Just watch Troy after watching the Odyssey and then being cousins was silly, and it’s kinda unfortunate that we haven’t gotten an Iliad adaptation since 2004 (in film) but I hope once we do we don’t that part of the their story

In my opinion the most neglected film makers are the ones who work on documentaries in various capacities. So I was wondering who and what documentary film you would nominated for these various categories.

I have a good understanding of how people rate fictional movies, but I’ve never really understood how people rate documentaries/ethnographies. How do you rate something that’s, ideally, a straightforward depiction of real life?

What (to you) distinguishes an “amazing documentary” from a “great documentary” from an “okay documentary”?

I really liked The Monkey Man, so hope Dev Patel delivers again.

Poor Things is my fav film of this century, so yorgos lanthimos, I’ll be seated whatever he makes next.

Watched it today and it was fantastic. Currently a 9/10 for me.

The movie looks absolutely incredible. I watched it in 4K and its crazy to think this came out in the 50s. Definitely fits the label of epic. Despite the long runtime, the movie is almost always engaging. Judah is a really interesting character and Charles Heston's performance is great. Really compelling story. The chariot race is easily the major highlight. Just an amazing scene. I know some people say they wish the film ended with the chariot race, but I did really like the stuff with Jesus and Judah's family.

My only real complaints are that the romance between Judah and Esther didn't really feel that necessary, or at least could have been trimmed down from the runtime. Also the blackface is rough.

Overall just a really beautiful and engaging epic. I can see this bumping up to a 10/10 after some more reflection. What are your thoughts on the movie?

Frankly I didn't care for it. I loved the look and sound of the film. I tend to love the type of music Tarantino puts in his soundtracks and these 60s bops are no different. I love how Los Angeles is filmed as well. Just some great shots of a metropolitan summer which I'm a sucker for. But they lack just a bit of substance. A movie just about people going about their day can work, but Tarantino lacks a point of view to what's being shot. The characters guiding us through these scenes aren't very compelling, neither are the situations they find themselves in and the ultimate twist pay-off wasn't interesting to me (even though flame throwers are indeed cool). The result is a movie that lacks momentum. Margot Robbie does great with what little she has, but the film gives us no insight to her or Brad Pitt's characters. Which is interesting given that the movie is set up as this love letter to a major diverging point in Hollywood. But nothing is said about this moment in time other than "What if, like, things didn't happen that way". Yeah, bitch, what about it? Leo did good in his performance as a bratty Hollywood type who takes his job seriously, though. He had a great sense of humor and prima donna-ness which helped pull me through the first half of the movie. Also this movie gave us Margot Robbie and featured one of my favorite historic weirdos Squeaky Fromme. So there's that!

We finally have a new 4.5-rated movie since Parasite and it only took 7 years.

I’m a Ray Liotta fan and have been going through his entire filmography but hit a real roadblock with the 1981 TV film Crazy Times. I personally reached out to Warner Bros. Licensing, and they officially confirmed that the master tape for this film is safe in their vault.

The film also features early performances by David Caruso, Michael Paré, and Amy Madigan. However, corporate policy prevents the studio from releasing copies to individuals, so an official archival release is our only way to see it!

Change.org notes that petitions reaching 1,000 supporters are 5x more likely to get more attention and that can help reach a studio decision maker's attention. I created a petition to show Warner Archive that there is a real audience ready to buy or stream this piece of TV history and this coming of age story set in the 1950’s.

Phenomenal movie, but I don’t think it deserves the same average as something like The Dark Knight or Schindler’s List. The average keeps going higher and higher every year, to the point where I wouldn’t be surprised if this will become THE highest rated of all time in a matter of years with how more and more people log it and rate it.

For me they would have to be 4 stars for me to own on Blu-Ray and 4.5-5 stars for me to own on 4K.

What about the rest of you? Do you just like owning anything on a disk even if its a "bad" movie you happen to like? Or do you just own movies on a disk that you consider one of your favorite movies?
