Survey: queer-friendly wedding vendors

Hey kids! Do you gets anxiety before meeting with a potential vendor because you're not sure how they'll react to you? Ever noticed how lists of LGBT-friendly wedding vendors kind of suck?

We're attempting to harness the power of reddit to start compiling a massive user-generated list of wedding vendors ranked by their queer-friendliness. Couples, individuals, and vendors can fill out this simple form and anyone will be able to access the list and sort it by type of vendor, rating, location, etc.

We're testing it out first here, and then we'll take it out further. Let me know if you have any comments!

Here is the survey form: http://goo.gl/forms/Xa4Ga5VOQk

And here is the public database: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tMOqpzroAZg8cJpSQ7YTDPEPchi5VA_1i27k9vRBDlg/edit?usp=sharing Use the tops of the columns to sort by type of vendor, location (city, state/province, or country), rating, etc. You can also search for a term (like city name, vendor name, etc)

Thanks for your help!!

DIY'd my (gay) letterpressed invite suite and I'm obsessed

Hi fellow gays! I got married last month and I'm still basking in the glow of it all!! In doing some reflection, I wanted to share my proudest and favorite DIY- my invitation suite. Going into the process, I was ready to spend a pretty penny on my invitations- but I didn't feel like I could find a designer who could really capture my vision (also why are so many invitations just straight up AI these days). Anyways, that was partially my fault because I definitely didn't realize the timeline for stationery design (4+ months for a suite this large) but it was a happy accident because I had so much fun designing this. At this point in my post-wedding come-down I'm mostly sad I'll never get to do this again haha

Happy to answer any questions here or via DM- but I'll leave with this: these stationery designers are not scamming you with their prices. Printing costs + design time (80+ hours) are not cheap and these artists have to eat! Obviously, there are some in demand designers who can charge more based on their talent/rep- but smaller designers really are charging fair prices IMO. That said, Minted, Zola and the Knot definitely are scamming you with their prices- ESPECIALLY for anything letterpressed.

anyway- just wanted to brag on myself a little haha- happy planning!!

Advice What did you say when you proposed back after already saying yes?

My fiancee proposed to me in February (and I obviously said yes). She has mentioned wanting an engagement ring of her own, and I think she would love having her own proposal moment rather than me just handing her the ring.

I’m planning to “propose back” in a couple of weeks, but I’ve realized I have absolutely no idea what I’m supposed to say when I already know the answer to “Will you marry me?”

Obviously I want to tell her I love her and I can't wait to marry her, but how do I actually end the speech? Should I still ask the classic "Will you marry me?" or should I say something that acknowledges the fact that we're already engaged?

To all the fellow second proposers: What did you say when you got down on one knee?

Maryland/DMV area vendors

Hi y’all! Thank you collectively for being such a wonderful community to lurk in over the years for the queer joy of wedding photos, and for being a great resource and source of reassurance for many complicated family-related feelings recently as my partner and I start to plan our big gay wedding.

I know the sub has links to general LGBT vendor resources but many of them seem to be a little older, sparse on the recommendations, or non-specific about the vendor’s experience working with the community. So, I’m posting in hopes of hearing directly from the folks here!

If you’ve gotten married in the DMV area in the past few years or if you are a vendor, I’d love recommendations for day-of coordinators, photographers, bakers, florists, wedding dress stores/boutiques, and DJs. Extra points if they are LGBTQ owned and/or if they’ve worked with nonbinary people before. Our wedding will be ~120-150 people in spring 2028, about 30 minutes outside Baltimore city.

Thanks again!

Advice Thoughts on name changes

Hi everyone, my fiancé and I are doing our legal ceremony in a few months and I’m still on the fence about if I want to change my last/family name when we get married.

On the one hand, I like my name as it is, but on the other hand my family shared the same last name growing up, and so I guess I feel some sort of attachment to that tradition.

The options I’d be considering are 1. hyphenating my last name with my partner’s name or 2. putting our names together into a new name or 3. just keeping my name as is.

I’d love to hear about what other people have done and how it felt to them. Or what other people are debating between and how you’re thinking about it. Or even logistical consequences of changing/not changing your last name.

Any thoughts I’m sure will help me sort out how I’m feeling. Thanks 😊

Photos Married the love of my life last year in drag

Just came across this sub and I love it so much. I'm non-binary & bisexual and a drag performer and he's a pansexual cis man who is a pro wrestler (so basically we both do drag if you think about it.) I also made my own wedding dress!

