I'm a 28F from a tier-3 engineering college, and I've been working as a software engineer for the last 5 years. I currently earn around 18 LPA, so objectively I know I'm doing okay.

But I often feel like I'm lagging behind when I'm around people from IITs or people who are exceptionally smart.

It's not even about coding or academics. For example, my ex was from an IIT. Through him, I learned things I didn't even know existed, like writing resumes in LaTeX. The way he approached problems, learned new things, and thought about everyday topics felt very different from mine.

It's not just career-related either. Even the books, movies, TV series, or random topics they discuss often make me realize I've never even heard of them.

Sometimes it makes me wonder whether I'm simply not intelligent enough, or whether I just didn't work hard enough at the right time in life.

The confusing part is that when I interact with friends from backgrounds similar to mine, our way of thinking and approaching things feels much more alike. So I keep wondering if this difference is because of the environment these people grow up and study in, or if I'm just romanticizing IIT and putting it on a pedestal.

For those of you who've studied at IITs or have worked closely with IITians:

Is there really a different culture or atmosphere that shapes the way people think?

Or is this just confirmation bias because I've met a few impressive people?

If you've felt behind intellectually, how did you bridge that gap?

I'm genuinely open to criticism if you think I'm looking at this the wrong way. I just want to understand whether this feeling is real or mostly in my head.

I'm a recent Computer Science graduate from India, and honestly, I'm feeling quite lost right now.

I graduated without getting placed, and over the past few months I've realized that my technical skills aren't strong enough to confidently crack software interviews. I know this is something I need to improve, but I'm unsure whether I should continue investing months into development or focus on a different path.

Recently, I've also started preparing for government exams (SSC and similar exams). but lately I've been losing confidence in that path as well due to the uncertainty surrounding government recruitment. Now I'm unsure where to invest my time.

A few questions for people who've been in a similar situation:

1. If you graduated without strong technical skills, how did you eventually get your first job?
2. Is the IT market really improving for freshers, or is it still as difficult as it seems?
3. If you had to start from scratch today, what would you prioritize?
4. Has anyone here switched from IT preparation to government exams (or vice versa)? Was it worth it?

I'm not looking for sympathy just honest opinions from people who've experienced this or have seen others go through it.

I am a fresher who recently joined a product based company. The company is nice, the environment is good and the work is relaxed and the wlb is very good.

I had another offer from South Indian Bank, which initially was said to be PO in sales. But they contacted me recently after I rejected that and told me that posting in IT is assured and if performance is good , within 3-4 years I would get the IT tag and will be permanently in IT. My friend who joined there told me that they have switched mainly to in house development and he works on Java, springboot, oracle and some microservice based tasks. Another friend is in the API team and mainly work with esql.

I am now confused on what to do. My plan initially was to stay at my current job for some time and understand whether development job was for me. Now I am not sure, and with the state of the market right now, I am not sure whether I can switch successfully to a better company later for salary hikes and all. But if I can, then Non bank IT can lead me to a better salary later.

Salary is not the only matter - WLB and technical growth also is.

Can anyone give me some insights into this?

What can I expect in SIB?

What will my technical growth be like?

Is switching to corporate IT possible later?

Even though I like the relaxed nature of my current company , It won't stay that way right - especially if I switch and all. So should I stop going after comfort and take the bank IT job?

Any insight would help.

This iiit tag will NOT help in off campus placement (non core) , makes it Difficult to land on a job after graduation.

So my only option will be to do GATE, and if that's the end goal, I can prepare for it from studying in any tier 3 College with half the Fees.

Hello seniors . I am currently preparing for JEE because I don not have any specific interests as such and since engg is a versatile career I want to figure it out during my btech I have a few questions abt engg if u could kindly answer:

Since everyone is now blindly choosing CSE nowadays it has become supersaturated also the recent layoffs have me worried. I as a student never had any good interest towards computers and coding but electronics mechatronics civil etc interest me . So how is the scope for these branches in India? I want to work here instead of being SDE/ coder etc.

Also most engineers are settled in places like Bangalore, Gurugram etc. but I do not want to live in these Tier 1 cities, rather would live a quiet life in Tier 2/3. Is that possible?

How viable is it nowadays to get a J1/green card visa after doing Btech? is it only possible at FAANG? Also Im okay with having PR of other countries like canada, aus or germany etc so how it is possible through btech?

Also what is a actually lasting career within scope of engg like a stream whose value grows with age, allows u to work upto 50-60 age etc. and which have job security......

I know in the comments most ppl would just tell me to study work hard but I need to know what I am working towards and gain clarity yk.......

I’m in a unique situation and would really appreciate some guidance from anyone who has experienced this or knows PW’s admission process.
I passed Class 12 in 2025.
I’m planning to join PW Vidyapeeth’s offline 2-year NEET classroom program (11th + 12th) targeting NEET 2028.
The admissions team confirmed that I can join this 2-year batch.
I also plan to appear for the PWSAT to get a scholarship.
My question is:
Since I’ll be studying the 11th + 12th course from the beginning, can I take the PWSAT based on the Class 10 syllabus instead of the dropper/Class 12 syllabus? Has anyone who already passed Class 12 been allowed to do this?
I’m looking for answers from people who have actually taken admission or confirmed this with PW. Please avoid guesses.
