I live in the Lydian which is a 24 story building in the IMD. It’s only 3–4 years old and the cheapest studio goes for about $2,200.

I moved in a month ago and the elevators have been broken almost the entire time. Only one out of 3 works for the whole building, with 5–10 minute waits. It’s gotten worse over the past week and we’ve had repeated outages where every elevator is down at once and I’ve had to climb 20 flights to get to my unit. I don’t know how are the disabled and elderly coping with this situation.

Management hasn’t responded to any emails by tenants. What would be the next step to escalate this? Are there any laws about this?

I work at a restaurant within the Gibsons Restaurant Group. On Friday, an 18 year old female host was shown a photo of a topless woman by our male AGM. The image was privately texted to the AGM by this woman. The woman does not work for Gibsons (we assume) but is a woman the manager has a personal relationship with.

What can we do moving forward? This manager has been notorious in causing issues, especially with the young female hosts. HR has been repeatedly notified of his inappropriate remarks and behavior, but this is by far the most egregious.

Any help would be appreciated.

I’m new to tennis and recently started using the Chicago Park District courts, so I’m hoping some regulars can help me understand the local etiquette.

The posted rules at the Waveland courts seem pretty straightforward:
1. Courts are reserved for one hour.
2. Courts turn over on the hour, no exceptions.
3. Each court has its own numbered reservation rack.

However, what I’ve observed doesn’t seem to match those rules. Most people appear to wait until someone voluntarily leaves rather than expecting courts to turn over at the hour. In one instance, I politely asked a group to wrap up at the end of their hour, and after they agreed, another group told me they had been waiting longer and that the courts were effectively first come, first served.

So I’m wondering: what’s the actual etiquette that regulars follow? Is there an accepted system that’s different from the posted rules? I don’t want to accidentally break any social norms or come across as rude—I just want to understand how people typically handle court rotations.

Ok so,
I’m 84 weeks sober and building my life into something I’m actually proud of and into something I choose and not just let happen. Obviously I have a past and it’s not pretty. I promised myself I would be more social but instead I just kinda buried myself in work and made excuses why I couldn’t meet people.

My biggest hurdle is my teeth, they really took the brunt force of my years of not giving a shit. But it’s like I know I’m not ugly and I’m funny, I’m fun to be around. I love music, guitars, machines, and anything that gives me goosebumps. But I just can’t push myself to get out there, because I feel like everyone will judge me as soon as they see my teeth and I mention the word addiction. And I mean I’m getting them fixed but that to is a slow process. I know I need to bring stuff to the table in any kind of relationship but I dont want to wait until I have better looking teeth just to make friends or be happier.

Am I just being dramatic or are these genuine concerns. I couldn’t really find the same topic anywhere. I’m on the west side if that matters any. Thanks for reading.

Can I simply tap my contactless Visa/Mastercard (or Google Wallet linked to my credit card) on CTA buses and trains, or is a Ventra card/app strongly recommended?

Are there any downsides to just using a regular credit card for all my rides (transfers, foreign cards, reliability, etc.)?

Hi! My endocrinologist is leaving Northwestern, and I’m considering looking outside of their office to get booked with someone sooner.

Does anyone have any recommendations for thorough endocrinologists, preferably with Type 1 Diabetes experience? I have a few related autoimmune conditions, and I’ve been spoiled in the past with very proactive endos who have caught things not even on my radar. I would also prefer a female identifying doctor if anyone has any leads.

I live in Uptown and work downtown, so anyone within a reasonable distance around there is ideal, but willing to commute a ways if necessary!

Hello Fellow Chicagoans.

I have a vulnerable senior in my neighborhood. She is AT LEAST neglected by her family, if not being financially abused. Neighbors are trying to step up but she is left outside by her family all day alone. Her son told me "she's not homeless" as if that's the only criteria. She is a funny, sweet woman of almost 90 years old. We try to make sure she has food most days and some conversation but I'm concerned about the living situation and how her family is treating her. I'm worried that involving social services won't actually help the situation. Last time I called them about a vulnerable senior begging on the street they made one attempt to find him, didn't send someone who spoke English, and he's still out there every day.

I have invited her into my home when it's hot and/or smoky. Others have taken her in for one or two nights (she is afraid of the basement where they keep her). I bring her food and water/coffee as I can. I got her registered at the senior center but I think she might be afraid to be left alone there for any length of time and she can't walk or navigate the bus that far away.

Does anyone know if social services can actually HELP people or are they too overwhelmed? She has early dementia but knows all her kid's names, knows her birthday and where she's from. She makes jokes and tells stories. She is clean and can go to the bathroom by herself and get around (clearly because she's going up and down basement stairs every day).

It's really awful and sad.

Can anyone give advice on how to get a proper evaluation and follow up from social services?

I live in cook county. I got my reassessment notice recently and the new value they put on my place seems higher than what similar homes around me have actually sold for in the last year or so. I started calling around to see what it would cost to have someone handle an appeal for me, but the attorney quotes I am getting are steep, especially when there is no guarantee I will win or even get much of a reduction out of it. At that point it feels like I might just be paying their fee with whatever I save. So I am trying to figure out how people handle this on their own in real life, not the theoretical answer you get off the county website.

I’ve been in Chicago for almost 2 years now and I’m in a commuter school, which makes hanging out with people I’m around a little difficult. It doesn’t help that I didn’t put too much effort beyond the first group of people I met but they don’t really care about exploring beyond our usual hangout activities.

Now I’m in my final few semesters and I have this urge to meet new people and just live a little more but it’s not the easiest when everyone’s doing their own thing :/

I need to get my car fixed, my usual mechanic is not working at the moment. With him, I replaced both control arms but the parts I bought and used did not work.

I'm going to use the guaranty to get them both replaced with new parts, but my current mechanic can't help me.

Has anyone picked up free mulch from the city?

According to Chicago.gov the bureau of forestry offers free mulch pickup at a few sites around the city.

I’d like to rent a Uhaul pickup and get a few cubic yards, but am hesitant because it would suck to rent the truck and drive to O’hare and be turned away.

Has anyone done this before? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Anyone have a good locally owned vet in the city or the burbs? Have gone to a few and they were all super expensive and felt like they were trying to sell me unnecessary tests/upsell me. Looking for a vet that’s very conservative with treatment (only tests what they need to), inexpensive, and has good bedside manner.
