. I was completely lonely and isolated.

Later in life, when I was around 24, I did lose my virginity. Slowly but surely, I started dating and had relationships with girls. So I'm aware that I'm better off than the 40 year old virgins who've never even touched a woman.

And yet, I can't help but wish that I experienced love during my time in high school. Not sure how to describe it in english, but I just regret that I never experienced love in high school. I grew up with a narcississtic mother and an even more narcississtic older brother who bullied me. At one point I was even suicidal.

So even by now, I have experienced love and amazing sex with quite a few girls, this regret has haunted me.

Let's discuss How do some people fit in from the beginning, and others just never seem to fit in no matter how hard they try?

We all know those people in school or college that just naturally fit in from the get go. They’re instantly accepted by people, easily make friends, they can just make connections but on the other hand, others never seem to be able to make a friend, be in the it crowd, or anything. What is the deciding factor for that from the jump?

Because that’s a mystery for me.

Need Advice I am struggling for money and just found out my son has stolen over $3.6k from me over the last 2 years to buy Roadblox money.

Im totally defeated. Feel like I failed as a Dad. I suffer from depression and was actually getting better till last night. Irony of the whole situation was this was money I was saving for his braces.

Yes I know keeping cash around wasnt smart but I didnt know he knew the code to my safe and it was money I got from doing freelance building work ontop of my normal job.

How do I go on? What... if anything can I say to even attempt to feel anything but hurt?

Need Advice I was a social reject as a kid. Does it matter when I’m older?

My childhood was filled with social rejections. I said things out of line. I was extremely insecure about myself. I’m living in the moment and it is good. Is there anything to hold onto from the past life? Does this kind of stuff impact you when you’re older?

Let's discuss Are we choosing our own lives, or just following a path we were given?

I've been thinking about how much of our lives are shaped by the expectations we grow up with.

From a young age, many of us are taught what a "successful" life is supposed to look like:

Go to school. Get a good job. Get married. Have children. Buy a house. Follow the usual path.

But how often do we actually stop and ask ourselves: "Is this the life I truly want?"

Sometimes I wonder if people chase certain goals because they genuinely desire them, or because they've been taught that these things are what they're supposed to want. Maybe some people feel like they're falling behind because they don't have a relationship, a family, a certain career, or a certain lifestyle, when in reality they never took the time to figure out what would actually make them happy.

I'm not saying those things are bad. Marriage, children, careers, and stability can be beautiful things. But should we choose them because they align with who we are, or because society tells us they're the definition of success?

What if we encouraged people from a young age to first discover themselves, their values, their passions, and the kind of life they want to build?

Do you think most people are living lives they truly chose, or are many people just following a path that was already laid out for them?

Self improvement Success vs. Fulfillment. Do we confuse them constantly?

We treat life like a checklist of external milestones (status, titles, metrics), but hitting those goals often leaves us feeling empty.

Success is external, it asks, "Did I achieve it?"

Fulfillment is internal, it asks, "Does this actually matter to me?"

You can be wildly successful and totally miserable, or live simply and feel deeply fulfilled.

Have you ever hit a major "success" that didn't bring fulfillment?

How do you balance the two?

r/Life 7h ago

Positive Interesting balance you need..

There's also an interesting balance you need to strike between being delusional about what you can possibly achieve & being grounded in the reality of what your limits are.

Need Advice Is it crazy to leave a good paying job for an internship?

I'm in a job in my sector that doesn't pay badly, but I don't like my position neither the ethos of the company or the product we work. I'm in a sales job only because that's where I did my first internship as, but that's not what I would like to do. It's also very much in office and the corporate mentality they have is bullshit.

So I thought, if I found an internship in a position that I loved, would it be crazy to leave this paying job in order to do it? I'm in my twenties

Let's discuss Mistakes are made to be lessons for a better tomorrow.

One thing that people don't like is to be associated with is being a 'failure' or failing in life. But what happens after failing or making a mistake, 'choices have consequences and we are a product of our choices'

I did many mistake in the past, I was that stubborn, troublesome child my parents didn't like it at the age of 12 I acknowledged I was wrong was willing to change, I worked on myself and we were proud of this. Since then I hate it when I see someone saying I wanted to do this and that but I didn't because I thought it won't work.

Don't limit your capabilities because you think you're unfit to do a certain thing, just try it if you fail you'll learn from it. No one was born perfect knowing everything all this came with trying and trying. What are your thoughts on this, making mistakes, learning, unlearning and relearning?

Entertainment & Gaming Why do you think we simultaneously love and hate PVP games?

I play Smash Bros, Rocket League and Marvel Rivals among other titles. It’s enjoyable to pop off after you gain momentum but losing streaks makes you wish you didn’t even get these games in the first place, so I’m curious to see what others think about their own experiences within that aspect of gaming. Do we love PVP games because of what they are, or do we only just love to win?

