Being a teenager is way better than being a young adult
I'm 19 and even though numerically I'm still a teenager your teen years practically end at 18 from a systemic/social standpoint, like I hate being a young adult this shit is ass, when you're a teenager (13-17) you have a strong support system as well as mentors and role models that you can go to whenever you need, you also have community and sense of belonging (schools, summer camps, youth clubs etc) making friends as a teen is easy and natural because you have a lot of social outlets, but there's no equivalent communal structures for young adults except maybe university but the problem with that is it's behind a big stupid ass paywall which prevents alot from being able to go, and if you're not privileged enough to go to uni then you're pretty much gonna be lonely and have a very difficult time making friends and finding a sense of community. your only option is really your coworkers at your job and most of the time they don't want to be your friend or get to know you they're just there to get their check and leave. It's just like once you turn 18 all of the things that made you feel human just immediately disappear. no safety nets, no community, nothing it's just you and only you. I'll do anything to go back to life before 18 because this ain't it.

Discussion do you guys judge others by what phone they have ?
i’m wondering if this is actually a thing that people get judged for , me personally i did have an android growing up and i only got the current phone i had which is an red iphone 13 for my birthday in 2023 and it is a literal HULK and works so incredibly well . however i don’t know if i would be judged for not having a iphone 17 in 2026 . do you guys judge people based off the model of phone or brand ? just asking for honest opinions .

Discussion Freedom
Are we all struggling to live our lives with the amount of freedom we want? Or am I just alone in this struggle?
I'm 22 (F) and still live at home. I have minimal friends, I'm a single closeted lesbian, and am a medically complex person (4 major health conditions, 10+ daily medications, medically suspended license, etc.).
My family members have ALWAYS been protective of me and as a child it was annoying, as a teen it didn't matter so much/i got used to it, but now as a young adult I'm struggling to have the level of freedom I want while simultaneously working around my family members' rules/opinions/protective tendencies/etc.
Nonetheless, I feel like I've been missing out on all the typical teenage/young adult experiences that almost seem like a "right of passage" for people and I'm not sure if it's because I still live at home, because I have lots of health conditions, maybe a mix of both, or for a totally different reason.
For example: I've never been to a party that wasn't hosted by my own household or my highschool. I've never drank alcohol, never smoked/vaped, never been to a bar or club, I don't have any tattoos or piercings (other than my 1st ear holes that I got done when I was young because it was the early 2000s and piercing a baby was still legally allowed)
I will admit that I spent my childhood, teen years, and so far all of my young adulthood being someone who hides her thoughts/emotions/feelings but i was never someone who snuck out of the house, did stuff behind my family's back, etc. because I grew up FULLY KNOWING that if I did any of that "reckless behavior", I would be in lots of trouble; I wasn't even allowed to swear until I turned 20! And tbh I'm not saying that's what I want to do now, but the way I act when I'm with my friends/when no adults are around is the way I wish I could be 24/7. So I guess I'm basically asking "how did we all start being confident enough to actually ask for things/ask to do things?" Or are we just all sneaking around and keeping secrets?

Advice I want to make it work/ could it?
I've been seeing for seven months. After getting to know each other a bit (a litter a month he asked me what I wanted out of us talking because he wanted something serious, I let him know that I was open to that. Throughout this time I felt that he wasn't really sharing his emotions (as in opening up more, he did, he let me know that he feels a bit vulnerable with me because he sees me as a good pure person, which is not my fault (obviously). We talked about and he said he'd try to be more open. A month later he asked me out. Everything was going great between us but his mental health started to decline after losing a friend to his (he felt as if though it was his fault because he hung up the phone too quickly). A couple a months later he became a bit distant, we were still talking and seeing each other but not as much. There are times that he would get drunk sometimes and text me saying that he wishes that he was better so that he could truly be with me, he wants to be a good man for me but he doesn't see himself as that man right now and that he wishes he could be there for me and that he's trying and really loves me (this hurt my feelings because he's hurting and stuff), he wants to be a better son, etc. He let me know that he was struggling with his mental health. Eventually we had sex and every now and then we would have sex (we've only had sex a handful of times). A few months ago he tried to commit. We were talking as normal and seeing each other, he even started therapy after my encouragement. A month later he lets me know that he needed a bit of space and that he'd be texting me periodically because he really wants to focus on his mental health, he was thinking about going on mental health retreats, rehab, etc.
He would text me every week asking how I am and stuff (just checking up), at some point he would then ask me for sex these times he would text where I would tell him no. I ended up telling him to no longer ask me because it felt messed up because we're technically on a break, he respected that. When talking throughout those times I would ask him like what are we doing because these few times he asks for sex makes me feel that's all he want me for, he would tell me that's not the case and he didn't realize that's how it seemed and that's he's sorry.
During those check ups I would tell him that my feelings are hurt because he texts me and then randomly stops. I ask him if he even wants a relationship, etc. He says he does want a relationship but to talk about the other things I send are a bit overwhelming right now but he hears what I'm saying. This is what happens a few times. I'm constantly sad after he talking to him because it only lasts a few days before he stops replying or texting.
This time I was sad because I want to talk to him more of course. And I ended up having sex with someone else, l cried and cried when I got home, I showered and tried to scrub him off of me because I just felt so guilty.
I really do love him but it's like how could I even say that after sleeping with someone else.
I'd like to make it work this guy, any advice? Please don't be rude and mean. If you need more info lmk and if you have any questions lmk
(I've been on other threads and everyone tells me that I feel this way because I really like and care for this guy but we aren't together and he obviously doesn't care about me and just wants sex:/ also have been told that I’m trying help him with his mental health but I’m not I’m giving him his space but I never put context of our relationship in the other threads and wanted to do it now even if I get the same response, I get it.)

