I am turning 21 in a couple of months and I’m graduating with my bachelors and accounting. This fall, I have recently taken an interest in law and have been wondering/considering changing my plans after graduation from getting a job and working towards my CPA to potentially trying to go to law school? Not sure if this is relevant but in high school I was involved in debate and ethics bowl and really enjoyed participating in both of those, I was just wondering since I’m still really early on in my career if this is something that I should be looking forward to or stay away from until I have settled into the industry a bit more?

Hello Everyone, I have passed my Core 1, Core 2, Assurance and Taxation this year in 1st attempt back to back. Recently i got my Taxation result and i passed it July 17 2026. Today i got an email from the CPA for Plagiarism in one of the assignment in EXCEL sheet for not using Formula and doing copy and paste for a small part of it. Now CPA gave me 1 week time to explain this before they take any action or decision.

Is there any one who knows this process and guide me through. It will be a great help.

For context I’m an audit senior at a top 10 firm. My manager has basically told me I have to use my PTO soon (I have only taken like 2 days off so far this year). While this probably seems like a good thing, I genuinely don’t have any idea of what to do during that time.

Basically I’m a single dude who’s 28 and lives by himself. My hobbies basically include working out (daily), video games, and cars. I’m not to big of a traveler either. For the last few years my life has basically been, work, study for cpa, and gym. I often feel really bored when I’m not at work, and I’m the kind of person that just wants to be busy and have stuff to do.

Just trying to see what you guys do on PTO, or have any suggestions for someone like me.

Working at one of the big national labs in the United States. They issued a credit card to me for business travel. It has my name on the card, but is paid by the finance department of my lab... I don't know how, they just handle everything. Recently they've been auditing all travel and have lost a few people in that department AND had people out on vacation. They warned staff that the cards will be showing as past due but not to worry and continue travel as normal. It's been more than 30 days past due and is quickly getting close to 60 days past due... they just issued a statement today saying "US Bank has also confirmed that its Credit Department does not report late payments to credit bureaus, so these delays will not affect your personal credit score."

Does that sound correct?? Or.... like what if it's 60 days or 90 days, will US Bank really just not care? This is stressful...

Assurance manager (Non-Big 4) here. There is a good chance that I'll be let go in a month or two. I got two bad ratings on my performance evaluations because of some mistakes that I made when I was under immense pressure at year end and having seniors that quit right before year end. I really tried and even put in 70 hours a week to have smooth audits but I just couldn't catch it all and there were few things that SM and partner caught at the last minute that caused the team to scramble. I'm just waiting on another evaluation from another SM but I don't have a good feeling because client complained to partner about some of my audit requests. I just feel like the hammer will drop any day now that I'm just so fucking anxious and want some closure.

I'm planning for my December YE clients and my heart is just pounding constantly and can't fucking focus. I got some savings and I could probably last about a year with help of severance. I also don't like audit so there likely will be some relief but I'm just so afraid that I may not find a job for 3+ years.

Any advice? Do I maximize all my benefits and start applying like a mad man now or do I just wait it out and see if I'll collect the severance / unemployment and start fresh or just continue working here?

I've been collecting data from remote accounting adjacent roles adertised in the USA. I used data from about ~10,000 jobs advertised in the last 3 months to calculate market salary averages.

I collected data directly from company ATS pages, where the job was adverised as remote.

Below are the values calculated.. because the values are based on salary values companies have listed on their own job listings, I am not sure how that affects accuracy? Maybe positions that publicly disclose salaries tend to skew higher?

If anyone here works remote, would be nice to hear your take on how these figures line up and if they match your reality?

Am 24 spoiled never worked in my life and only like to watch movies/play videogames.

I want to grow up and not be a burden anymore to my parents but at the same time I want to have time for the things I enjoy.

I know internships are everything and I need to have good grades and work on my interview skills.

Am willing to do that but my question is after I graduate and land a job hopefully will I be able to do the bare minimum? Will I have free time or i have to keep learning about the field?

Ps. I have went to a therapist, I knows it’s not normal to have no aspirations or being this lazy but the truth is virtual world is more interesting to me. I don’t need lots of money to buy a house, marry or go to vacation.

Just need a stable job to not be a burden anymore and enjoy the little time I have left in this world.

Just a random thought as I'm 3 weeks out from FAR: imagine the day - likely in a few years - where the AICPA has tests graded on the spot, so candidates will know if they pass or fail right when they're done. I doubt Prometric exam centers are ready for some of the reactions that would create (a mixed bag of crying and joy). Anybody else wonder how soon we are to this?

(22m)Long story short, I’ve Interned for this firm on three separate occasions. Once in the Summer of 25’, Winter of 25/26, and currently in my third one. Small firm, less than 20 people.I’ll be doing my MACC program from August to June of 27 but I’m scared I won’t get a return offer from my firm as I think I’ve heard them talk about me around the office. I saw that the intern-to-fulltime percentage was about 85%-90% and kinda feel like a failure if I weren’t to get a return offer. Just looking for some advice because I feel very lost right now, thanks.

I’ve heard others say the benefit of the CPA is not with your current firm but more so your next firm — you can use the CPA to negotiate for better pay at your next job. Is there any merit to this?

I have 11 years of experience with US Taxation and i specialise in Partnerships- Investment Management mostly private equity and fund of funds.

