Question Another Superblast 3 Damage Example

Upvotes

I'm piggybacking off the similar post this morning by /u/fattunadog. I made a reply there but I'm worried it's shadowbanned like my posts sometimes are. I've had no responses yet.

Everyone in that thread is knocking his wear and blaming his abuse. My shoes only have 54 km on them, have only been used on roads, and I have the exact same issue. The last picture is my typical road example (does anyone else have to snap pictures while running?).

If nothing else, I want to show this is a real quality control issue/pattern, but I want to ask: will Asics do anything about this? Do I need to get some shoe goo?

Inner tread is peeling on both shoes. I don’t know if this is a durability issue or perhaps a problem with my stability. Has anyone experienced this? Thank you

I have about 100 miles on these, mostly running on asphalt and some gravel.

Daily Trainer Question EVO SL close to retirement - what's next?

My EVO SLs just hit 1000 km (620 miles), so the time to replace them is approaching.

They've been my only running shoes for a bit over a year, and I've done everything in them: easy runs, 10K-15Ks, one half marathon, mostly at a pretty humble pace (~6.3min/km / 10:30min/mile).

I love them and had the most fun, but recently I've been getting pain around the front/inside of my ankles after runs. I'm not sure if it's simply because the shoes have 1000 km on them now, or if I've reached the point where I need something a bit more stable.

I've been looking at the Novablast 5/6 because my partner absolutely loves them. The Vomero Plus has also caught my eye since there are a lot of good deals at the moment, although I'm wondering if it might be a bit too soft. I also found a good price on the Boston 13.

F31, 55kg/121 lbs. I mostly run on roads, 3x week (easy, tempo, long run). I'm looking for a shoe that can do it all, specially the tempo work I'm currently focusing on, and eventually longer runs as I build back towards half marathon distance. Ideally something that feels stable and reliable, but still fun to run in. Budget is around €200.

Any recommendations?

Comparing Shoes Question ASICS Megablast vs On Cloudmonster 3 Hyper LightSpray

Hello fellow geeks.

The ASICS Megablast is my GOAT running trainer and the favourite child in my rotation for some time. I prefer it over my Carbons, at all speeds, from distances all the way to 50k.

With 1000km clocked, it is finally reaching the point where it’s losing it’s pop. I intend to buy another pair, but also wanted to try some competitors (if anything, to rotate with on my long tempo runs to extend the lifetime of my next Megablasts).

So far, the On Cloudmonster 3 Hyper LightSpray seems to be one of the most comparable premium super trainer when considering comfort, energy return, and impact absorption.

Keen to hear from anybody who owns this, or both, shoes for their take on how they like them and whether it’s worth the price?

Question Shoe compatibility

Upvotes

Shoe compatibility

When do you decide if a shoe isn't for you?

I bought a pair of Nike vomero plus about a month ago, and I've only been able to put about 15 miles on them. It seems like every time I try to run more than 2 miles in them, I just start forming a blister on the inside of my foot about 3/4 inch from the ball of my big toe. I really wanted to try the Vomero plus because of everyone always recommending and saying they were great, but I just can't seem to not get blisters.

I do wait about a week or so before running in them again so my foot isn't as tender in that spot to try to avoid the blistering.

Question New runner shoes recommendation

Hi everyone, I'm a new runner. My current tempo run pace is 7:15/km and easy run is over 9/km. Currently I'm using the Asics Dynablast 5, which I have almost 200km mileage in them. I want to add another shoe to my roster. These are the shoes i'm contemplating:

  1. Asics Novablast 6
  2. Adidas Adizero Evo SL
  3. Li Ning Red Hare 9 Ultra

honestly my main concern is, am I too slow currently for these shoes? I'm in Malaysia, so temperatures are always over 30 celcius and close to 40 celsius with very high humidity.

Comparing Shoes Question Substitute for Vomero Plus

Upvotes

I want to find a similar substitute for the Vomero Plus (Although I am happy with them) My current rotation is VP and ZF6 for tempo/race day. Looking stats in runrepeat, the aero glide 4 looks similar to VP, but with more shock absortion, more energy return and less weight. Is a Good substitute? Any other choices?

Question Anyone been looking at getting some Chinese running shoes for hyrox?

Upvotes

I have the Li Ning challenge 5, and they are good, but feel like my pace might be a bit slow for them, running around 5:20 ks, I prefer the Li Ning red hare 9 ultra, the bounce is crazy, and can cruise at a good pace, but probably not the best fit for hyrox, Anyone got any recommendations?

Question Too much midfoot bulge? NB FuelCell v5

Thumbnail

Hi all,

I have NB Fresh Foam X More in a 12 (UK) and they fit nicely.

