π¬ DISCUSSION Do a lot of people resit year 13?
This year maths seemed pretty brutal. And so did a lot of other exams. Looking online, there seems like quite a large contingent of people who are nervous that they wonβt get into their firm. I understand this happens every year, but do a lot of people actually end up resitting? Because if you have an offer from Oxford, you see people online talking about how they might let you in if you miss a grade, or if your a couple marks off an explain they might allow you. But at the end of the day you realise itβs actually just unlikely. If you donβt get the grades, even by 1 mark, thatβs just it. There isnβt any oh well you tried we will have you. So for people who donβt have an insurance, or donβt want to go to it, what choice do you even have other than resit?
My issue is I wonβt even get into clearing anywhere. If I miss my A*AB offer at ucl and get AAB, there arenβt any good unis that offer AAB clearing so Iβm stuffed. I canβt even do clearing

OTHER Anyone else in agonising pain after the MenB vaccine?
I posted about this on the UKUni subreddit and thought people on here might be going through the same thing because I want answers! Iβm 19 and on a gap year so had to go to about 6 pharmacies before finding one that would give it to me. Did it. It was a tiny scratch like all vaccines, thought Iβd feel a bit tired or have a headache, instead my arm has been HURTING every single time I move. Itβs not like a tiny ache either, itβs the sort of pain that makes me feel physically ill. Is anyone else going through this? I feel slightly crazy but doing anything today has been torture because my arm hurts so bad when I move any other part of my body. If this is normal for this vaccine, how long did it last?
Edited to say that I donβt regret getting it and everyone should get it because a little pain now is so much better than the horrors of meningitis!

π¬ DISCUSSION You donβt have to do a levels
A levels are a choice. You should only really do them, if you know that youβll genuinely revise. If not youll end up regretting everything and when results day comes, you will see that you just about passed or failed your subjects.

π UNI / UCAS Is it worth applying to oxbridge next year with my stats?
I'm kinda considering a gap year because I've decided I don't really want to settle for less than the best without trying (For maths/physics), is it worth it?
GCSEs: 888775555 (8s are in maths and combined science). I get the average GCSE's are much higher and this is my main concern with applying and why I think it's risky
A level's: A*A*A (Maths Physics Chemistry), I know I need further maths to apply for maths, but I'd be taking it in a gap year (I've already self studied the whole spec and getting A* in past papers so its looking good)
As for supercurriculars I have a few under my belt but nothing like gold IMOs or anything like that so i'm not quite sure, but in a gap year i can fix that

π I WANT HELP Are my a levels ok ππ
Basically Iβm taking biology, English lit and psychology plus an EPQ for a level. Im mainly worried about my options being limited by my lack of math/chemistry (a lot of bio related degrees need chemistry from what I know), cause j genuinely HATE those two subjects and I REALLY REALLY donβt wanna do them. And now my brothers made me unsure cause he basically called English lit and psych useless subjects ππ
Please help ππ

π¬ DISCUSSION JZ Mocks for TMUA
I can only get usually 13-15/20 on each paper within 75 minutes... How good/bad is this and are the JZ mocks on a similar difficulty level as the TMUA papers from 2024 and 2025?

π UNI / UCAS torn between student bank accounts
hi, starting uni in september and decided its probably time to think about what bank i want to go with, i'm going to a long distance uni regardless of which choice i end up with so the railcard with santander is appealing to me, but i'm only really going to be saving Β£80 + however much the 1 year railcard will be when i'm starting my 4th year so is that really worthwhile?? nationwide is also appealing to me but idk im just really torn between everything

π I WANT HELP Medicine advices
Hi guys I am a y12 student currently studying maths bio chem in a grammar school. I want to apply for medicine but I am very nervous about whether I would be able to get into medicine at all.
My current choices are ucl imperial kings and bristol
and my predicteds are A*A*A with A in chem.
I have done 3 work experience in hospital and did two independent research, and I am planning to read some books about medicine( pls give recommendations if theres any). I am sitting ucat in start of September and score is around 2000-2200 ish.
Is this enough for medicine application and would the A in chem hinder a lot. My GCSEs were decent with 10 9s and 2 7s. I really appreciate any advices and hopefully get some advices for application.

π UNI / UCAS Essay competitions for Oxford
Due to a few personal reasons, I've not been able to complete my submission for the Julia Wood History Essay Competition, and I was just wondering if anyone knows if Oxford views doing non-affiliated essay competitions with the same weight as doing one ran by their own colleges.
I'm hoping to submit my entry to an essay competition that isn't affiliated with the university, but I'm worried that it might look a bit less prestigious on a personal statement. Is this the case?

π I WANT HELP Is Fast Tracking BTEC Courses Possible?
Is it possible to fast track a Pearson BTEC Business course? Iβve been thinking for a while about switching from A Levels to a BTEC next year, depending on my A Level results and whether fast tracking is an option. Iβve done the first year (AS) of A Level Business, so Iβm hoping that might give me somewhat of an advantage :β)

π UNI / UCAS LSE Economics and Maths
I'm a year 12 student (going into year 13) and I was thinking of applying to LSE economics and maths instead of pure economics. I have 3 A*s/A stars predicted in Maths, Economics and Chemistry and an A in Further Maths. My GCSEs, although not great (9999888775) were the best in my school's cohort and I meet the mandatory 6 in Maths and English language (9s in both). My question is, how much harder is it to get into Maths and economics than just pure economics with an A in Further maths or should I just stick with applying to pure economics?

π UNI / UCAS top universities that accept resit for maths?
in a weird situation but basically i messed up last math paper and it has me stressing, and a* is looking 50/50. my other subjects are fm and compsci and i think i got A* and A*/A in them respectivley. I am also prepping for TMUA again i sat last year and did pretty well. Is there a chance i will be accepted into top unis such as oxbridge, imperial, etc if i resit maths + i can replicate a high tmua score?
ideally i need a*/a*/a with a*s in maths and fm but the a* in math is kinda shaky. I really dont want to resit just the thought of doing a levels again is killing me and it is quite difficult to enjoy my summer :/
on a side note - I have looked at LSE's financial math and stats course which requires A*AA with an A* in math but would an A* in fm suffice?
any advice/help would be much appreciated.
edit: I am applying for maths