Are my Standards too high?
I saw a post of somebody finding out their standards were too high, and then decided to give the same test a try. Somehow mine are too?! Like I put “yes” on obese because I know men with chunk and muscle are also considered obese, but seriously? It’s that few?
Edit: I also put 0 income b/c I know most ppl in my age range are in college/seasonal workers while in college.
However after reading your replies, yeah I need to up my standards with money. But at the same time, ill also see if they're a student or not. But still, it's nice to know that my standards arent too high at all :).

Rant Flop my eaxms agine this year too. Hah.
Feel so fucking bad. Had 8 exams i had to take for the score to use to get into medical school. First try at the end of high-school? Kind of okayish, okayish but not enough for the big ass dream i decided on. it is whatever. Try agine the next year, guess what FLOP IT TOO!
did make process, 60% overall but i need 65% for even the lowest for medical state University ahhhhhhh. This suck so bad. I wasting timeeeeee. Could had be a second year nurse school on the top 3 school rn. Could be a second year medtech rn. Or second year study Radiology!
But no, i am here agine, on my painfully lazy ass. Yanking myself through yet another year of painful study on 7 different subjects and get yelled at by my mother everyday because she said all i do is lay about and on my phone reading fanfictions.
Next year will be my thrid tried and probably the last one. If i don't get it then i had to go for plan B. How embarrassing. What would i say to ppl who i told i will get in med school but instead 2 year later i am not? That would be so embarrassing and a proff that i am not as smart as i think i am. And if i am not as smart as i think i am then what does it make me?
Had anyone take more time getting in Uni than your peer? Who are you now? I am currently losing my mind.

Serious 18, don't own a laptop, starting university soon, and I'm scared I'm already behind in life
I'm 18, and I don't own a laptop or an iPad. Honestly, it's embarrassing because almost everyone around me has one. Sometimes I don't even want to admit it.
The reason is simple: my family can't afford one right now. I'm hoping I'll finally get a laptop when I start university next year, but there's no guarantee.
The last laptop I had was years ago when I was a kid. It was a very low-end laptop that stopped working pretty quickly. I mainly used it to play games, type assignments in Microsoft Word because school required it, and watch some YouTube videos. I've also used my cousins' laptops a few times, but that's about it.
What scares me the most is my future. I see people my age who are already comfortable using computers, while I've mostly had to rely on my phone. I'm worried that when it's time to get a job, I'll struggle because I don't have much experience with PCs.
Some people have been kind about it, but others have acted shocked or even mocked me for not owning a laptop. It makes me feel ashamed, and sometimes I don't even want to make new friends because I'm afraid of being judged.
So I wanted to ask: has anyone else been in a similar situation? If you didn't grow up with a laptop, were you able to catch up once you got one? Is it really that hard to learn computer skills later, or am I overthinking it?
I know this might sound like a small problem to some people, but it genuinely keeps me up at night. I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've been through something similar.

Discussion Suggestions?
Hey, I won't go into much detailed nonsense/rant but I used to believe I have a good range for reading which was me being oblivious, or so my wishful thinking, in short I'd love for a few suggestions for 'not-so-common' books if I may phrase it that way, but basically new stuff to go through (I want to actively try reading across genres that I normally don't,) so if there's someone out there who'd help me through that or even 'guide' if that's the right term for it, i'd love to discuss and read and get your perspective on it
(Comment or dm, either way just want someone to tell me how to restart. )
Cheers!

Today i turned 20, so im an young adult now? This all feels very weird and a feeling of never getting your teenage back is hitting me. Is it okay to feel like this? As an adult im not even financially independent. My parents still practice over parenting with me. Anyways wish me luck :)

all my friends are grown adults and i’m freshly 18
18F but i just turned 18 a few weeks ago
i don’t know if this is normal but i never made friends in high school after moving my junior year. i tried but i really struggled & couldn’t connect w kids my age. i thought maybe i was an introvert or had a socializing problem idk. but i actually have zero social anxiety and can easily carry a conversation.
i worked many different jobs throughout senior year and i always found my self gravitating towards older people. i hangout w my coworkers a lot between the ages of 19-25. i also enjoy talking to my other coworkers that are in their 30, 40, 50+. one of my coworkers im close w is literally my classmates mom lmfao.
is this normal is there something wrong w me idfk

Advice College student home for summer… is this hell?
Basically what the title says, I’m home from school for the summer. I live in suburbia, and I wasn’t able to get a job this summer due to scheduling restraints (I had a short term internship early on that made my availability too short for a whole new job). However, basically all my friends and boyfriend either live in their college town for the summer, are fully employed, or are busy chudding it with their boyfriends. I have always been someone who struggles without any like tangible goals or passions, but I just can’t even think of a hobby I’m motivated to do. During the school year I’m way too busy for most hobbies, I just gym, school, work and sleep plus hanging with friends every chance I get. Though I love the grind, I remember yearning for more free time. And now all I do is go to the gym most days, work on homework for an online summer school class, and hangout with people when I can. Most days end up feeling like I’m sitting around until 5pm when everyone gets off work to beg them to hangout, and my happiness hinges on them sparing me some time. Is just getting into a new hobby enough to make me happy? Or should I focus on learning how to be alone? I’m desperate for advice. My screen time is getting scary and my brain is melting.