Need Advice What should i do about my treatment?

So for the past 5 years I've been having a therapy because of my height my hormones were not doing a job and i needed to get hormones through certain medication, they said that i was done in February and today i went to the hospital for a checkup where they told me that there is a slight chance that the same hormone can kill me slowly and painfully, basically my whole body can start gaining weight and my bones could be aging twice as fast, so by the time i am 40 i would have bones of an 80year old. They say that i should stay for 4 days that they need to do all the tests that they have done the first time so that they can say that i am Healthy and if results show otherwise i would have to be on that therapy my whole life so that i could live normally. I can't do it anymore i am tired i have grown up there, i would be anxious every single time i went in there i don't believe that i can mentally survive in there for those 4 days i don't have it in me i just wanna be happy and not think about it they gave me about 6 months to decide, idk what to do anymore, i understand it's just four days but those four days feel more like 4 months in there. There is a blood work that they need to do where they take about 500ml of blood they drop your sugar levels till its minimum and it's extremely exhausting. What do you think?

Need Advice I’m always just bored

F(26) i cant find joy in not doing anything. I feel like ever since I was little I did not enjoy feeling boredom and always found a way to be constantly stimulated. As I got older I just kept traveling so much simply because why not and I didnt want to be bored or be boring. Now that I’m finally moved and settled, I find it all so boring. I’ve meditated and do meditate and enjoy it but then wake up and come right back to boredom. This makes it hard to be grateful and have an optimistic mindset. Should i quit smoking? Should I try to not use my phone? Id like to work on this and be totally fine and okay with not doing anything sometimes. Id like to feel free.

Self improvement My self-reflection journey on why I hated children

Something I learned after being on this Earth for more than two decades is that my dislike for children came from the fact that I was never allowed to get away with things kids (that currently surround me) do.

Coming from a family that valued sons over daughters, I was often ostracized and never given free will to do things that I wished to. My dislike for little children started at a very, very young age. I thought it was normal, but it wasn’t. Whenever a baby would cry, I would get angry and annoyed. I would think to myself ‘why isn’t the parent stopping that child from screaming? Where are it’s parents?’ because when I was a child, I was silenced. Crying in public was not something I was allowed while my brother did. As I grew older, I realized that the reason I hated kids was because I was jealous. Jealous that these children, who were spoiled, arrogant and downright selfish, were still loved. Still allowed to act the way they do. Allowed to break things and do whatever they wanted without repercussions while I wasn’t allowed to have anything for myself even when I was obedient and ‘low maintenance.’ I wasn’t allowed.

I am aware that children being unruly isn’t ‘love’ and permissive parenting should be discouraged, and yet, I found myself so angry that everyone seemed to be okay with these kids acting like there aren’t any consequences for their actions. When my 8 year old cousin broke my expensive makeup palettes after sneaking into my room, when my friend’s toddler sister pulled my cat’s whiskers out, when a kid at the cafe I go to spilled their drink on the table because they ‘didn’t want it.’ I hated children. These experiences only enforced it. I hated seeing them, hated being expected to have them some day, and hated people telling me to let it go because ‘kids are kids’ and they don’t know any better. To which I responded that I did. I knew better at that age. Because I wasn’t allowed to be a kid. Because when I made a mess, I was dealt with in horrible ways. I was punished for things that were out of my hands. And children don’t get punished at all.

And I understood then, that that’s why when I see children being children, the sorrow and grief I feel over them is just disguised as anger and annoyance. Because how dare they be loved when they aren’t perfect, when they make mistakes. How dare they be loved when they act their age. How dare they be kids.

That used to be my mentality. And it hurt me because I never hated anyone. I hated hating kids. I hated being seen as the freak who couldn’t stand children. I hated to hate. And the annoyance was innate. Children laughing used to trigger my irritation. It still sort of does. I physically couldn’t stand being near them even if I didn’t voice my contempt. This irrational anger ate at me whenever a child made their existence known loud and proud.

I asked myself why. I reflected on everything that would make me dislike kids so much. To the point where I couldn’t stand being near one. The way I would be forced to tolerate children, my needs being put below theirs, and the way I was supposed to let everyone walk all over me if they were younger.

Because my needs and wants weren’t taken into account. Ever. I was invalidated since I was a kid, myself. That’s why.

And the moment I realized that, I started to be kinder to myself. I let it go. I started giving myself more grace.

