I'm 18, and have grown up on a lot of RPG and FPS games, but my all time favorites are BOTW, Elden Ring, and Skyrim (and Minecraft but that's in its own realm).
Naturally, (or maybe not seeing as nobody my age seems to be as intrigued by WOW as I am) I have for a long time been wanting to play this game, I always have seen it as this holy grail of video games, but I feel like I wont have the experience with it that I am hoping for, so I thought I might as well ask.
Before I ask any questions though, I wanna say that I have tried a couple of MMO's (including classic WOW about a year ago, got to level 26-27) such as Albion online, and a bit of OSRS. What I'm looking for is a game where I can focus on improving my character or getting really rich. I love long grinds for some reason as well. The only problem it seems when it comes to MMOs is the fact that everybody I know in game is 10-30 years older than me. Don't get me wrong, they have always been really chill, and nobody has ever been mean, but I find it hard to relate to people older than me, and it feels sort of isolating.
My main question is; do Gen Z guilds even exist, or are all the secret Gen Z players hiding in different guilds, or maybe just playing with family? It would be nice to play with people my age, as when it comes to humor I can relate in that sense. I could dive further into the details of why I want to play with people my age but you get the idea.
I was a part of a guild when I played Albion, and the dudes I played with where between age 25-50 and I was like 16 at the time, so I didn't last very long as I didn't feel comfortable within the group dynamic, and ended up quitting the game.
My second question is; what version of WOW should I play? I've tried classic, mainly because I hate the idea of everyone having the ability to cover their hard earned gear with cosmetics (I think I heard this somewhere), and retail in general just sounds really overwhelming. I imagine retail being sorta like this vast futuristic city, but at foundation is an ancient roman city (sorta like Coruscant from Star Wars), and you'll have to really dig to find anything old (if that makes sense), everything on top being made to hide what is underneath, rather than incorporating it. The idea of 21 years of content also is overwhelming. I've seen ads about the housing system and that seems really cool though, I'm creative so I like building houses and shit, the hideout system in POE2 was fire.
I understand that a core fundamental of the game is group content, especially in the endgame, so I am not looking to be solo necessarily, it sounds kind of lonely to be solo in this grand MMO.
Thanks for answering my questions, and if you guys have any I'll definitely answer.
