I am a rising freshman at UNCC this year and I am doing the UTOP program. It is not a good experience or beneficial in any way. If anything it’s more of an opportunity for the mentors to put something on their resume.

You don’t get to pick your classes, you get put in the worst dorms on campus(I have found four roaches in my room so far), and they will not listen to your concerns. In fact they will yell at you or delete your messages if voice a complaint.

The study halls(7-9pm) are mandatory, and you’re not allowed to talk. Every Tuesday during universal hour they go over campus resources that you already know about. And there are weekly trips to a tiny walmart that last until 11 pm.

It has been a waste of my time and money, and you will regret attending the program if you do decide to come. Use that money to take a vacation instead.

I know this may sounds like a dumb question but, do you have to buy toliet paper if you live in a suite style dorm on campus? I heard from someone else that you do have to buy your own toliet paper. It feels stupid since you're paying a higher price to live in a suite style compared to traditional housing where you have communal restrooms.

i’m wondering how's hickory hall like for anyone who's previously stayed there. I just want to know any tips, suggestions, pros, cons, and if anyone has any pictures of what it looked like. Today I noticed my pell grant, TAG, and NC Next all dropped by certain amounts, I contacted niner central and they said it was because I'm only registered for 9 undergraduate credit hours therefore only eligible for 75% of grants, but I'm taking 2 early entry/double count graduate courses(6 credit hours). Do these not qualify for aid even though they're still counting towards my bachelors?

I have already filled out petitions for both courses to be double counted and they are showing up in degree works as counting towards my B.S.

Hi! Me again. My name is Sammi and recently I’ve been admitted to attend UNC Charlotte. Despite everything else being pretty easy, I’m a trans woman. on top of that, I’ve recently just started the process of getting estrogen medicatio. With all that said, my assigned roommate is currently uncomfortable rooming with me for the year (cause I’m a girl :3).

I’ve already tried reaching out to housing, but there was no avaiabilty for a room reassignment. And as a first year, I unfortunately have no choice but to stay on campus.

Starting at uncc fall 2026 for business, I originally wanted to go to unc chapel hill but got deferred. Is it difficult to transfer or is it just gpa based and if so what average gpa would be required? Has anyone gone through this process that could help? Thanks.

I'm a freshman going in as undecided engineering, but also have a interest in chemestry and would like to explore that as well. I currently have 13 creditss (following the giudlines provided at the advising virtual session) so i feel like I could fit in chemestry. When I emailed the advisers however they recommended not to take chemistry. I'm confused on whether I'm allowed to/should take chemistry as a engineering major and if I need to do something or maybe wait till next semester or something.

Hi, so I’m taking a year off university and plan to attend central piedmont college so I’m not too behind when I go back. The only issues right now is that I don’t have housing.

If anyone can recommend furnished student housing under $1000/month that would be great. Even better if it’s a 6month lease but it’s not required(I’m not open to subleasing though). Naturally I’m open to roommates as that will bring the cost down.

I honestly want to know if I'm the only one dealing with this, because my experience at The Drake has been awful.

This place is advertised as student housing, but from what I've seen, it doesn't seem like being a student is actually a requirement. There's a father living on the fifth floor who, as far as I can tell, doesn't attend UNC Charlotte, and it often sounds like there are other kids staying there too. If you live underneath that apartment, good luck getting any sleep or studying in peace. Finals week? Forget it. Trying to cram for an exam? Don't expect a quiet environment.

What's even more frustrating is the response from management and security. I called the Excalibur Security Team about the constant noise, and during the call they literally hung up on me after telling me, "Call the cops if it's that serious." I've never had security dismiss a resident like that before. As someone with PTSD, having my concerns brushed off like that only made an already stressful situation worse.

Property management hasn't been much better. It feels like the priority is filling units and collecting rent instead of making sure students actually have a safe and quiet place to live. They don't seem interested in enforcing the rules or addressing repeated complaints.

The roommate situation is another issue. You have no idea who you'll end up living with, and in my experience it can feel like they throw you in with people who have no respect for the property or the people around them.

If you're coming to UNC Charlotte to focus on school, I'd seriously think twice before signing a lease here. A student apartment should actually support students; not make it harder to succeed.

Has anyone else had problems with The Drake or Excalibur Security? Were your complaints ignored too, or has your experience been different? I'd really like to hear what other UNC Charlotte students have gone through.

Are they gonna add more classes…or more seats because the only one I can take right now is completely full. I don’t understand how there are like 10 gen chem 1 classes but 3 gen chem 2 😭??

Right now my best bet is someone failing or withdrawing I guess
