PSA r/fortgreene update, don't call it a come back
R/fortgreene was unmoderated for a few years, so I just took it over in hopes of reviving it as a place to post news and events of the surrounding area like some of the other neighborhood specific subs. I've opened up some of the restrictions for now to try and promote some activity and get things rolling, and hopefully it can stay that way.
If you are interested in joining the mod team, send me a message or DM listing why you’re interested and any examples of other subreddits you moderate.

Mama cat and newborn kittens in need a foster home ASAP
::UPDATE: foster found! Thank you everyone. 💚Follow on IG @courtstreetcats for updates and adoption info when they’re ready!::
Hi all,
I’m a cat rescuer in Brooklyn, and I’m looking for a foster home for a mama cat and her 5 newborn kittens - Alice and her beans (Garbanzo, Fava, Lima, Chickpea, and Butterbean).
I trapped Alice (after a few of weeks of getting her on a feeding schedule) along with her 4 month old kittens Kevin and Bea (also looking for a foster home! See last photo). Kevin & Bea went to temporary foster, and Alice came home with me in the trap I caught her in. I planned to keep her overnight in my bathroom, and evaluate her further the next day because she had a pretty big belly and I thought she was pregnant. When I came to check in on Alice the next day, she was doing fine, and then I ran some errands and came back, and suddenly, there were two kittens with her! She was in labor. She gave birth to 5 healthy kittens in my bathtub! Since then, Alice has gotten braver in my bathroom, leaving the trap to lounge on the toilet or window sill. She allows me to pick up her babies, which gives me the opportunity to weigh them, take progress pictures, etc.
While it is an absolute joy to open my bathroom and find a gaggle of cats/kittens, they deserve a low traffic, calm space to be in, i.e. a spare room (an office, or bathroom with low to no foot traffic would be amazing!), and I'd really like to be able to shower without reconfiguring my bathroom each time.
Care for Alice and her beans is straight forward - Alice feeds, bathes, and takes care of the babies, you feed and take care of Alice! She eats about 4-5 cans (3 oz) per day, as she uses a lot of calories feeding all of her babies (just like a human mom!), will need to have her litterbox cleaned daily, and a bed with high sides to keep the babies from wandering away.
What I provide:
- All vetting (any vet visits, medications, etc.)
- A high sided bed to keep everyone together
- Towels/sheets/linens, if needed
- Support (questions answered, advice given in a timely manner)
What you provide:
- A quiet, safe place for Alice and the beans
- Food
- Litter (I can provide a litter box, if requested)
- Pictures and personality descriptions that I can use to help them get adopted. I can give tips for the pics, etc.
Timeline: the beans need to stay with mom until around 8 weeks, so through the first week in September. Then they can start to be fostered/adopted out, pending avail. Preference will be given to fosters that can commit until everyone is adopted/fostered out.
This is one of the worst kitten seasons on record, and I could really use someone’s help with fostering this family. Please share this with anyone you know that might be interested in fostering.
If you’re interested, please send me a DM or go ahead and fill out the application here .I look forward to hearing from you, and working together to save this little family.

Introducing: Hot Dog, the fanciest tuxedo in the history of the world.
Hot dog is a four month old male tuxedo kitten (cherries are still intact) who has received all of his preliminary vaccines, worm, ear mites and flea meds, a SNAP test and is currently crashing with me as a foster kitten. He is currently receiving treatment for a fungal infection for the next few weeks.
Hot dog was found alone, scrounging for food in a backyard in New Jersey where I immediately went to scoop him and bring him back to the VIP life here in Brooklyn. He is a sweet, purring little love bug with a giant meatball head and would make a beautiful addition to a nice home.
He is currently decompressing and spends his days battling nip mice, watching Mad Men and trying to escape the bathroom to spend time with my two resident demons.
Hot dog is available for adoption. Hot dog requires that you have personal and Vet references and he would prefer if you had another cat to plot with.
PS the belly is plush, it is white and it is MAGNIFICENT.

Moving to Europe: My stuff could be your stuff : Part 2
Hi fellow Brooklyn peeps. You've heard it here first, I am off to Europe and selling the majority of my stuff. All of the decorative/smaller items can be taken immediately, most of the furniture and some kitchen things will need to stay with me until late July/Early August and even pushed into late August if necessary and can be "reserved" with a partial deposit. Serious humans only. Please do not waste my time, it makes my cats sad and is bad for my skin.