Kids do indeed not know better. Not all children are bad children. And even if I still get uncomfortable around them, I don’t let it turn to hatred. I forgave myself, and I told myself to be happy these children didn’t have parents like mine. Because at the end of the day, no child deserves to have parents like mine. No child deserves the trauma. And I love seeing loving families, even if it reminds me of everything I missed out on. I have forgiven my parents long ago. I left my family and cut ties. Sometimes, you reflect what you were raised around. Sometimes the problem is because you have unresolved issues. Things you never believed were a problem until you looked within. Ask yourself why you think the way you do. Ask yourself if you really want to be this person.

Some day, my mind will let go of the things that linger even now. But for now, this is enough. It isn’t a crime to be a child. I’m okay. And they’re okay, too.

One day at a time, everyone.

Need Advice Entropy's opposite dose anyone else remember - Intropy?

Ok so this is gonna sound crazy to some but bear with me, I woke up today and decided to write a blog on some physics concepts I had been thinking about, mainly how the forces of decay and destruction over time pair with the forces that pull and shape new structures into existence like gravity.

I have studied physics and cosmology all my life and am very familiar with these two aspects and their names in the scientific community. They are some of my favorites and I have even gone to several lectures on them throughout my life.

Intropy and Entropy -

Intropy bringing things into being, Entropy that which inevitably ends them.

There is only one problem.

My computer says Intropy is misspelled - I check Google, it also says it's misspelled. I do a more detailed search, Google has no idea what I'm talking about. I look things up more, detailed search, past research papers, every AI tool GPT, Claude, Gemini - even Bing, Grok.

None have any idea what I'm talking about - they all say oh maybe you mean syntropy or negentropy which by the way suck as names for this but also I have never heard before in all my life.

What the hell is going on? I have a great memory. I still remember parts of my life perfectly going back to being 2 years old. My parents actually always thought it was kind of freaky how good my memory was, not quite eidetic but damn close. I distinctly remember growing up learning these terms and using them in papers and hearing lectures on them. Hell I've been working on this paper for months and even remember writing in the paper about it previously without seeing any issues with the spelling or anything.

Now I look through my paper, those parts are gone and there is no mention of Intropy anywhere in the freaking WORLD. What the f is happening? I'm having the weirdest case of the Mandela Effect I've ever experienced. Feels like I just dropped into a different universe where everything else is the same but this one thing is just completely different.....

Does anyone else, anyone, remember Intropy and Entropy like this? I feel this so strongly in my mind it feels like there's no way I just got this wrong. I'm wondering, is there literally anyone else out there who remembers it this way too, like with the Mandela Effect? I feel I can't be the only one who remembers the history of the world differently than what the world is telling me now. Like this is actually driving me crazy. Gotta know, does anyone remember Intropy?

Need Advice Is it normal to constantly seek mental stimulation?

For context, I'm 29 (F), unmarried but in a happy relationship. That said, aside from being able to maintain a stable long-distance relationship, I can't seem to stick with anything else.

I'm from a third-world country. I did my undergrad in Physics, then a master's abroad in Photonics (a branch of physics focused on light — its manipulation, detection, applications, the whole works). I'm explaining this because people always have follow-up questions about what photonics actually is.

Before my master's, I spent four years exploring different career paths: electricity transmission, renewable energy, finance advisory, and software engineering. Very random, very niche, I know.

Post-master's, I've lived in four countries for different jobs and visited plenty more, because I genuinely love to travel. I've worked three different optics-and-photonics jobs since finishing my master's, with the most recent in optical transceivers for data center/AI industry.

The problem is that my lens is skewed — I look at everything as an adventure, and every good adventure has to end. So I'm constantly looking past my current horizon for the next best thing.

I wouldn't call it boredom, exactly, because I treat job hunting like a hobby. A few months into any job and I'm already eyeing a new challenge — a new job, a new country.

My fear is that it might never stop, this pull toward "something else," to the point where I'm now basically a flight risk on paper. Any HR person looks at my CV and sees the pattern, which makes it harder to land a new job — unfortunately, right after I've already left one and relocated.

Before anyone suggests hobbies — I've tried. I've joined communities, volunteered, picked up more hobbies than I can count. It's fun for a few days or weeks, then the high wears off and I move on to the next thing. I've also started several businesses (fashion, logistics, travel content etc.), and I didn't leave because they failed — I left because I got bored and started chasing the next idea. At this point I'm a jack of all trades, master of none.

Now that the job market is tough, I've decided to start a new business in my home country in geriatric care (currently getting trained). My real fear is whether I can stay in it long enough this time, instead of jumping ship the moment I feel too settled and new ideas start creeping in.

Please advise.

Let's discuss Is this what burnout looks like, or did I lose a part of myself?

Everyone around me is getting married, buying cars, chasing promotions, building families... and I'm just... existing.

I feel like I've aged out of love itself.

The weirdest part? I'm currently talking to a woman around my age. She's attractive, has a good job, takes care of herself, and even seems interested in me.

