Looking for a Contractor or a Doctor? Looking for someplace to find that thing locally you are looking for? This is where you ask those questions!

We see a lot of recommendation posts here on r/Hillsboro. In an effort to keep the main page of r/Hillsboro free from all of that we are collecting it all here.

Here is where you ask for Contractor recommendations. Here is where you ask which Dr is cool and you want to share that with others in Hillsboro. Need to ask which store has what you are looking for? Ask it here.

You can also offer recommendations. Great places to eat, contractors or other professionals you had a good experience with.

Some posts asking where to eat or drink will be allowed in the main page. However, all other posts seeking recommendations on where to go to get the best deal on that thing you need, who to go to work for, who to hire to fix your car, fix you or your kids body go here.

Recommendation posts that do not meet these guidelines and are not posted in this thread will be removed.

Shute park concerts; bring chairs?

I was planning on going to the Shute park concert this Friday. Do people bring lawn chairs? Or is it mostly standing room?

Are there concessions? Can you bring your own food/drinks?

How’s parking?

Any other insights would be helpful too! Thanks!

Fantastic Dirt Piles

I’m definitely NOT suggesting it but. If the e-bikes kids wanted to get off the roads and try out their bikes on some awesome dirt piles…there might be some great places to try that near Imlay Elem, near Pine St and 54th.

Anyone lose a small white drone in Old Orenco?

Neighborhood I walk around had a small drone that was laying the the front yard. I saw this walking around last week and wondered why the owner left it there. I walked by there again to day and there is a printed page on their tree saying they found someone's drone, please contact them to get it back.

If you did lose it, it is in the Old Orenco area. Let me know and I can get you details.

Lost Black Cat at 60th and Baseline

Hello - our indoor cat got out Wednesday (6/15) morning. Yowie is about six years old, black domestic shorthair with small white hairs on his chest. He is microchipped and neutered but did not have a collar.

He is extremely skittish so we don’t believe he would cross Baseline. We think he is between 60th and 58th, likely hiding. Please let me know here if you see him, or contact All About Cats at 503-648-2800. We are offering a $50 reward if found.

Thanks so much for looking out.

Traffic Two people walked across the middle of Baseline St. & 60th

Close call on Baseline St and 60th around 6:10 p.m. tonight. Two people (one walking a dog) stepped and waked directly in front of oncoming traffic. I saw them (thankfully the sun wasn't in my eyes or anything) managed to stop in time and honked, only for the man to yell at me, claiming they were in a crosswalk.

They were in the middle of the street with no signs, lights, or painted lines whatsoever. It's pure imagination that it was a pedestrian protected crosswalk.

I'm glad everyone was safe, no one got hurt (or worse killed). If anyone knows anything about it I'd be grateful.

** If anyone is curious what the street looks like a maps app should be able to show you a street view of the area.

Update the county said that per state law every intersection is a crosswalk. I asked them why there were no signs to let drivers know there was a crosswalk up ahead (like there are in lots of other places) or painted crosswalk lines and they said they didn't know why.

The way that the county has it set up seems pretty dangerous to me. Drivers wouldn't really know that a crosswalk is up ahead b/c there are no signs to say there is. The only way a driver would know is if they paid attention to the sidewalk to see how it was cut out. If drivers did that they'd be taking their primary focus off of the road (which you probably shouldn't do while driving) and might not be able to slow/stop in time.

I don't think it's an IF something happens, but WHEN.

Bottom line is that the county should do a better job to make things safe for everyone.

Can't post a picture but if you live or walk the Waterhouse trail by Walker Road . There's a raccoon actively dying, violently twitching and foaming at the mouth. Animal control has been called! There's a nice man standing besides it until someone shows up BUT please be careful!

School info

We recently moved to Hillsboro from Iowa and have sticker shock when looking at private schools here. We’re not opposed to public, we’ve just always gone private. Any insight on the following schools would be much appreciated: Rosedale, South Meadows, and Hillsboro High. I’ll have a rising 8th grader and 3rd grader. I’m concerned about class sizes, bullying, and opportunities for above grade level classes/opportunities as necessary. Also any insight on alternative options that won’t cost me $20k/year to send 2 kids to school would be appreciated as well!

Is anyone planning to go? I have a conflict. I wonder why the meeting isn’t scheduled for a time when more folks might be able to attend? Agenda isn’t described either.

Injured bird

Does anyone know of a wildlife place I can take an injured swallow? It hit my window and still isn’t flying hours later… our cars valves are going and I have an exhaust leak so I do not think I can drive to dove Lewis with my baby and risk breaking down. I am so scared for this birdie…

Looking for a former Korean food cart at the Hillsboro Station food pods (2024)

Does anyone remember the name or current location of a specific Korean food cart that was at the Hillsboro Station food pods back in 2024?