Is Fort Greene park muddy?
Hey I don’t live in the neighborhood but was thinking about taking my dog there this am for off leash hours. Is the park super muddy and gross after yesterday’s rain? Thanks!

ISO design cutting machine
Hi! I’m not sure where the best place to post this is (I don’t have facebook), but I’m looking to buy or borrow a design cutting machine.
I am making custom permanent vinyl logos to put on wine glasses as a gift for a friend, and don’t necessarily need a new one.
If anyone is selling or giving one away, please feel free to reach out. I’d be able to travel in the city to pick one up. Thank you!

Anyone here run a local group, or been meaning to start one?
Hey neighbors, I live in Fort Greene and helped start Meetup years ago. I'm building a small nonprofit to help people start small, neighborhood-scale groups: book clubs, running crews, boardgame nights, that kind of thing, each with a little community service built in. We're getting going in and around Fort Greene/Prospect Heights and I'd love to talk to locals who run a group or have wanted to start one, mostly to compare notes on what actually makes them work. (Small microgrants available too, but honestly I'm more after real feedback right now as we get this off the ground.) Comment or message me if that's you.

Has anyone seen Martha?
There was a lady named Martha who used to hang out on Myrtle Avenue. Dark hair, Latinx, very skinny, was often quite strung out but when she was cogent she was VERY nice. Just an incredibly sweet, lovely woman. I haven't seen her in a while so I wondered if anyone had seen her. I think one of the last times I did she was getting arrested for shoplifting outside Walgreens. I just found the subreddit and I've been worried so figured I'd ask.

Sucker punched on corner of Lafayette and South Portland
I was walking Saturday night around 9:30 when out of nowhere a shorter black guy jumped in front of my girlfriend and I. He starting mimicking my voice and was blocking our way. We went to move around him and he threw a punch that hit me in the back before running away. Wondering if anyone witnessed this or had a similar experience and can ID the guy. We were in a rush so I did not have time to take a picture or stop to call the police.

Assaulted with pepper spray on Tuesday, 7/7
I'm a bit embarrassed to share this here, but figured others needed to know. Plus I'm exhausted with people breaking the law and not facing consequences.
This Tuesday, I was walking across Washington Ave at Willoughby and, as I went to cross Washington (with a very clear walk signal) a biker almost hit me zooming down Washington. I calmly said "alright" as he passed. He crossed Willoughby and started shouting back at me as he rode away (I don't know what he said). I yelled at him to "keep riding".
I crossed Washington and start heading south, at which point I see him turn around on his bike further down the block. He starts traveling north, the opposite way he was going, passes me, then takes his bike up on the sidewalk. As he rides toward me I stand there with arms by my side, I look at him and say "what do you have to say?". He proceeds to pull up directly next to me, pulls out a bottle of pepper spray, and sprays me in my face as I quickly duck my head. He then nervously pedals away but stops further down the block on the sidewalk to put his pepper spray away (this is where I took his photo). He was last seen making a right on Lafayette, going against traffic (presumably to get away from me before I could take more photos).
Luckily I was wearing sunglasses and it didn't get in my eyes, but my forehead was burning for a little bit after. I called 911 and police were shockingly there in less than 5 minutes, at which point I described the above, shared the photos with them, and showed them my now red forehead, officially filing a report. They said they would ride around the neighborhood and look for him, but I haven't heard from them since.
So, I'm sharing this photo to a) warn people to stay away from this psycho and b) to see if anyone recognizes him or the bike he's on. Take note of the incredibly bright pink backpack, his tan water bottle, white helmet, white riding gloves (what a nerd....). He's about 6'1", black and male.
For what it's worth, I'm a 5'9" white male in good shape and he still had the confidence to come up right next to me (albeit to be a wuss and use pepper spray). I've lived here for 20+ years...this is a first.
If you do recognize him, please DM me. Stay safe out there.

Lost Dog Spotted In Park
My partner spotted this dog near the main playground in Fort Greene Park. They weren’t able to help it, and we’re not allowed to bring dogs into our building
