Uber/Waymo thinks this is a safe pick up location.

Post image

Do you agree? It’s on E. 11th. Basically in front of the stop light next to feeder and with ongoing construction. I’ve called their support team numerous times to complain about this, since there are several side streets the Waymo can pull into that would be a safer alternative than this. Who else can I talk to about this??

Ask Austin Today is the hottest day of the year in Austin. What are we setting our thermostats at?

I’m usually setting the AC stat around 74-75, but wondering if that is futile. Seems sorta unreasonable to set the thermostat 40 degrees lower than the outside temperature. What about y’all? How are we keeping our homes cool today/for the rest of the week?

Found lost or abandoned dog at Planet Fitness (Lake Creek)

Hello,

I am posting for my friend who found this dog outside of Planet Fitness at 5 AM in the Lake Creek location. He has no collar or identifying information and is not chipped. He seems to be neutered and we're not sure about his age (maybe 3 or 4 years old maybe a senior?). He's very chill and easygoing and coughs when he gets excited.

So far, my friend has reached out to 311, taken him to a shelter, posted on Facebook and Nextdoor, and asked around the neighborhood but isn't sure where else to spread this information. If you could help spread the word and share this post, we would really appreciate it!! We'll also be posting this on Pawboost and Petco Love in the meantime.

Please message me if you're the owner of this sweet baby, if you have any information about who his owner may be, or if you're interested in adopting/fostering if we aren't able to find his owner. We are very desperate to help him. Thank you so much!

Ask Austin How to Survive Austin Summers with a Dog?

the good people of austin, what the f*ck do you do with your dog in the summer? I recently moved to Austin with my 11 year old dog and have yet to find a time of day that isn’t absolutely miserable outside for a walk. Mornings are like a sauna, midday is sweltering, and I just tried a later evening walk and returned home with about 20 mosquito bites. My dog also can’t tolerate the heat for more than 15 minutes at any of these times. I honestly don’t know if i’m even doing the right thing by taking him out (we do avoid hot pavement). I usually take him to a park by my house that has a lot of shade, but even there he’s too hot within 10-15 minutes. i’m curious if people generally go for longer walks with their dogs in the summer here, and if not, how do you keep your dogs exercised/stimulated/entertained when it’s too hot to be outside?

Ask Austin ARC hold times = death

Sorry if this has been said before but can we take a moment to complain about ARC?

Why is there no direct to clinic number?
Why does it usually take 45-60 min to get a human being on the line?
Why do they transfer you so quickly to another person for more hold instead of ever trying to help solve your problems?

— i wanna find another provider but then they have SO many specialties & I like my PCP and their my chart stuff all being connected is amazing.

Someone rage with me for a moment pls

Shitpost Guards On Call, ridiculousness. Maybe a disrespectful message?

Post image
54 Upvotes

Been doing security for a while now. I have noticed since coming to Austin a lot of these companies are insane.

This is a message from a side job. I keep these people around for extra hours. Mind you this is a place that pays $17 an hour pays some people as low as $12.

Is the overall tone of this message disrespectful or not?

I am wondering if they have become more annoying than what the extra money is worth.

Purple Martins in Round Rock last night

We had to get a few things from HEB anyway, so we went a little further to the location on Louis Henna around sunset. It's amazing seeing thousands of Martins swarming before they roost for the night. Travis Audobon is doing watch parties, but it should be like this every night for the next few weeks.

PSA Update your AC with rebates and a 0% loan

Thumbnail austinenergyapp.com

The City of Austin has a program to help you update your HVAC and general energy efficiency. Take this survey and get in touch with an assessor.

If you get an inspection and follow through with one of the City's approved contractors, you're eligible for potentially a few thousand bucks in rebates and a 0% loan through Velocity Credit Union: https://www.velocitycu.com/loans/austin-energy/

I have no affiliation with any of these programs but I'm a client who is about to update my home. Overall estimates I've gotten are around $20k for a 1,400 square foot home with ancient HVAC equipment, including ductwork that has disintegrated over the years.

The city of Austin could lower Lake Austin for the first time in nearly a decade this fall — but city officials remain unconvinced that drawing down the lake would help control an infestation of invasive hydrilla that plagues the waterway.

Ask Austin Do you actually enjoy working for the company you are employed with?

I've been with Ascension for 17 years. I will say that I've been fortunate to work for departments that have really wonderful managers, and I've moved through the ranks with great mentorship to guide me along. The current group for is great, I work from home full time and enjoy autonomy and flexibility in my role. That said, I find myself curiously looking at other companies to see what the possibilities are. I don't dislike my job, I just crave something new, and wouldn't mind the bump in salary that a new opportunity usually comes with. My background is primarily finance and treasury; forecasting, approving budgets, account management, etc. and I'm currently in Senior Finance role earning $100k, for reference.

Leaving Ascension feels scary. I want to hear from you if you genuinely enjoy working for the company you are employed with. And I wouldn't mind a heads up from those of you who can tell me which companies to stay far, far away from either! :)
