I’m pissed about not being born into generational wealth

I know this isn’t realistic for most people, but I do still fantasize about it pretty often. Imagine waking up everyday not having to worry about where your next meal is coming from or if you will have enough money to cover the cost of rent when it’s due. Imagine never having to penny pinch. Imagine not needing to live alongside roommates just to get by.

I hate working hours of my life away for essentially pennies and never feeling well rested because I spend most of my waking life at a job I hate. I hate that everyone in my family has spent their lives chasing relationships that never lasted instead of using that time to create generational wealth.

I literally don’t want to participate in this anymore. It’s like no matter how hard I work or how high up the latter I climb, nothing is ever enough.

And don’t tell me to get a second job. I simply refuse to do that. I’m allowed to be annoyed by the system that’s been working against us.

Anyone got any advice on making and meeting new friends? I always feel like I struggle with easing into new groups and actually becoming a part of them. Instead of just kinda existing lol.

I started to walk my dog more, and I am very proud.

My wife died three years ago. I was feeling lonely. I never realised that she was the one who had been taking care of the whole house.

I struggled for a while but then I started taking care of my responsibilities again. I got a puppy he was the only thing holding me together. But he makes a big mess, peeing everywhere and destroying everything, (not to mention eating every pair of my slippers)

Last month, I promised myself that I would take him for a walk every day. And I have kept this promise. Today marks 30 days without an excuse. I am happy and proud. I just wanted to share this.

I feel like ill be living at home forever

Im a 23 year old who graduated with a bad degree and who is stuck in a minimum wage gas station right now. I feel like im falling behind in life even though ive tried hard to better my life for the past year. I did get a new job in sales that paid a little more for a month but it was a terrible place to work that set me up to fail so i went back to the gas station.

I know there is that proverb to not compare yourself with other but like at some point you kinda have to right? Like an able bodied, grown adult should have using the toilet and tieing their shoes down. I feel like me not being financially independant or on my way to it are like that, a hurdle i should have crossed by now and each year i dont the more of a loser i become. If it were not for my parents id be homeless and probablly dead now in all honesty. I do help them when they need it and mow the grass for them weekly but like they could literally ruin my life and condem me to death via homelessness if they wanted and there is nothing i id be able to do.

Idk what im looking for but i just feel really helpless and stuck in life. I literally dont think about my distant future at all since i cant imagine one for myself. Every day i keep applying and applying to jobs as my hope get less and less.

Hesitant to Meet New Men

Late 30's female, within "median" retirement savings for age, no debt, close to buying a decent pre-owned SUV. I have a full-time job I like, but don't make a ton of money. I moved back in with my mom during / after my divorce and I'm embarrassed and worried that I will be judged for it.

I was married to what I thought was a good man. However, he returned to some bad habits he had that he led me to believe he had turned from -- including vaping, smoking, drinking -- one time way too much, frequently verbally abusive / temper out bursts, paranoia, and eventually cheating on me with another woman.

When I was married, my then husband and I were going to save money and buy a house together after we had paid off all our debt. We paid off the debt and didn't get to the point of saving for a house. We didn't have much money, so I didn't leave the divorce with too much.

I am hesitant to go out and meet new friends or new men because I'm worried about what people will think. I do not have my own apartment or house. At the same time, with how expensive everything is I have a difficult time justifying spending so much of my paycheck for just the basics-- just to say "yes, I'm independent." It will take me quite a while to save up for a place of my own. I wish I had the money now to buy a decent condo / house so I wouldn't feel the need to feel unworthy when talking to others.

As a man looking for a serious relationship or an adult looking for new friends -- what would you think of a person in my situation?

I got my first apartment at 24 today šŸ™šŸ»šŸ„ŗ

Today I signed my lease, got my apartment keys, and I’m finally able to move in. I honestly can’t stop smiling.

This past year has been one of the hardest years of my life, and there were times I wasn’t sure things would ever get better. After everything I’ve been through, having a place that’s finally mine feels unreal.

It’s not about having a fancy apartment—it’s about finally having my own space, some peace, and the chance to start a new chapter.

I’m just really grateful today and wanted to share this with someone. If you’re going through a hard time right now, I hope things get better for you too.

How do you get yourself to do small chores after work?

• Upvotes

During the day, I’ll plan to start the laundry or clean up a little after work. When I get home, I usually shower first, but once I’m clean and in comfortable clothes, I feel completely done for the day. Sometimes even showering seems to use up the little energy I had left.

Then I sit down and check my phone for a few minutes, and suddenly much more time has passed than I expected.

I’m not trying to have a super productive evening. I just want to get one small chore done before I fully settle in. Do you do chores before showering, or is there another routine that helps you get started?

Do you still celebrate them the same way, or has your idea of a good birthday changed over time? What’s your favorite way to spend it now?

Advice to angry parents

Stop having kids if you're just gonna bitch and moan about them acting like kids lmao. Life is hard by default and you chose to make it harder by putting another human being in your life. Don't blame your kids because you chose to put them here. And I'm not saying this to be mean. I see a lot of parents being abusive to their children yet they keep having more kids and complaining about them being too expensive to take care of or them being hard to deal with. They're kids, they don't know as much as you so of course it's stressful. Have kids if you really want to, but if you don't want to deal with the stress, then stop having em.

Sexually harassed by owner of house I rent room from and hell living situation with a twist.

{Grab some tea.}🤣

I apologize in advance for my venting. I’m a 30-year-old male currently renting a room from this retired Navy veteran and his wife. It has taken such a toll on my mental health that I’ve had some very dark thoughts.

Initially, I posted on Nextdoor that I was looking for a room to rent but absolutely did not want to be around children because they wreak havoc on my central nervous system—no joke. When I was about to move in, the wife and daughter were still living here, but according to my landlord (whom we’ll call the Navy veteran), they were set to move to the Philippines within a month. For some reason, they ended up staying, and it’s been a year now.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have the resources to move again, so I sucked it up because I had no other option. As I anticipated, the child is a complete demon, and the parents have no control over her. I’ve endured many sleepless nights because the kid stays up making noise well past three in the morning, and every time I brought it up to the Navy veteran, he would apologize. Then, the very next night, it would happen again.

On top of that, the Navy veteran has homosexual tendencies, and it turns out the ā€œwife thingā€ was just an arrangement for a green card. They had the child together through artificial insemination, yet they sleep in the same bed every night, so I never suspected this twist.
He has been constantly flirting with me since he came clean about the whole situation, saying things like, ā€œI don’t understand why you’re single. I would date you in a heartbeat,ā€ while prancing around the house in very revealing briefs and bikinis. I swear, I wish I were making this shit up.

The worst of it came when he felt it was okay to grab one of my nipples while I was out back using the pool he had given me access to.
I am happy to say that I am finally moving at the end of this month, now that I have a car and have saved enough money for a down payment elsewhere. I wish it hadn’t taken me this long, but hopefully my next living situation will be better and safer.
