Just built this Darkrock up for a small bikepacking trip. Just finished the first couple days, and I’m pretty stocked about the quality to price ratio.

Some of the specs:

Mavic crossride fts-x 26” wheelset
Tempi klunkerbar
Shimano Deore xt brakes and deore 2x10 groupset
Maxxis rossmark ii tires
MKS Allways pedals
Brooks b68 saddle and framebag
Pelago front rasket

Stolen X-Bike! 1991 Specialized Hardrock (taken 7/20 in NYC)

Post image
62 Upvotes

Hi all - I already posted in NYC bike, but hoping the wider x-biking community can help (my hopes are low, but it's also one last chance to post this build I'm really proud of here). The bike was taken from my apartment building on July 20th. I'm keeping an eye on FB Marketplace, Craigslist, etc., but in case any of you see it online or in the wild, please reach out.

I couldn't have built this bike without this community, so thank you again.

Abbreviated build list/identifying features:

  • Wald Basket (Huge)
  • Microshift Advent X
  • Velo Orange Fenders
  • Swytch Kit e-bike conversion kit

Vintage Diamondback Ascent Ex (wipes drool from keyboard)

I have a penchant, weakness, character flaw, personality disorder level of love for old Diamondbacks. Like how did they make bikes this cool and why did they ever stop?

This one is one of my all time faves that I passed on to another loving home.

It took a long time to find the tires, which are Kenda Kobra tires for wheelchairs. The Ultradynamicos were too rich for my blood, so I picked these up for $35/each. They ride great!

Full Deore LX and goofy grip shifters for that period correct lewk

Why buy it for $35 when you could build it for $25 and 5 hours of time 🤣🤣. The full video is not out yet, but it will be in a couple days once I put some miles on the "Bicentennial Man" bike. Hope you guys enjoy! I thought it was pretty clever. Very rebuildable with the bronze bushings. This thing should pretty much last a lifetime except for the rubber bushings. The ones I got from Ace are a tad too soft, I wind up using a shock absorber bushing from an old car. The shock absorber bushings are available brand new from O'Reilly's for about $1.50 a piece.

Fork looks too big?

Thumbnail

I'm building up an old marin frame. I bought a surly troll 26" fork on eBay but it looks massive and has loads of clearance over the tire. Have I been sold the wrong size of fork or is this just how it looks?

(The bars are stacked so high because I haven't got round to cutting the steerer tube yet)

Cheers!

1997(?) Riese&Müller Birdy

Just got my hands on this vintage folding bike, and it ticks a lot of boxes for my xbiking brain:
✅ Cool color scheme
✅ Small wheels (18”)
✅ Wild frame design
✅ All-Terrain (Full suspension)

It’s not cargo hauler or a bikepacking machine… yet. 😄
From what I’ve seen, there’s quite an active Birdy community in Taiwan and Japan. Is anybody from that community around here?

I’d like to find out the manufacturing year of this bike and get some recommendations on how to fit 18” Schwalbe Billy Bonkers tires. (As far as I know, that’s another prerequisite for turning it into a proper xbike.)

First Build - Trek 800

Hi!

This is my first build after observing from afar, just wanted something to pop back and for from work, shops etc to stop using the car as much.

Original bike was £25 from eBay so can’t fault it I think
1993 trek antelope 800

Try to keep it reasonable but it’s my only bike so enjoyed some parts.

Any questions or criticisms I want them all!

I’m also in the process of a bike for my partner so that will follow at some point

Photography bike build

My routine is usually to go downtown and take photos on my lunch break, and I want to get on my bike more often, so I built up a photography adventure bike. All parts used are leftover from other projects or original. It’s pretty slow, but it’s functional and fun!

I'm 5'11 and it feels like a medium sized frame. Would love to keep original slingshot stem but if a longer one would make better sense I might consider changing it. Looking for any expert suggestions on fit. Would mostly be a city commuter

Everything works and it is ready to ride. It has grip shifters and shimano parts but it just says Shimano A on the derailleur. I don’t know much about bikes other than the frame size does fit from what I’ve looked at online.

Comes along with a hand pump, bike lock, front and back tubes, an helmet and 3 small bags.

Long time Xbiker first time poster, introducing, Joséphine!

Joséphine has a interesting story, I bought her off a guy for 25$ and the guy said it was a Peugeot and that's what I ran with, I got her, and started testing parts to only realize that it was 27" and not 700c like i thought. this was a double edged sword though, because now i get to run these 35c Panaracer gravel kings! the other edge of the sword though was that I had to run brake extensions to fit the front brake but it ended up working out.

Specs
70s? 80s? Peugeot? Steel frame, completely unlabel besides a made is france sticker, and her pretty chrome fork
Groupset is Shimano 105 5600,
FC-5600, RD-5600-SS, CS-5600, BR-5600
Mavic Aksiums front and rear with Panaracer Gravelking SS
The Front Derailleur is a cheap Shimano one that came with the bike.
Dia-compe unlabeled non aero levers.
The shifters are Suntour Accushift, in friction mode.

2x10!

Shes's a demon on the San Diego trails!

My first build

I’d never done more than changing pedals and tubes before so this was a good learning experience! I tried to keep things to a budget so used quite a few Amazon parts. I was lucky to pick the saddle up from vinted for cheap. The handlebars are renthal moto bars that I already had laying around. I’d like to change out the drive train eventually and add a front rack. Still got lots to learn!

xbiking sizing - does this look like it fits?

Thumbnail

Picked up this villiger kiowa mountain arrow yesterday. Apparently an 18" frame.

I am around 174cm / 5ft 8.50 in. Do you think it fits okay?

The bike feels pretty good. I'm definitely sitting more forward than I would like, but I know this is usually the case with 90s mtb.

I feel like I would like the handlebars a little higher, and maybe some sweep. Something like the velo orange quill stem + VO granola / tourist bars. Would that get me where I want to be?