I tried on some Fuelcell Rebel v5 - the 12 was too short, and 12 wide has a load of excess material.

These are a 12.5 - they have a nice thumb width at the end, but I am worried that my wide midfoot is bulging too much.

Any insights? I don’t want to run in them as that makes them unreturnable. Are there any brands that are good for a wide midfoot?

Many thanks!

Race Shoe Question Are racing/competition shoes right for me?

I'll be running my first-ever marathon this fall, and I think I'd like to invest in a pair of racing shoes for it, but I'm not sure and was hoping this community could help.

I've been running for three years now and have run three half marathons in that span, but this being my first full marathon, my main goal is to just finish. I'm following the Higdon intermediate 1 plan and have been doing pace runs at a 9:00/mile pace and long runs in the 9:30/mile pace ballpark.

My question: are racing shoes right for me? I keep feeling the pull to look into a pair (the Alphafly 3s and Endorphin Elite 2s, to be specific) to use for my longest runs in my block and on race day, but I don't know if a carbon-plated super shoe designed specifically for racing/competition/speed is even right for someone like myself who really just wants to finish; hitting my 9:00 pace would be a bonus as far as I'm concerned.

For reference: I'm currently using the New Balance Fresh Foam X 880v15 for my long runs (I like them!), and I'm 5'10" 170lb.

Question Novablast 6 and Superblast 3

Hey guys! So here's my dilemma. I'm a new runner and have been using a US 9 (27cm) New Balance 1080v15 because I thoughts it's my fit. But just this month, I bought a Merrell Agility Peak 5 which is a US 8 (26cm) and surprisingly, it's actually my perfect fit! I compared it with my 1080 and it made me question my life choices. Augh!

Anyway, I tried Glycerin Max 2 US 8, it's good. Adidas Evo SL US 8, it's not good. Too snug.

Now, my original plan is to buy an Asics Novablast 6 or Superblast 3 however, there's no Asics shop here in my area. I need to fly to a different region just to fit check.

My question is, should I blind order Novablast 6 and Superblast 3 US 8 or should I consider US 8.5? It's risky cause I would order online and there's a NO EXCHANGE POLICY in their shop. It's cheaper that's why...

I would appreciate all responses. Cheers!

Race Shoe Question Alternatives to Saucony Endorphin Speed 4?

I have an upcoming race and was hoping to find another pair of ES4 since mine are worn out, but if I order them now I wouldn't get them in time cause they're only available on a few niche online stores. These were perfect because they're snappy enough while being noticeably cushioned. They also gently hug the roof of my feet even if I tied them snugly.

Not at all like my other tempo shoes - Adidas Adizero Boston 12 - which feel as though my feet are being strangled with an indestructible piece of carboard. Running in those sometimes feels like slamming my heels on concrete, the cushioning is not comparable to ES4 AT ALL.

Endorphin Sped 5 are easy to find but I just can't stand how firm they are on the above part of my foot, especially the toes, which I like to be able to wiggle around a little bit.

_____________________________

To summarize, I would greatly appreciate if you could recommend me a pair of running shoes which are:

  • snappy enough for race day;
  • cushioned;
  • soft on the dorsum;
  • still available for purchase.

Thanks in advance!

_____________________________

Some details, if needed:

  • I need these mainly for races, but also for the hardest workouts;
  • I don't have particularly wide feet, but a wider toe box would be appreciated. It's not required though;
  • I'd like to keep the budget low, below 120 € if possible, especially if the "springiness" dies down noticeably over time.

Question Triumph 24 width?

Hi, I’m wondering if any one know how wide the new triumphs are? The 23 is too narrow in the forefoot for me. All my local stores does not have the shoe in stock, so I can’t test it for myself…

Question Advice on replacing Ultraboost 5

Hi all,

Looking for advice on replacing my Adidas Ultraboost 5, now at around 800 km.

Current rotation: UB5 for easy, recovery, long runs. Boston 13 for tempo/intervals/faster work. I have been running in the UB5 and previous versions for >10 years.

Goals are to stay injury-free (in past prone to shin splints, UBs and changing running technique really helped solving this), continue on half marathon volume and for short term improve 5K PR.

I usually run 2x/week, sometimes 3x. Long runs up to 18 km. High cadans, short steps. 5k at 4:45/km, long runs 6:00-6:15. 80kg. B13 feels efficient, but I don’t want it as my main easy/long-run shoe.

Looking for a comfortable, protective daily trainer for easy/recovery/long runs, mostly road.

Considering: UB5, Adidas Supernova Prima 2, Nike Vomero 18, ASICS Nimbus/Cumulus.

