πŸ™ I WANT HELP Between now and yr13 can I go from U to C/B in maths?

bit of a long story but in mocks I was extremely up and down and got ADU,

A in geography (which I probably consider the easiest),

D in chem (a lot of mistakes and bad exam technique that I will correct with enough past papers and recall over summer)

U in maths which I've spent a lot of time analysing (3 marks off an E) which is why I made the post

I concluded it's down to a mix of silly mistakes and misreading the question, although for the most part nothing points to a genuine lack of knowledge according to my tutor and Gemini which I used to check a lot of my answers outside of study time.

*Doesn't help that I barely had time to consolidate logs and pulley diagrams which were a huge part of the papers, and I think I didn't revise anywhere as much as I thought I did and kept peeking at mark schemes which is a habit I've had for a while. Doesn't excuse it but it is a reason*

The plan I came up with a few weeks ago is basically as follows:

Use Zeeshan/Bicen to fill gaps where needed Full summary for a topic including mathematical links and why the maths actually works

Test knowledge with between 5 and 10 mixed exercise questions dependent on how much there is to cover and my skill level

Rinse and repeat to chapter 14 and applied

The main bit of exam practice I'll do is:

C1 and C2/before 2017 papers (to test the maths itself and improve speed and accuracy at the same time)

2018 papers onwards (to deal with the confusing questions on stuff like modelling and when it doesn't hold your hand as much I guess)

Spend about 1hr 30 mins a day during summer and increase the time if needed

My honest plan is to try and get C in maths on the September resit and I'm already a somewhat decent way in with this plan I made. Am I cooked or do I have a genuine chance?

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Grade boundaries for past papers (edexcel)

Hello i am a student whos exams were cancelled and we had to do mocks which consisted of random past papers which would then count as our actual grades so the question here is what grade boundaries will they use to mark us and how will they give us a grade, will it be the same grade boundaries for the session of that specific past paper or how will edexcel do it exactly because this question doesnt make me sleep and i always think about it, if anyone has any info regarding my case please share it.

Thanks

πŸ’¬ DISCUSSION You don’t have to do a levels

A levels are a choice. You should only really do them, if you know that you’ll genuinely revise. If not youll end up regretting everything and when results day comes, you will see that you just about passed or failed your subjects.

OTHER Anyone else in agonising pain after the MenB vaccine?

I posted about this on the UKUni subreddit and thought people on here might be going through the same thing because I want answers! I’m 19 and on a gap year so had to go to about 6 pharmacies before finding one that would give it to me. Did it. It was a tiny scratch like all vaccines, thought I’d feel a bit tired or have a headache, instead my arm has been HURTING every single time I move. It’s not like a tiny ache either, it’s the sort of pain that makes me feel physically ill. Is anyone else going through this? I feel slightly crazy but doing anything today has been torture because my arm hurts so bad when I move any other part of my body. If this is normal for this vaccine, how long did it last?

Edited to say that I don’t regret getting it and everyone should get it because a little pain now is so much better than the horrors of meningitis!

πŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS Is it worth applying to oxbridge next year with my stats?

I'm kinda considering a gap year because I've decided I don't really want to settle for less than the best without trying (For maths/physics), is it worth it?

GCSEs: 888775555 (8s are in maths and combined science). I get the average GCSE's are much higher and this is my main concern with applying and why I think it's risky

A level's: A*A*A (Maths Physics Chemistry), I know I need further maths to apply for maths, but I'd be taking it in a gap year (I've already self studied the whole spec and getting A* in past papers so its looking good)

As for supercurriculars I have a few under my belt but nothing like gold IMOs or anything like that so i'm not quite sure, but in a gap year i can fix that

OTHER oxford biochemistry interview prep

I’ll keep it brief:
- Just finished first year at oxford biochemistry ranking 4th in the year out of ~100
- I helped one oxford biochemistry applicant last year who successfully got an offer
- I got in for biomed then switched to biochemistry, so I can help for:
- Oxford Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences
- Cambridge Biological Natural Sciences (chemistry and biology interviews)
- DM if interested

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Are my a levels ok πŸ’”πŸ’”

Basically I’m taking biology, English lit and psychology plus an EPQ for a level. Im mainly worried about my options being limited by my lack of math/chemistry (a lot of bio related degrees need chemistry from what I know), cause j genuinely HATE those two subjects and I REALLY REALLY don’t wanna do them. And now my brothers made me unsure cause he basically called English lit and psych useless subjects πŸ’”πŸ’”
Please help 😞😞

πŸ’¬ DISCUSSION Do a lot of people resit year 13?

This year maths seemed pretty brutal. And so did a lot of other exams. Looking online, there seems like quite a large contingent of people who are nervous that they won’t get into their firm. I understand this happens every year, but do a lot of people actually end up resitting? Because if you have an offer from Oxford, you see people online talking about how they might let you in if you miss a grade, or if your a couple marks off an explain they might allow you. But at the end of the day you realise it’s actually just unlikely. If you don’t get the grades, even by 1 mark, that’s just it. There isn’t any oh well you tried we will have you. So for people who don’t have an insurance, or don’t want to go to it, what choice do you even have other than resit?

My issue is I won’t even get into clearing anywhere. If I miss my A*AB offer at ucl and get AAB, there aren’t any good unis that offer AAB clearing so I’m stuffed. I can’t even do clearing

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Warwick A&F or continue working and studying (AAT & ACCA)

Hello all,

Accepted an offer to go Warwick this Sept for A&F. I completed my a levels in 2024 so that means I have been on a "gap year" for two years now. I have been working and saved enough money to fully fund my university education (well almost anyways)

In that time, I worked as a barista then in a family accountancy firm whilst studying for my accountancy qualification (AAT Level 4) and I am now fully qualified. Now I work for Sainsburys (headquarters not in store) in an admin role and I have been struggling to find any role in the finance world whether that be accountancy or financial analyst or whatever.

Ideally I would want to continue working towards my next level of qualifications which would be the ACCA but again can't seem to find anything.

Another part of me is also a bit sadden by missing out on the uni experience, I have been working and studying for the past 2 years and slowly getting sick of it but if I have to continue then I will.

What should I do in this situation? Continue applying for roles and see if I can get anything or go to university and hopefully enter a grad scheme at the end of it? Or even pivot into another field like high finance or consulting?

TL:DR Go to uni for A&F or continue working as an AAT accountant and continue struggling to find a role

All TMUA slots in the centres remotely close to me are fully booked. Can we expect to see more slots come out and if so, when?

And did they add more slots last year?

I can only get usually 13-15/20 on each paper within 75 minutes... How good/bad is this and are the JZ mocks on a similar difficulty level as the TMUA papers from 2024 and 2025?

πŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS medicine apply this year or next?

Hi all,

I wanted to ask for advice on whether I should still apply for medicine. For context ive been struggling alot with my mental health this year and y predicted grades arent as good as they should be and even if I do get teachers to inflate them it will be A*AA at max and ik people apply with like 6 A*s predicted. To make up for it I do have really high GCSEs 9999999999 and im hoping to get a really high ucat mocks looking like 2420+band 1. I was wondering If I should still apply to the top unis like imperial, ucl, kings, Bristol, Cardiff or manchester this year or take a gap year wait for my real grades which If I lock in I think I can get A*A*A in bio chem and English literature and then apply?
