After I watched it, I was kinda just confused by all the 10/10s. Like, it's a great family movie, cute moments, some good acting, but better than Interstellar? Movie of the year? More than a 7/10??? I just don't get it.

The plot was basic hollywood sci-fi adventure with the silly alien sidekick and quirky protagonist, all the dialogue felt extremely scripted and milennial-esque, the characters were all kinda one-note. I understand why it's so loved especially by casual watchers, but it just baffles me on how the critics are on the same boat.

Don't get me wrong, it had a lot of great aspects too, but I can't be the only one who was severely underwhelmed, right??????

I would not mind if Hollywood were dethroned internationally though. Perhaps it already has been. I live in the US and I already kinda ignore it.

I feel like people forget how truly great of a director Taika Waititi is. Jojo Rabbit and Hunt for The Wilderpeople are genuinely some of my favorite films of all time. What We Do In The Shadows was also incredible, and Thor Ragnorok was one of the best marvel movies at it's release (and at least the best Thor movie). After Love and Thunder it's like he fell off a cliff in terms of writing quality and directing style. What happened? The visual style in Jojo and HFTWP is genuinely amazing and the writing even more so. It seems strange for someone with such promise to fall off so hard.

Sam Worthington, imo, has never been god-awful or mind-blowing in anything he's done. Whenever he shows up I've never thought "Oh, god no.." or "Hell yeah!", it's always just "Oh, alright."

I know it wasn't an accurate adaptation of the book but it was still watchable and entertaining film. Some stories deserve to be judged on their own and this is one of them.

Such a thrilling experience. It took a while to get into the interesting stuff but the whole getting into parts were also really good. The bridge scene my god. Any other Freidkin movies to watch ?? Edit : 1977 not 1978

Recently, The Sheep Detectives (2026)

I absolutely love the film. The cinematography was absolutely gorgeous and the characters are all amazing! I really love Travis’s monologue during the 2nd booth scene. Only problem I have with this film was that I didn’t really get emotional 🥲 Anyone else didn’t get emotional or it’s just me?

I was blown away, Ethan Hawke was on fire for every second and Julie Delpy was ethereal in her beauty. The love shown on screen felt deeper and truer than anything I have ever seen in my life. Something as simple as watching strangers having conservations, yet filled with the truest emotions imaginable. I know this is a hugely popular film, but I’m curious what y’all think about it? Did anyone here see it in theaters, what was the reception like when it came out? And should I wait 9 years to watch the sequels, I feel like at least 6 months would be warranted rather than jumping right on it tonight.