Any recommendations from you?

Thx!

Question Shoes similar to EVO SL?

I recently bought the Adidas EVO SL and i really like shoe love the cushioning with the tempo feel to it. I also have the Saucony Endorphine Speed 5, which i feel has significantly less cushioning. But when looking around i see many people comparing them to each other and they are saying that they are quite similar. I do not even slightly understand this because the ES5 feels much stiffer and not even close when it comes to cushioning. So what shoes should i be looking at if i want some shoe that could replace the EVO SL in the future?

Question Triumph 23 vs 24

I’m not a runner. I walk a lot. Been having trouble finding shoes that fit well. I have flatter feet and high insteps, so I need more room on the top of my feet. I tried on the 23s. They fit well. Surprisingly, the Wide fit me better, and I’ve never worn wide sneakers in my life. Regular/medium always.
I returned them, bc I had bad low back pain from my first walk of about 7K steps. Maybe I just need to get used to them more. Not sure. I don’t have a back problem. Just typical middle age aches and pains. Would you choose one of these for mainly walking or possibly another model?

Question New Runner

New Runner

Hi! I just started running (literally 2 days ago). Does anyone have any shoe recommendations? I’m currently wearing New Balance 520’s. I know these aren’t the best for running and are more of an everyday shoe. I’ve also heard the shoe can make or break your run so I want to have the best experience I can.

Race Shoe Question Lack of 5k Super Shoes

There seem to be a lot of great shoe options coming out every year for marathons. I’m wondering why there seems to be a lack of interest from companies to release similar top of the line shoes specific to shorter distances?

Is it the case that the best marathon shoes generally translate well to 5ks too? What’s the best 5k shoe money can buy right now?

Question Marathon Shoe Recommendations

Started running in February and running my first marathon in October. I am 35, flat feet, 224 lbs, will probably be running a 10-11 min pace for my marathon. Current shoe rotation is Megablast, Superblast 3, Vomero plus, Evo SL Exo. Evo's were my first running shoes, but i have slowly stopped using them because I believe I am getting knee pain from them, from the lack of stability. I have done 10+ mile runs in all the other shoes. Right now I am planning on buying another pair of megablast for the marathon. the reason I'm looking for possible alternatives is because the upper of the megablast isn't the greatest. I love the foam, but i sometimes get lace bite from the upper, and sometimes, on longer runs, I get blisters on the sides off my toes. I have to make sure I tie the laces right before i start running. just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for maybe another pair of shoes? I was looking at possibly the cloudmonster 3 hyper as ive heard thats a great shoe for a lot of time on feet. Also the new newbalance SC Rebel's that just got announced look interesting.

Big/Heavy Runner Question Running shoe recommendations for heavy runner using orthotics

Post image
4 Upvotes

I've been running since November last year, started out with a pair of New Balance 880 v15, and recently got a pair of Kiprun Challengers for faster runs. The New Balances are wearing out, and I'm looking for a replacement, hopefully a bit more fun! Currently run 3 times per week, generally 6-12 km per session, and aiming to get 5km under 20mins by the end of the year (also do 5 other varied crosstraining sessions but they don't impact the shoes)

I'm 93kg and wear rigid half foot orthotics, this is making it tricky to find something that suits - a lot of shoes are too narrow for the orthotics (eg tried the Boston 13, even the Challengers are a struggle) plus can be a bit unstable, and many others are too soft and bottom out under my weight (eg Novablasts). Usually a euro size 44.

Pic attached of the orthotics with a North Face Ultra Fastpack insole, and a Kiprun Challengers insole, to show the width aspect. (In general, I cut the back half of insoles away so the orthotics sit lower, these are the two intact ones I have).

So, can anyone suggest shoes I could try that would handle the orthotics, handle my weight, and hopefully be more fun than the 880s?

(Sorry if this ends up as a duplicate, I've been struggling to understand 'reading the rules' and getting deleted).

Question Any of these trail shoes suitable for high instep/midfoot?

Hi, I wan´t to get back to running and have preselected some shoes on runrepeat with high shock absorption and rigid midsoles due to my foot health issues.

I also have quite high instep/midfoot (hereditary) so not many shoes fit me and none of the shoes in question are available to try in brick and mortar store near me, only order online, return etc.

Salomon AeroGlide 4 GRVL

Hoka Mafate 5

Nike Wildhorse 10

Hoka Mafate X

Kiprun Kipsummit Max

Teva Hurricane Trailsetter

So what I am looking for is tips like "I have high instep too and these shoes fit me." or maybe the opposite "I have normal instep and have to lace these shoes all the way down so my foot doesn´t jump up and down."

Thanks.