A year ago, I'd have been excited.

Today? Nothing.

No butterflies. No urge to text first. No excitement when she replies. No desire to chase or make things work. I don't even miss her when we don't talk. And honestly, it's not just her it's every woman.

Before anyone asks, yes, I had a painful breakup last year.

I don't sit around crying over it anymore, and I don't think about it every day. But it's like that breakup took something from me that never came back.

The same thing has happened with my career.

I have a decent IT job, I'm well qualified, but I have zero ambition left. I don't feel like switching jobs, preparing for interviews, negotiating salary, or climbing the ladder anymore.

I used to run every morning. I stopped.

I wanted to buy a vehicle for years. I finally have enough savings to afford one... but I can't even bring myself to visit a showroom.

Meanwhile, my friends are buying Triumph bikes, Volkswagens, getting married, and moving ahead with life.

I'm just watching.

Work isn't helping either. My workplace is stressful, and some coworkers seem determined to make my life harder for no reason.

A couple of months ago I had some pretty dark thoughts. Those thoughts have mostly gone now, but what replaced them isn't happiness.

It's just... emptiness.

I'm also naturally shy and anxious, so I already struggled with rejection before. Now it feels like I've stopped caring altogether.

Has anyone else gone through something like this after turning 30 or after a bad breakup?

Is this burnout? Depression? A delayed reacction to heartbreak? Or is this just what adulthood feels like?

I'd genuinely like to hear from people who have been in this place.

What pulled you out of it or did it eventually pass on its own?

Need Advice 27F. I feel like I'm doing everything "right," but I still don't feel happy.

I'm 27F, and lately it feels like one day is just passing after another.

I've been single for about three years. I'm in therapy. I try to stay healthy, make to-do lists, set goals, keep myself productive, travel, spend time with friends... basically all the things people tell you to do to build a good life.

But I still feel... empty.

Sometimes I feel like I'm faking being okay. Even when I'm with friends, I'm making people laugh, joining conversations, doing everything I'm "supposed" to do, but inside I don't actually feel present. I spend a lot of time at home, and even when I do go out or travel, it feels like I'm just distracting myself. The trip ends, and I come back to the same feeling.

People always say, "You have to learn to be happy by yourself before being with someone." I genuinely want that to be true. I've been trying. But how do you actually feel it? Because following the playbook hasn't worked for me.

The last time I remember feeling genuinely excited about life was last year when I was talking to a guy I really liked. I thought he could be "the one." It didn't work out, and later I realized he wasn't as genuine as I believed. Looking back, I don't think he made me happy—I think I was happy because I felt connected to someone.

If I'm being completely honest, I don't even remember the last time I felt consistently content. Maybe I was 15 or 16. Since college and then working life started, everything has felt like checking boxes.

I've also been off Instagram for more than a year because it wasn't good for my mental health. I still use Reddit, YouTube, and Twitter, but I don't miss Instagram much. Sometimes I think if I went back and started posting stories again, people would message me. But then I think... would they actually care, or are they just reacting because I'm visible? That thought makes me not want to go back.

Another thing that's been on my mind is relationships. My parents aren't forcing me to get married tomorrow, but it's obviously a conversation now that I'm 27. And honestly, I do want a partner someday. I don't want to spend my whole life doing everything alone.

At the same time, the idea of eventually ending up in an arranged marriage scares me. What if I don't find someone on my own? What if I have to marry someone I barely know? What if it doesn't work out? My brain keeps jumping years ahead instead of letting me live today.

I know I'm overthinking. My brain has about 95 tabs open all the time.

I guess I'm just wondering...

Is this what adult life feels like? Is this a normal phase in your late 20s? Has anyone felt this constant emptiness even while doing everything "right"? And if you did, what actually helped—not just temporarily, but in a way that made life feel meaningful again?

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've been through something similar.

Need Advice I feel lifeless, there’s no movement in my life

I’m 24, nearly 25. Still unemployed despite sending my resumes a ton of times.

I don’t exactly know how to let this out so I’m just gonna say things

I’m not sure how much a job would improve my life but at least that could give me a routine.

I want to experience romance. I’m a gay male, having difficulty with relationships. I want to know what it’s like to kiss someone, to love someone.

Being unemployed, it has its ups and downs but I can’t seem to see my future as of now. And time is unforgiving.

I don’t have any clubs joined, I only go for a jog and sometimes workout here at home. My friends are all working, some moved abroad. Most of the friends I have here aren’t exactly my go-to’s.

I don’t wanna be depressed, I wanna know what love feels like, being excited to see someone and many things. But I don’t wanna dive into that yet if I don’t have money of my own.

Are there people like me? I feel like I’m the only one, I feel lonely.
