3rd time this week; teen subway surfers on my train.

Upvotes

Luckily the last two were stopped by a MTA employee and concerned passengers. This time on the B this afternoon from Midwood to Atlantic a pair of teenage kids I swear no more then 14, masked up walks towards the front of the train. No one to my surprise stood up or stopped them even though it was pretty obvious what they were up once they passed the sliding doors between cars. My blood boiled as I stood up and started walking towards them. One noticed and started to dart towards the first car, before getting trapped and blew by me. I open the doors and ask the riders now staring to alert the conductor that two kids are trying to climb up. Not a single person stood up to help. At which point I was furious. Finally caught up to one of them, only to give them a mouth full of, what they were thinking? If they knew how many other kids have died trying subways surf. Having a teenage son myself, the only thing that was running through my mind was, that God forbid my son ever was that dumb to do something like that, that people would intervene. I couldn't help once they ran off the next stop to scold the people that stood around and did nothing. WTF is going on? I wasn't the best teen boy in the world but wow. I swear I haven't had my blood boil like that in a long while.

Does nobody in southern Brooklyn know how to drive?

Lived in bay ridge, sunset park, and now bensonhurst. It’s lowkey a mess, especially around peak hours when everyone gets off work.

Traffic lights are ignored and pedestrians aren’t making it better by jaywalking. Drivers are constantly honking and yelling at each other. Legit witnessed a road rage incident by 86st yesterday.

Apparently you can also just buy your license? Im so fed up 🤦‍♂️

PACKAGE STOLEN IN BK BY LASER SHIP EMPLOYEE

I ordered a package from Zara which was shipped through laser ship . The item was reported delivered with an image at 2:22pm but when I arrived home 40 mins later there was no package (besides a lululemon package delivered after) I have a ring camera which shows the delivery driver approaching, getting out the vehicle, going around to the passenger side of the truck and then for 24 mins my ring camera disconnects. Shortly after that my lululemon package and me arriving are all captured on camera. The driver 100% used some kind of WiFi jammer to shut the camera off. I’m so pissed off as Zara refuses to refund my almost $300 order because there is a picture of it at my door. What can I do ?? I really want that driver fired I’m so upset !

What are greasy fast food joints in Brooklyn you enjoy?

So basically it’s just that I was observing the Atlantic Terminal area since I like to explore the area in hopes I can find something like In-N-Out.

My point is that I know In-N-Out is basically exclusive to the the West Coast side of the USA as I was looking for some similar places in the area that have delicious greasy food because I have a penchant for junk food.

Adult Swim Drills in Park Slope

I wanted to plug Physique Swimming at CBE in Park Slope which has wonderful Adult Beginners classes and Adult Swim Drills (Intermediate). Literally not a paid ad I just want folks to know about since I was looking for a swim drills class for years and only learned about this from some random reddit comment.

The swim drills class is awesome if you lap swim or are preparing for a triathlon and want to improve your technique. Currently I'm the only one in the group class and I'm afraid they'll cancel it for low attendance.

Hello! 👋
I’m a dental hygiene student in NYC currently looking for patients interested in a low-cost, comprehensive dental cleaning.

Hey guys, I found these 2 in a single carrier on the streets in brooklyn last year,I had a friend foster them for a almost a year but unfortunately was not able to find a home for them and I'll be taking them back on Friday 07/24, but unable to keep them long term.

I'm hoping someone can take these 2 sweet hearts, absolute angels named Matcha & Mocha, my apartment is too small to house them longer than a few days. Resources are also very tight for me

If anyone in the Brooklyn/Boroughs are interested in these 2 sisters, please reach out! (Please serious inquires only)

I have a vehicle so can bring them to you if needed. If anyone can take them this weekend or even sooner that would be great. I know the success rate of them being adopted especially together is low and it would break my heart to surrender them to a shelter.

Double Parking

I live on a narrow block were double parking is common. City trucks can't pass and blow their horns disturbing us. Shouldn't they have a "hotline" number to call for a nearby traffic agent to issue a ticket?

[Sunset Park] FREE Event - Gunpla and Chill Thursday Nights

Hey r/Brooklyn,

If you've got a bit of a creative streak and a plastic model kit gathering dust, a backlog of Warhammer minis, or just want to try building something with your hands, come hang out with us this Thursday @ Sunset Park next to Industry City.

Gunpla & Chill is a free, weekly social build night. Bring your current project, grab a bench, and build alongside other local hobbyists. We have tools if you forget yours, and a full airbrush booth if you want to paint. No pressure, just good music and good company.

Details:
📅 Every Thursday | 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM
📍 4223 1st Ave, Studio 2, Sunset Park
💰 Free! (Just bring your kit and beverages for yourself)

Check out my profile bio for links to avoid spamming it here.

Newbies are 100% welcome. Just looking for a reason to get out of the house and meet some creative neighbors.

It's definitely something different from paint and sips and your local sports bar.

Youth softball get-togethers (w/ little or no experience)?

(repost from r/parkslope)

Hi! I'm curious whether there's any community interest in informal youth softball get-togethers at Prospect Park.

