Hello, I am starting the Bachelor of Advanced Computing this semester with majors in Computer Science (Engineering) and Econometrics.
The default CUSP plan has me taking:
However, Sydney Student also lets me enrol in MATH1061 this semester.
A couple of questions:
Has anyone done (or is doing) this combination of majors? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

are lectures mandatory? was the unit really hard? Getting anxiety looking at the course outline lol. there are no tutes and it’s looking like 4 hours of straight torment. looking for insight really hoping I can watch the lectures online instead of going all the way to uni

I know there a lot of posts regarding the social life in usyd and I’ve stalked this sub Reddit hard and that’s why I wanted to make a niche post for all my questions.
I’m an international student from India and I got in for Ms cs advanced entry feb 27 intake.
I was super excited and really wanted usyd because it is ranked high, and number 1 in aud for computer science especially plus the campus is beautiful and I feel like aus is better than my other options (I got in Russell group unis (not Oxbridge) and John Hopkins in USA) in terms of quality of life and immigration. But this sub has slightly changed my mind. This is extremely expensive I am also getting a 12k pound scholarship in a Russel group uni and that’s why I’m contemplating bad. I don’t mind the social aspect I am not that social myself but I mean I wouldn’t want to be lonely af. But besides the social life and syd expenses is the degree really worth it? I was also considering monash and UNSW. I just want to know that does it really matter? Whether I graduate from USYD or any other Australian uni? If everything comes down to my networking and grades then does the uni I get my degree from play a role with employers?

Hello so I moved to Sydney few days ago and happened to be staying in scape usyd. One word to put it, fucking disgusting. I have fruit fly trying to bust into my room because there is a rotten orange in a fucking fridge and kitchen is to the point where its beyond cleanable. I didn't talk to people next door as I came in not too long, but I think they are not using it.
So I was thinking to buy microwave or a little fridge inside my room, is that allowed?

Hi All!
I am just intrigued to understand the process of obtaining a place in the Master of OT next year. My GPA is currently sitting at 5.35, however I had received all distinctions last semester. Will they look at the marks during the semester's as well? I have also been working in an OT clinic for the past year and a bit, as an assistant - will this be heavily looked upon and taken into consideration? I am worried by GPA is too low to apply. Thankyou!

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping to apply for a Semester 2 exchange in France next year and would love to hear from anyone who has been on exchange to France, particularly to Sciences Po Paris, NYU Paris or Jean Moulin Lyon 3.
If you've been to any of these universities, I'd love to know:
I also have a question about study load:
The exchange pages list 30 ECTS as equivalent to 24cp at USYD, but describe this as an indicative full-time load. Sciences Po's exchange information also says that students not completing the certificate can enrol in between 5 and 30 ECTS, subject to their home university's requirements.
Has anyone successfully completed an exchange with an approved reduced study load (for example, 18cp instead of 24cp; so taking 24 ECTS instead of 30 ECTS)? If so, how did that process work?
I'd really appreciate any advice or experiences. Thanks!

So one of my units for this coming semester was created on canvas and they added all the assignments, the weekly schedule, and the unit description. It’s a Visual Arts practical unit.
It’s all written with ChatGPT. The second I saw the unit description I immediately realised it was complete AI Slop. There’s bolded phrases, random emojis at the beginning of each paragraph, the use of “it’s not just a ____, it’s a ____” about ten times, etc.
They couldn’t even write the weekly outline that is A COUPLE OF SENTENCES themselves. They probably used more words writing the fkn prompt for it.
It upsets me that USYD poses itself to be so anti-AI yet actual academics that coordinate these units are using it themselves.

Hello I am doing an embedded honours so i'm starting an honours unit this semster and was wondering if it counts towards WAm as there is weighted tasks, i am also wondering if it is hard to achieve a HD in honours s i am trying to get onto deans list and don't want it too be a WAM destroyer

if i've taken data1001 in bsc, then transfer to bcom, do i need to take buss1020? data1001 is on the exclusion list for buss1020, however, the website says that data1001 can only be used if you are taking the major through s table or doing a combined degree with bcom. i think buss1020 is also a degree core.
thanks!

I was just speaking to a friend who received a 75.4 WAM in her first year of the Bachelor of Arts and Advanced Studies and has now successfully transferred into the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws.
I had read so many Reddit posts claiming that without an 85 WAM, transferring wouldn’t be possible.
Well… she had a 75.4 WAM.

hi! i'm really stressed about this unit and would like to ask people who took this unit in sem 1 2026 about what the final exam was like? is it more similar to the sample exams or tutorial questions? i know the general overview of topics from the unit outline however i would like to know about the kinds of questions which i actually need to be prepared to solve in the final exam in order to pass. if possible i would like to know from others most recent experience with this unit specifically about the distribution of topics and the weightage like which topics from stats and calc were tested more on the final exam more than others, or which topics were not as important for the final exam please? feel free to pm :))

basically what the title says. I need an undergrad degree to maximise my wam/gpa. I know it’s difficult to make an objective conclusion, but any thoughts?

Hi all,
Are the blood tests required for clinical placement compliance bulk billed? (Ie, the tests themselves, not the gp service). Appreciate if someone can share their experience.

Hitting my lowest of lowest point, four RE waiting for me next week that I couldn’t prepare anything for. I really can’t go on. I am about to fail four classes (plus an OLET) because of my mental health. What are you supposed to do when your parents pay 24k$ every semester for this? What am I supposed to do if I drop out?
And I am seeking help, have medicated ADHD, and an international student in my second year.

Hi everyone, I’m currently a Y11 student and I'm hoping to become a research geneticist in the future. But i'm struggling trying to figure out which undergraduate degree at USyd would give me the best foundation. I will most likely do a masters degree afterwards.
I've been looking at the Bachelor of Science and different majors, but I'm still unsure. USyd also offers Genetics and Genomics as a major across several science degrees.
I'd really appreciate any advice from current students, graduates, or anyone who's gone down this path. Thanks!

Hey r/usyd,
I am doing master of computer science (first semester)
I'm trying to gauge the workload before I finalize my choices. Could anyone share their experiences regarding the difficulty level (e.g., how student-friendly they are, assignment structures, general workload) for the following units?
COMP5216: Mobile Computing
COMP5313: Large Scale Networks
COMP5416: Advanced Network Technologies
COMP5426: Parallel and Distributed Computing

Is there any way to see what wam is required for an internal transfer?
I’m a bcomm student and I might transfer into bcomm/arts after next sem (my ATAR w/o the extra points is not high enough). I currently have a 82 wam, if I keep up similar results will I be competitive enough to transfer into Bcomm/arts? Thanks!