It was located toward the back of the pod and had a great selection of kimbap, including many vegetarian options. I remember frequenting it toward the end of 2024, but it seemed to disappear in 2025 and was eventually replaced by a different Korean cart.

I’ve been craving their kimbap recently, does anyone know if they moved to a new location or rebranded? Thanks in advance

What restaurant is this?

I was in Hillsboro/Tigard last June and stopped at a great japanese restaurant that I can't find again. I think it was near the world market in Tigard. It was the corner building in a plaza. I got sushi and ramen, they gave us a cucumber salad for free because of the amount we spent. It was a smaller place with booths... Sorry if this isn't too descriptive but I would love any help I can get!

Edit: It's Michi Japan! Thank you for the help, I've been searching for days!

Also - Sorry for not knowing the geography very well. Like I said, I've only visited the one time. 😄

Bush kitten

Hey guys! My partner saw a kitten tonight in the 7-11 on brookwood near the highways dumpster/bush area. Scraggly with a scrunchie face. He left some food and water near where he saw it and will be checking in the morning to see if it ate. Tips or tricks for catching the small one? Its not a safe area for the little to stay in.

Loud bangs/shots tonight

I’m in the tanasbourne area and keep hearing loud bangs or shots that echo. There’s been at least 10 now spaced out. Sometimes one and then a second one right after but other than that doesn’t seem like much of a pattern in timing. Anyone know what’s up? Started around maybe 10:15pm or so?

Breaking News Downtown hillsboro parking garage incident

I was at the parking garage in downtown hillsboro right next to the court house watching the fireworks with some people, when a bunch of kids were playing around. I think it was three girls and two boys. One boy, in all black in a skimask was climbing the outside of the fencing at the top of the garage while the other recorded and egged him on as he hung off it. Then, five minutes later, this same masked kid lit a massive firework in the middle of top the level of the garage right next to families and people. The sparks went everywhere and a man approached them telling them to leave. The kid was blasting the N-word and threatening the man and took the elevator down. Then a couple minutes later, the kids came back, the one in the ski mask threatening to lit more and even closer to people. The cops were calls. I hope that these kids learn their lesson somehow, because this was so dangerous for no literal reason at all. I have pictures of the girls faces but none of the boys.

Please be safe everyone!

Snakes at the Splash Pad

Hi,

Someone brought their snake to the splash pad at hidden creek. Are snakes allowed at parks?

There was a toddler playing the splash pad and the guy let his snake loose to take pictures of it in the splash pad.

This post is mostly venting because I’m sure the owner will say the snake was harmless but there were toddlers at this park. And toddlers are unpredictable.

In case anyone was assaulted with bear mace at pride, the attackers filmed themselves and proudly confessed on camera.

Melissa Janell Berntsen, aka "NicoOregon", along with Tommy Allen, attempted to disrupt Hillsboro Pride this year, including repeatedly spraying attendees with bear spray (with drift affecting a child at a playground as well). If any of the victims wish to press charges, I wanted to raise awareness that the attackers livestreamed themselves doing it, then laughing at and mocking their victims.

Screenshots and video clips in the thread here:

https://bsky.app/profile/src161.bsky.social/post/3mnyf46ucb22c

So if you wish to press charges, it looks like a pretty open-and-shut case. Just wanting to bring this up in case anyone who might know any of the victims is on this sub.

No Chalk Art Festival this year?

I was just doing a search for the La Strada dei Pastelli Chalk Art Festival, to see when it was scheduled for this year, and it turns out TVC has a new executive director and they aren’t going to do it anymore. ☹️
I’m so incredibly bummed. It was such a fun and unique event for art lovers. There’s something about chalk art that’s just so cool, especially getting to witness it being created. I feel like this is a sucky move; I thought it was a fairly popular event, but maybe I’m wrong?
Does anyone know why they canceled it? Or if there are other chalk art festivals in the metro area to check out?

July 4th fireworks

My daughter old enough to stay up a bit later for fireworks now. Does anyone have something family friendly and simple to check out some fireworks? I was thinking going to the Fred Meters parking lot to see the Hops fireworks and then head home for bedtime.
Open to suggestions that don’t involve anything too complicated.

July 4th Hillsboro Hops Game - Parking

Bought tickets for the family to see the Hops game and fireworks for July 4th. Parking passes are sold out.

Is there a section at the stadium that doesn't require a pre-paid parking pass? (ex: pay onsite). Or do I have to find parking somewhere close-by?

What parking do you recommend?