The idea is simple: a low-pressure weekly meetup where kids of any age can come throw a ball around, learn some basics, take a few swings, and spend time outside. No experience necessary, and no expectation of a big time commitment from parents or guardians.
A little about me: I'm a dad who, along with my wife (the true engine of our family), has been coaching our 12-year-old daughter for years. She's now progresssed from recreational league softball to playing for the Yankees (okay, maybe that's a bit of hyperbole, but she's currently thriving at more advanced levels nonetheless). I'd love to help other kids get a chance to try the sport in a laid-back, welcoming environment.

I'm not looking to build a travel team or create a bunch of ultra-competitive players. Maybe it's just learning how to throw and catch. Maybe it's hitting a ball farther than you thought you could. Maybe it's making a few new friends and getting some outdoor time. Whatever it becomes, the goal is to keep it positive, active, and fun.

I'm thinking of starting with a late-afternoon meetup once a week, but I'm open to ideas and seeing what kind of interest exists.

If this sounds like something your child might enjoy, or if you have questions, feedback, or suggestions, please comment or send me a message. I'd love to hear from you!

Getting fiber internet into my building - any success stories??

Hi all. I moved to a 70+ unit apartment building in an area of Brooklyn that I believe has two fiber optic networks available (FiOS + Optimum fiber). I had FiOS at my last place, and at my new apartment I'm already unhappy with the reliability of my Optimum cable internet. Customer service people at both Verizon and Optimum have told me that they likely have fiber infrastructure on my block, but they haven't received landlord permission to put any kind of fiber connections in/on the building.

I am curious if anyone here has ever spearheaded an effort to coordinate the landlord and ISP to get fiber into their building. My landlord seems pretty hands-off but not entirely unreachable by email. Did you fill out a petition to show the landlord that multiple tenants are interested? Did you knock on doors, start a building group chat ...? Because I'm willing to give it a try and I want to hear what worked. Cheers

Recommendations on kitchen compost bins and compostable bag liners for NYC conditions?

My south Brooklyn 60 unit apartment building finally started complying with city law and making a compost/food-scrap bin available for residents in the basement of my building. Anybody recommend a specific kitchen compost bin for any specific reason? I start looking into this online and there are so many options my eyes glaze over and brain shuts down. We finally got roaches under control in my apartment using insect growth regulator products and really don’t want any new pest problems, and I’m not very excited about disgusting smells either. Also while I don’t think it’s required I’m pretty sure I’m going to use compostable bags/liners for a variety of reasons I won’t go into, but I know from past experiences that Biobag brand isn’t reliable and will easily shred when filled with diverse food scraps and coffee filters etc., so looking for recommendations for those.

Anyone have a good periodontist in Brooklyn?

so my regular dentist in Park Slope has been pushing me pretty hard lately to see a periodontist for some gum work and i just... idk it felt really rushed yknow 😅

like she barely explained anything before basically telling me i need to get this done. i don't doubt something might be going on with my gums but i just dont feel comfortable committing to anything without getting a proper second opinion first.

also not gonna lie, some of her recent work has left me feeling a bit iffy so that doesnt help lol

anyone in Brooklyn have a periodontist they actually trust? someone who actually takes their time and explains whats going on properly 🙏

Men with flow hair style, where we getting it cut?

Been growing my hair out for about 9-10 months now and haven’t found a barber/stylist I love yet to get a good textured flow hair style. Lot of places are great for shorter hair but anyone got any recs for longer hair? Might just have to find a legit stylist at this point. Preferably south Brooklyn (Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO etc) but willing to travel a bit for a great cut!

Where do people in their 50s take art classes and spend time in Brooklyn?

I’m 52 and recently moved to Brooklyn. I live in north-central Brooklyn, and I’m hoping to find art classes where I won’t feel like the only middle aged person in the room. I welcome a mixed-age group, but if nearly everyone is thirty years younger than I am, I may feel a little out of place.

I’m especially interested in collage, mixed media, painting, pottery, or other creative classes that are welcoming to beginners. I’m willing to travel to other parts of Brooklyn, but I’d rather not have a very long commute.

I’d also like to hear from other Brooklyn residents in their 50s or people who know people in their 50s: What do you do for fun, creativity, or social connection? Are there classes, bookstores, cafés, or cultural events where you’ve felt comfortable going alone?

I’m not necessarily looking for something specifically geared toward older adults. A relaxed, mixed-age environment would be fine. I’m especially interested in places that feel down-to-earth.

I’d appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Getting 311 to actually respond

Edit: just wanted to update and thank everyone for their advice! My parents stopped into the office of there local council member . They were extremely helpful and yesterday morning someone from DEP was at there door . He explained that the problem is more so that the catch basin and pipes are not big enough to handle the heavy flow of water that occurs. The DEP employee is going to put in a report and hopefully a new larger drain can be put in and helps .

My elderly parents are dealing with repeated flooding because of the storm drain on their corner. Every time it rains the drain backs up and starts to flood , my 69 year old mother and 75 year old father are often outside in the pouring rain trying to clear debris to prevent flooding. calls have been put into 311 but nothing has been done . Is there a better way to get the attention of someone? I really hate that my disabled elderly parents have to clear it by hand in the pouring rain , I would help but i don’t live in the area.
