Things To Do One Night in Buffalo and the World's your Tomahawk?

Hey locals. My wife and I are visiting Buffalo from Toronto for one night for a show next weekend (Tomahawk + Melvins in Electric City).

We'd love to have a good cocktail and snack before the show. Any suggestions?

And for the next day - what's the ONE thing we should go see/do? The one that will make us think "that was cool and now we have to come back here again".

Options are:

  • THE best museum
  • or THE most awesome part of the city to wonder
  • or THE best market
  • or THE best walking tour
  • or THE one thing the Buffalo is known for and is super-touristy but also kinda fun to do

Hit me with your rhythm sticks, please!

P.S. the best espresso/coffee roasters will be appreciated too!

Question Tax bill adjusted

Anybody here a senior or have senior citizens in their family who forgot to apply for this year's STAR/senior discount on their property taxes?

In 2023 my father forgot to do the application, we went to city hall and they helped us and adjusted the bill.

This year went in and they would not help us at all. They just shrugged us off and said we missed the application deadline. There were other senior citizens theyre for the same issue as well.

I find it a bit concerning that they dont give senior citizens any leeway this year.

Shitpost Buffalo has amazing spring and fall weather

The only problem is that they occur during summer and it’s otherwise 9 months of winter.

EDIT: ok ok I give up! Jeez.. can’t have a little fun around here joking about the weather. Got it.
Now back to our regularly scheduled fun about the mayor and pot holes and recommendations on where to live when I move here tomorrow.

PS - I love winter!!

905 Elmwood

We are relocating to Buffalo and I think we are going to pull the trigger on a lease at 905 Elmwood. Any gotchas to be aware of with that area or the apartment building itself? We are probably a little older than most people in that area but from what I can tell seems like a great place to be active. Thanks for any insights.

Artpark question

Hello! Coming in from out of state for Djo tomorrow. We have lawn tickets and I’m starting to get anxious about them after searching through old threads. I’m bringing my daughter and I’m old! Will I get trampled? Will we be able to see? I may get stuck if I sit on the ground lol. Can anyone reassure me that the lawn isn’t as terrible as what I keep reading? Or does anyone have tips on how to make it better? Can we bring food to this show?

Relocating to Amherst NY area

Going to relocating to the Amherst NY area for my job and having a hard time looking for housing. Ideally looking for a townhome for my wife, myself and our small dog for under $2100. Any suggestions? Open to areas outside of Amherst for sure and/or other types of rentals.

Cell phone provider help

Hello everyone, going to be looking to drop Verizon in the near future and look to the cheaper carriers like Mint, etc. How are their coverages, specifically in Hamburg near the fair and in the Larkin district?

Who would you recommend, again in the Mint/Cricket/Visible category?

Thanks as always in advance!

So the consequence of their Tegna merger is u kill your own competition when u have the latter's own newscast on WGRZ along with Scripps owned WKBW both on the same timeslot. Clearly u just violated the competition because of the merger and WGRZ whould be owned by someone else.

Relocation Looking to move to Buffalo from NV

Looking to know what the Job market is like in the automotive industry. I drive so I'm not too concerned about walkability / downtown living but wondering where are some reasonable parts of town to live in and rent an apartment in.

Question Advice on finding a developer job.

The job market is obviously rough right now. There are more people applying for the same few jobs that often times aren't even real positions. I'm feeling burnt out on the hunt and honestly, kind of hopeless.

I have about 4 years of experience and have been searching for a new role for about 14 months. I stopped counting applications when I hit 700. I've applied locally and remote. I feel my resume gets automatically discarded because I don't have a bachelor's- anecdotally I've been told this is the case by people at the companies I'm applying to.

I'm not asking to just be given a job, just for advice on how to find one. Real advice. Not just "know someone that knows someone".

Does anyone have any tips on how to find a web dev job in the current market?

Are there any job boards that are better than others?

Should I call it quits with my career and switch into something else while I'm young enough to do it? I don't have a degree or any real experience with anything else. What is a good entry level role I could even do around here?

Question Birth at Sisters Hospital

Hi! I am ~20w pregnant and my provider delivers at Sisters Hospital! Starting to handle birth preferences with doula, and want to get feedback about Sisters Hospital! It looks like from their website they are mother-baby centered, and working to reduce interventions, but wondering if people could share their experiences with how their birth was there? Thanks in advance!
