Discussion Homophobic Harassment at Pet in the City

On July 18, 2026, Pet in the City experienced an incredibly disturbing incident.
Two teenage males entered our store and repeatedly shouted racist and homophobic slurs at one of our customers, creating a hostile and frightening environment for everyone inside. During the incident, they also damaged merchandise and behaved disruptively—including one of them casually chewing on a bully stick while spewing hate. The irony wasn’t lost on us, considering bully sticks are made from bull pizzle.
The police were called, but unfortunately the response did not lead to any meaningful resolution.
We want to be crystal clear: Pet in the City is a safe space for everyone. We welcome people of every race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, and background. Hate, harassment, intimidation, and discrimination have no place in our store and will never be tolerated.
If anyone witnessed this incident or has information that may help identify the individuals involved, please contact us privately.
To our customer who was targeted: we are deeply sorry this happened. You are always welcome here, and we stand with you.

News The company behind I-77 tolls already touted project to shareholders

No wonder politicians in Raleigh are pushing so hard to ram through this toll project. They want their kickbacks from the privately owned toll operator.

We don't want toll lanes at all but if toll lanes are forced on Charlotte, I want the static toll pricing like 540 in Raleigh. Not dynamic pricing where the toll goes up to $30 during rush hour

Discussion IMO Charlotte transportation services are a joke..

I’ve been sitting in a train in heart of downtown for 20 minutes. The train was already 20 minutes late. When the train is operating functionally I can get from I-485 to uptown in 40 ish minutes. Now it takes close to 2 hours. And they expect people to pay for this service? The app just erases trains from the schedule. The conductors don’t make announcements about when and what the delays are. There is clear lack of leadership, organization and strategy at the top of the disfunction.

Discussion Another Day Another Bad Weather Prediction

Yeah yeah I know we don’t have a Doppler radar that canned answer doesn’t make the lack of accurate weather predictions any better.

Also from my understanding Doppler is much more effective at seeing current conditions and near term forecasts not 24+ hour weather trends which are much more of the meteorology art form and had locally predicted weather from this evening through tomorrow and have all been wrong. Annoying for people who work outside.

Recommendation Curious why you would choose CMC (Atrium) vs Presbyterian (Novant) for a real emergency

Luckily my family hasn’t needed either for a true terrifying or life threatening emergency. However, if we did, which one would you choose for the ER and why? Is there a specific injury or illness that would make you go to one vs the other?

Additionally, which pediatric ER is better?

Discussion Any bar that streams esports matches?

This might be a long shot, but is there a bar or any place that streams esports matches (specifically Marvel rivals)? Kinda tired of watching them alone at home and would be good to watch it with people.

Recommendation Puppy wheelchair desensitization

Where can I take my puppy to get him to meet someone in a wheelchair? I'm aware this is an odd question. My old dog was really scared of people in wheelchairs and babies in strollers and would bark/growl/go crazy. He's seen a baby in a stroller on walks, but we haven't come across anyone in a wheelchair.

Discussion Blue Line Light Rail

Those who ride the blue line CATS light rail. What are your thoughts on the delays in service? As someone that rides the rail every day; I'm trying to exercise patience but the excessive delays are weighing on me. I'm blessed that I don't have a job where I need to be in the office at a specific time. I had a chat with a panicked woman who was written up for tardiness at her job, the rail had a significant delay this morning that will make her tardy again.

Traffic CircleJerk Rear-ended on 77, other driver left the scene, 2 hr wait for a trooper, now report doesn't reflect my evidence.

Upvotes

A few weeks ago I got rear-ended heading up 77 in Charlotte. Waited about 2 hours for a state trooper to show up, and the other driver left before they arrived. I have dashcam video and got their plate, but when I finally saw the report, none of that info made it in.

It's been two weeks and the report still hasn't been updated with what I submitted. Trying to figure out my options for getting it amended and whether this is a common experience around here.

Has this happened to anyone else in Charlotte? Hit-and-run reports that don't get updated even with solid evidence?

Charity/Assistance Kitten of Neighbors Outdoor Cat Hurt

In Sugar Creek / Noda area. There’s a litter of outdoor kittens based in my back neighbor’s yard. The calico one showed up with an awful limp in our yard the night before last. We gave her some food, but it wouldn’t get too close.

We got home late last night and she was back hiding underneath my car. We gave her more food and the leg looks worse. I’m seeing so much about the dire situation in rescues and shelters and so It feels a bit hopeless. My husband is right that cannot afford the vet bills/surgeries she would likely require but I CANNOT leave her without help.

Please does anyone know of an animal hospital or organization that will aid in paying for her care? I’m worried that taking her to animal care and control will do more harm than good for her with the extreme overcrowding.

I’ve tried looking for her all morning, but it seems she only comes out at night.

Any tips are appreciated.

Discussion Family visiting Charlotte for the first time.

I have been working here for several months in advance of my family moving here. Wife and teen kids are coming to visit.

Are there any suggestions for “must see” places? I am thinking Mint Museum, Children’s museum and hopefully a beautiful scenic place to visit.

What would the Charlotte natives here suggest as “must do”? BBQ is a given already.

Politics What happened to 107.9 Radio

Upvotes

Look, I don't listen to the radio that much. But 107.9 was always a station I saved. But I got sick of listening to Benson boone for the 1000th time on 106.5 and went to the next station. Since when did 107.9 become Right-wing propaganda? Out of morbid curiosity I've listened to it for the past few days, and it's got opinions usually reserved for AM radio, right on the high FM numbers.

Is there a story there? What's the deal? Do people actually listen to some guy shill about how high gas prices are actually a good thing and nod and agree? It's a tough listen.

Recommendation Looking for entry-level day shift jobs with overtime opportunities

Hey everyone,

I currently work in a factory on the overnight shift (11 PM–7 AM) making $20/hour, but I’m looking to switch to a day shift.

I’m mainly looking for something:

Entry level

Around $17–20/hour

Day shift

Fine with working weekends every now and then

Has the option to pick up overtime

I don’t mind working a lot of hours, I actually prefer having overtime available. I’m just tired of working nights and want to get back on a normal schedule.

What kinds of jobs would you recommend? If you’ve worked somewhere that always has overtime, I’d love to hear about it.

Recommendation Barber rec for a beard trim

Anyone have any recommendations for a barber that is good with beards? I'm new to Charlotte and am looking for one, and it's hard to find reviews for beards specifically. I'm bald as hell and won't be needing a haircut, hah.

Preferably in Uptown or South End as that's within walking distance for me, though I am willing to hear other recommendations too.
