Timothee was best lead actor in 2024

There was a thread recently about a film that men hate, but women love, and this film was pretty top, and I thought, what's actually so polarizing about this, and gave it a try (I like Winona Ryder & found the costumes pretty)

Now coming to the film, I may not have loved it, but I enjoyed this film very much, felt like Mean Girls, but more dark

The costumes were pretty to look at, and everyone looked so pretty, especially Winona Ryder, but I didn't like the third act as much as I did the first two acts. There were no elements that made this film polarizing, as films like maybe Gone Girl or Promising Young Woman (Again, those films are fine, nothing problematic, but there might few elements that could make them polarizing)

Phenomenal movie, but I don’t think it deserves the same average as something like The Dark Knight or Schindler’s List. The average keeps going higher and higher every year, to the point where I wouldn’t be surprised if this will become THE highest rated of all time in a matter of years with how more and more people log it and rate it.

After I watched it, I was kinda just confused by all the 10/10s. Like, it's a great family movie, cute moments, some good acting, but better than Interstellar? Movie of the year? More than a 7/10??? I just don't get it.

The plot was basic hollywood sci-fi adventure with the silly alien sidekick and quirky protagonist, all the dialogue felt extremely scripted and milennial-esque, the characters were all kinda one-note. I understand why it's so loved especially by casual watchers, but it just baffles me on how the critics are on the same boat.

Don't get me wrong, it had a lot of great aspects too, but I can't be the only one who was severely underwhelmed, right??????

My Evil Dead Burn review -

One thing I’ve learned on this Evil Dead journey is that Evil Dead doesn’t have a very strong sense of self. All of these movies contain the very basic ingredients of the series and then just turn way too heavily into a circle jerk for whatever new director is given the reins, losing sight of the evolution that the Evil Dead universe deserves. Weird part is that Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Lee Cronin are all still involved so you’d think they’d work together to develop better ideas than that weak ass dagger that was barely used.

All that being said, this one is at least put together well - the acting is good (Erroll Shand please stand up!), the camera work is the best of the whole series, and grandma is hilarious. It seems to take itself more seriously in a refreshing way. The issue is that the story is the weakest and offers very little excitement for Evil Dead itself. It’s gotta be the least scary and gory, and in very un-Evil-Dead-like fashion, the opening and closing scenes were weak as hell (heh). The final sequence features some really disappointing CGI and a better landing like the last two have might’ve been the icing that this cake needed. 

Overall, Evil Dead Burn is solid but doesn’t offer any unfamiliar excitement for the fans of the series. Maybe Francis Galluppi will be able to elevate it to the level it deserves in 2028 with Evil Dead Wrath, but I’m not really holding my breath.

I know it wasn't an accurate adaptation of the book but it was still watchable and entertaining film. Some stories deserve to be judged on their own and this is one of them.

Just watch Troy after watching the Odyssey and then being cousins was silly, and it’s kinda unfortunate that we haven’t gotten an Iliad adaptation since 2004 (in film) but I hope once we do we don’t that part of the their story

Frankly I didn't care for it. I loved the look and sound of the film. I tend to love the type of music Tarantino puts in his soundtracks and these 60s bops are no different. I love how Los Angeles is filmed as well. Just some great shots of a metropolitan summer which I'm a sucker for. But they lack just a bit of substance. A movie just about people going about their day can work, but Tarantino lacks a point of view to what's being shot. The characters guiding us through these scenes aren't very compelling, neither are the situations they find themselves in and the ultimate twist pay-off wasn't interesting to me (even though flame throwers are indeed cool). The result is a movie that lacks momentum. Margot Robbie does great with what little she has, but the film gives us no insight to her or Brad Pitt's characters. Which is interesting given that the movie is set up as this love letter to a major diverging point in Hollywood. But nothing is said about this moment in time other than "What if, like, things didn't happen that way". Yeah, bitch, what about it? Leo did good in his performance as a bratty Hollywood type who takes his job seriously, though. He had a great sense of humor and prima donna-ness which helped pull me through the first half of the movie. Also this movie gave us Margot Robbie and featured one of my favorite historic weirdos Squeaky Fromme. So there's that!

This is my first year doing it. It's so exciting and also, as I see it, an amazing way to introduce many people to films and directors that are different from what they're used to.

I believe there should exist a 53rd category, though. A category for that movie you've been painfully ruling out time and time again in various categories and that, in the end and to your great regret, ends up being left out. House (1977) by Ôbayashi was that one for me.

I mean, I will watch it asap tbh. But it truly deserved to be there.

Tbh liked it a lot, basically shows the main beats of his backstory from Batman TAS while teasing the big horror aspects, like Clayface’s true form that was confirmed already.

(The first Star Trek wasn’t that bad tho)

This is hands down the biggest turnaround of a movie I’ve ever seen in my life!!I saw it the the theater when it came out and did not like it at all.Trash.Im definitely the type that will give a movie a 2nd chance but it was so bad the first time I didn’t think there was any way it could redeem itself so I never watched it again.Then I heard about the ultimate cut and was still skeptical.Until now.Maybe this is a unpopular opinion but I loved this movie!!This cut literally took it from a 3 to an 8.5 or higher depending on future watches.Its dark.Its gritty.People actually die which makes it so much more realistic given the setting.All I could think of when it ended was how great would it have been to get a R rated standalone Batman movie in this universe.If you are a fan of superhero movies and only watched the theatrical version….do yourself a favor and check out the ultimate cut.