I work at a pretty small public accounting firm. It’s a super small office and my desk is sort of central next to the printer and file cabinet. My desk and monitors are just out in the open and my bosses will NOT let me switch my desk so that my back is to the wall. So currently I’m facing a wall so my monitors are super clearly visible. My co workers frequently walk by my desk and comment on what I’m working on. I also have this one boss (one of the partners)… he will just come up behind me several times a day to look at my screen. On one occasion I stepped away to speak with another partner and forgot to lock my laptop - I found him behind my seat looking over my work papers and screen. On more than one occasion there have been weird comments made about me researching a topic like “why are you looking that up when you can ask me” or “what are you using chat gpt for”. I frequently feel anxious about people looking at and judging me for whatever. Also, I don’t really use my work computer for anything personal and if it is , it’s nothing I’m scared of people seeing or anything like that.

So I’m thinking of installing privacy screens on my two monitors. Would this look weird or strange? I just can’t stand the lack of privacy particularly with my one boss. It just drives me crazy.

My husband was offered a job in Phoenix, AZ and we are planning on moving there but first I need a job over there. I have 2.5 yrs of public accounting experience at a California firm (I think its around #110 firm per Accounting Today), so not a big 4 for sure.I just took my first CPA exam (FAR) and studying for a 2nd exam (AUD).

Would that make me competitive in the Phoenix job market? Should I apply for staff or senior position?

I am currently an associate at the firm and I don't think I will get to senior prior to moving because the firm I work for (specifically the office location I am in) never gives promotions.

I have worked at my company for about 15 years, and we have grown from about $10 mil in revenue to around $100 mil. The entire time I have been the sole accountant, responsible for every single thing, including payroll, A/P, A/R, end of month closing, reporting the financials at all of the company meetings, forecasting and budgeting, literally every single thing that would fall under accounting/ finance has been my responsibility.

I have begged for the last five years to hire another accountant to be under me to share some of the responsibilities because I am drowning in the workload.

Got word today that they are hiring for a CFO, a Controller, and a Senior Accountant. I asked where that left me, and they said they would keep my title as "Accountant", but based on my past performance they wanted somebody else to fill these roles. Mind you, if my performance has been below expectations it is only because I have been doing the work of 4-5 people.

I'm not sure where to go from here, but I think it is time to jump companies.

Hi! I want to peruse in the future career in fp&a or controlling or audit and i have an option to study finance and accounting but there's only one speciality which is interesting to me, it's audit. They have a few other specialities so I'm afraid that audit may be not opened. The second option is to study accounting and controlling which have only to specialities accounting and controlling so i assume that the controlling speciality will be opened. Both of this deegres have option to take part in cima program and the first one will alow me to be exempt from exams for acca but only on speciality audit and the second one will exempt me from f1-f5 exams for acca. Honestly the subjects in the second option seems to me much more interesting but I'm afraid that employers would like to hire someone who graduated from the first one deegre.

Anyone in here work for a utility company? I just started working for one a month ago and I am struggling to understand the correlation between basis, congestion, and revenue. I’m a visual learner and my team is struggling to explain the concept. Anyone able to help out?

14 years later after accomplishing so much even achieving my dream job at a top financial firm but wanting to prioritize location during the pandemic so I had to resign and gain experience at other companies, I can’t find a job. I’m either under qualified or over qualified. I interviewed for 2 of the same type of roles one last week and one this week one being senior and the other not. The senior role I don’t have the direct experience but she said I’m great at interviews the non senior role I’m too experienced. What job can I have then?

During this time off I had some time to reflect on some of my regrets and I have made a few. I didn’t understand corporate etiquette and that’s my biggest regret. I didn’t understand how to have a mentor I didn’t know what that meant or how to do that. I always performed well at work….

Just wondering what all of ya'll are using for SOX compliance for journal support and balance support.

In our process we take snippets when we're running reports on SAP, and drop those snippets into our excel support for either a journal or balance support, then it goes to Blackline.

This process seems a bit archaic, although solid in terms of evidence.

Are ye using anything faster?

I am a first-year manager just shy of 5 years of experience, and I am coming up on the time where I should probably decide if I want to stick it out and try to make partner or plan my exit from PA. Making partner is never guaranteed and I am well aware of that, but I am set up with what I think are better odds to make it than some if I really work hard and put in the work (asked to help build a new industry in my office where we have no clients of that industry currently).

The only problem is that I know literally nothing about making partner and benefits of it. Higher up people in my office/firm are very hush hush about it all and the only thing I have really been told in the past is that its "life changing money". I know basics but I have no clue general salary range, vesting details, retirement details etc. and I would like to have a general idea of what I am working towards if I want to chase that carrot they dangle in your face in PA to not leave. Can anybody provide some general details that give some background? I am in a medium to smaller city that is probably MCOL to LCOL. Not a big 4 firm but still a top 10 PA firm.

Hi so I work at medium size public accounting firm, I just started about 2 months ago. My salary is $60,000. My plan was to start studying for my CPA exam this coming september. I recently got a call from one of my dads friends and talked to him, he asked me about an opportunity he has which is sitting under a CFO for roughly two years until he retires and then taking that position over. It feels like an opportunity I can’t miss but also just don’t know if I would have the experience for that. He knows I just graduated in May and don’t have my CPA yet but still wants me to think about it. My second thing is that my uncle also wants me to come join his financial firm where they do a great amount of business and are starting to veer out into the tax side of business too. He wants me to come be their tax guy. Any suggestions on what you would do?