This was at SF City Hall, which was a big deal for me since that's where Harvey Milk used to work, and I think where the first LGBT weddings were held in San Francisco. We had a beautiful ceremony with chosen family and a queer photographer as well! Then we ate delicious Chinese food and called it a day. Coincidentally on September 11 since that was the better timing of the month. #neverforget

Wedding Logistics

Hey everyone! I was hoping to get insight or suggestions for those who have seen or been in this situation. For folks (m/f/nb doesn’t matter) who got married but do not have parents for any reason to walk them down to aisle or for the “first dances”, but your partner does, what did you do? Open to any and all suggestions. I don’t want to stick out like a sore thumb, but I also don’t want to force anything or put anyone in a weird situation.

Any and all ideas welcome!

A few days before our dream wedding, my partner was a little worried about not looking good in the wedding photos. After I showed them a few pictures from this subreddit of queer people getting married, that fear vanished very quickly! Thanks! Here is our contribution.

Advice Subtle LGTB+ touches in wedding stationery?

Hi everyone! 👋 I'm getting married next year to the woman of my dreams, and we're currently in the middle of all the preparations. As a lesbian couple, we'd love to include some kind of LGTB+ nod in our wedding, but we're a bit worried about it feeling too 'thematic' or over-the-top. We’re really aiming for something subtle and elegant. We’ve actually found some invitations that we absolutely love because they integrate the pride flag colors in a very minimalist way, but we’re still debating on whether to go for it. Have any of you incorporated these kinds of touches into your wedding or stationery? I’d love to hear your experiences!

Update! We finally went ahead and bought them, we are so in love with how they turned out! (Sorry for the slightly lower image quality, had to downscale them a bit!)

Now we're stuck trying to figure out whether to send them digitally or print them. We're leaning towards saving paper, but what do you all think? Digital vs. printed?

We are looking for someone who can help us plan as we secure the resort, room blocks and plan the celebration. Ideally someone who is queer or works with queer couples! Taking all recs! Thank you!

Fashion Where to find unique suits

Hi! I’m looking for some help with suit recommendations, my fiancé (26M) and I (24M) recently got engaged!! I’m obviously over the moon and so excited but kind of dreading figuring out what to wear! I’m pretty feminine leaning but typically dress kind of androgynous. My wardrobe is probably 50% “men’s clothes” and 50% “women’s clothes”. I haven’t found anything that I’m super in love with in terms of outfit ideas. I know I want to wear a suit of some sort but I don’t want anything too masculine or boring. I’m also not someone who dresses over the top or extravagant for the most part. I’ve included some inspo pics of different shapes, textures, and fabrics I like. If anyone has any recommendations as to where I can find something I’d be very appreciative! Thanks!

Advice Non-traditional wedding

Me and my girlfriend are in the process in planning our wedding and i would love some advice or ideas!🫶🏻

We will have a small wedding with 16 people (mainly family plus some friends), its gonna be in courthouse and afterwards we will have a private restaurant lunch - no evening party.

We are thinking about what we want to incorporate in our wedding and i dont know - we dont want the traditional plate smashing or feeding each other soup but we would like something there. Also our families never officially met so idk how that’s gonna go lol.

Any advice or inspiration is appreciated ❤️

Advice Elopement advice/tips?

My partner (he/him) and I (they/them) are eloping later this year. We plan to have a small ceremony (less than 10 people, including us) in a public park with a friend officiating! We plan to keep this mostly under wraps as we want to have a “proper” wedding in the future and want it to be a special experience for our families.

What are some things we should know ahead of time or keep in mind, if anything? TYIA :)

Ceremonies 14 Years Ago I Married a Baddie in a Bar

Forgive the photos, they were taken 14 years ago by non-professionals.

We’ve been together 28 years, and married 14. We had an extremely down and dirty wedding. It was organized in ~2 weeks, in the bar where my spouse worked at the time. The dress was bought as a surprise by their boss, and the flowers put together by a florist friend who procured some of the greenery from a nearby yard. (It was growing through the fence. It wasn’t illegal. Probably.) We were married by the freshly 18 y/o barback, and had a piñata filled with airplane bottles of booze which we gave out as party favors.

The celebration was slap-dash, but fun, and I don’t get to brag about it much. My family is still salty about us essentially eloping. (My spouse was fleeing both a toxic family and Mormonism, and I was pretty anti-formal-marriage at the time.)

Together we’ve weathered loss of family, deaths of family, friends and pets, and major medical upheavals. And I still feel so damn lucky to get to be with my favorite person.
