Current Outlook
Storm Prediction Center Jul 22, 2026 2000 UTC Day 1 Convective Outlook - Tornado Risk 2%
...THERE IS A MARGINAL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER PARTS OF THE MID ATLANTIC AND NEW ENGLAND...SOUTHEAST TEXAS...THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS AND CENTRAL OREGON....
...SUMMARY... Isolated to widely scattered storms remain possible across the Carolinas and southern Mid-Atlantic, as well as New England this afternoon and early evening, with damaging winds as the primary concern. Isolated strong to severe wind gusts are also possible in the central High Plains, southeast Texas and central Oregon, where isolated large hail will also be possible.
...20z Update New England... A broken band of strong to occasionally severe convection remains ongoing ahead of a progressive cold front over northern and eastern New England this afternoon. Weak buoyancy, but fairly strong deep-layer shear (35-45 kt) should support isolated hail, and damaging winds with stronger clusters or supercell structures this afternoon. A brief tornado also remains possible across northern ME where low-level shear is locally stronger. The primary change this outlook cycle was to lower overall severe probabilities and remove them behind the front where the air mass has stabilized.
...Mid Atlantic and Carolinas... Farther south, the cold front has become increasingly zonally oriented and slowed as the upper trough has lifted away to the northeast. A warm and very moist environment remains in place across southeastern VA into northern NC. However, poor mid-level lapse rates and decreasing vertical shear have limited convective organization and intensity. Some renewed intensity is possible along the convectively modified boundary/differential heating axis along the NC/VA border this afternoon and evening. However, the severe threat (predominately damaging gusts) is expected to remain isolated into this evening. Severe probabilities have been lowered and adjusted to better match the main focal area for severe storms near the VA/NC border through this evening.
Elsewhere, isolated severe gusts/hail remain possible over parts of the central High Plains and the southeast TX. Isolated hail is also possible over parts of central OR. Scattered storms are expected late this afternoon through the evening. No changes were made to theses areas, see the previous discussion for more information.

Question Awesome clouds ?! Was hoping they were nado warned
I work at WNY and this year alone, NY has had 8 tornados. I dont know if lake erie is causing major shift in weather patterns hence the more frequent tornados.
I am aware that thunderstorms are often weakened over our lake but nados, not sure.
Anyways. Here's a few clips of some clouds that look like they want to funnel. Ive never seen an actual tornado so I am excited anytime I get close.
Thoughts on the cloud formation ?

Shitpost / Humor (MUST be tornado related) My attempt of making a Tornado intercepting vehicle with no idea of engineering or storm chasing 🥹
I thought the TIV 1, TIV 2, the Titus and the doms were sick vehicles, so i decided to create my own… I don’t know anything about engineering, no i have any idea on what storm chasing is beyond “driving next/ into a tornado to get data” 😔. It’s a pretty basic sketch with some thought put into it.
Basics:
Steel bars
composite of 1/8-inch steel skin… Kevlar, polycarbonate, and rubber (same as TIV-2)
Chassis: modified isuzu n-series 2026 🥀
Engine: Duramax 6.6L V8 Turbo Diesel l5p
Windshield 50mm polycarbonate and tempered glass
Windows 15mm polycarbonate material
I actually used cyber truck to sketch it out at the start, if you haven’t noticed
I didn’t add any weather instruments here, as Im not too sure what’s going on, but Im pretty it could fit inside!
Theres definitely something wrong here, let me know your thoughts, and ill fix it depending on the severity

It was truly amazing seeing these low topped supercells overcome the dry midlevels and produce multiple tornadoes. Low level CAPE is a thing of beauty.

Question What's the yellow on this warned couplet in West Virginia
I'm used to seeing the red/green shift but can't say I've seen yellow on the velocity scan before. Is that due to a mountainous area playing tricks or something? There appears to be a good preceding hail field or perhaps debris maybe?

Question pa tornado
there’s been the same cell it seems like causing a tornado to be on the ground for quite some time, now feel free to correct me if i’m wrong but i’m wondering if this might be a long track tornado? i’m praying everyone in the path stays safe and that it weakens soon because it just won’t give up and the fact that pa isn’t under any watches anymore is a bit worrisome. (the tornado near butler pa)

Aftermath For a brief moment the Round rock Texas tornado produced insane cycloidal marks and i haven't seen any mention of this online. 3/21/2022
This seemingly weak ish tornado exhibited cycloidal scars in a field for a brief amount of time before rapidly weakening before entering more populated areas. I think its fascinating how a tornado can intensify this quickly and then rapidly weakening again. I wanted to know what you guys think since theres zero mention of this anywhere online.
