If my lecture for one of my subjects says 'lecture online for weeks 1,5,13' and every other week its pre-recorded what do I do because I'm working during that time that they have the lectures online. has anyone been in this situation before?

Hi everyone,

I'm considering transferring to the University of Wollongong Dubai and I'm looking at the Mechatronic Engineering program.

I'd really appreciate hearing from current students or recent graduates. How have you found the course overall? How's the workload, teaching quality, labs, and practical projects? Do you feel the program prepares you well for industry?

Also, is there anything you wish you knew before starting?

Thanks in advance!

ICAC Investigation's star witness

Is this the same Alyssa White - from 15 years ago? If so it is a prophetic read

https://uowlivingfaroffcampus.wordpress.com/2011/10/26/alyssa-white-uows-newest-recruit/

"Over the course of the five year program, Alyssa will work in a range of administrative departments within UOW while also studying for a Bachelor of Commerce (Dean’s Scholar). "

UoW only have themselves to blame? A case of "the apple didn't fall far from the tree?"

Uow is heading in the wrong direction

With recent investigations and other reports of degree cuts and job cuts.

Honestly a bad time to study at uow as it is expensive tuition and no one thinking about making changes that benefit students that is not profit driven. I just sick these universities get away with it.

It needs a more sustainable approach and more efficient. With quality education and staff.

From 2025 people had to change their degrees due to degree and subject cuts which let to them changing degrees.

help lol🥀

Hi everyone,

I'm currently studying Mechanical Engineering at another university and I'm considering transferring to UOW. One of the main reasons is that my current university has hurdle exams, and despite getting an overall pass (50%+) in my units, I still failed because I didn't meet the final exam hurdle.

I know engineering is challenging everywhere, and I'm not looking for an easier degree. I'm just wondering what the assessment structure is like at UOW. Are there hurdle exams for engineering units, or are units graded based on the overall mark?

I'd also love to hear from anyone who's transferred to UOW for engineering. How has your experience been, and do you feel the assessment system is fair?

Thanks in advance!

Doing the Diploma of Business Fast Track pathway into 2nd year is it actually good or should I be worried?

Hey everyone,

I got an offer for the Diploma of Business Fast Track (2-session) at UOW College as an international student feb 2027, which guarantees entry into 2nd year of the Bachelor of Business (Marketing) at UOW. My grade 12 marks didn't quite hit the 65% needed for direct entry so this is my pathway in.

Just wanted to hear from people who've actually done this route:

  • Did the diploma feel like it properly prepared you for 2nd year, or did you feel behind compared to direct-entry students?
  • Were the classes/teaching quality noticeably different from UOW itself?
  • Did you make friends easily, or does it feel more isolated since it's a separate college?
  • Was the workload manageable alongside a part-time job?
  • Any regrets, or would you do it again if you had the choice?

Trying to go in with realistic expectations rather than just what the UOW College marketing pages say lol. Any honest experiences good or bad would really help. Thanks in advance 🙏

What WAM is usually needed for the Business Dean's List?

Hi! Ik UOW's Faculty of Business selects the top 5% of undergraduate students for the Executive Dean’s Merit List. For those who have made it recently, what specific WAM did you need to get in? Is an 85 usually enough, or does it tend to be higher?

Automation engineering / PLC Programming

Are you an Engineering Student who would like to get his/her hands dirty with programming industrial Logic controllers? This skill will better position you for employment as an automation or control systems engineer.

This is mostly valuable for Students of electrical/mechanical/mechatronics/computer engineering.

Message me if this sounds like something you’d like to explore.

I am doing a bachelor of business and I need to complete this subject if I want to graduate on time. Does anybody know if they typically let more people enter or if it's a dead end? Sorry if this is an obvious question.

Made a map to help us find friends and meetups around UOW

Hey everyone,

I noticed it can be pretty hard to actually organize meetups or find friends just by reading text posts on here. So I decided to build a little side project for us.

I set up r/AussieHangout which has a live map built right into the subreddit. Instead of just posting into the void, you can actually see on a map where people are looking to hang out. It's completely for platonic stuff like finding a study buddy, grabbing a coffee, or just going to the pub.

There is no GPS tracking at all, you just manually drop a pin in your suburb or near campus so people know roughly where you are.

If you want to see who is around UOW or want to make some plans this week, feel free to drop a pin on there. Hopefully it helps us get some actual offline meetups going.

Here is the link to the map: https://www.reddit.com/r/mazwiz/s/Bgt1YDf9Mw

UOW major extension enquiry

Recently my professor emailed me asking me to prepare a presentation to present my understanding of the course in order to approve / deny my major extension request.

I am doing a masters in education and have completed my 1.5 years and am looking to extend / explore deeper into the subject, thus requesting a additional semester or two.

I'm not sure what to expect, if anybody has gone through the same thing. Please help!

First year business subjects?

Hey guys, I’ve just finished my first semester of the bachelor of business but am unsure what subjects to enroll in for second semester.

I know we are supposed to complete 8 foundational subjects but are these actually required to be completed in the first year entirely?
I did BUS101, MGNT102, MGNT110 and MARK101 for autumn but want to do 3 foundational subjects with one elective for spring but unsure if I’m allowed to.

Also if anyone can provide insight into ECON102, BUS200, OPS157 and any of the accounting subjects.
I am not strong in math so I want to be prepared correctly, any help is much appreciated!!!
