So I haven’t really watched this sub and I’m from germany. Fortaleza seems to be the holy grail in the US? I guess I’m lucky that tequila isn’t really popular here because you find Fortaleza and most tequilas online. They cost around 70-120€ depending on blanco or anejo here. Would you recommend me getting the Reposado or Anejo next?

Went to Puerto Vallarta for the week, and visited Xhindo bar where I was blown away by this bottle, Cascahuin Reposado Rare “La Canela” (the dog’s name) private barrel. Proceeds from the bottle go to a local dog shelter in Punta Mita. They said it was a huge deal to modify Cascahuin’s label to include the dog. Was lucky enough to get to take their last bottle home with me.

Buzzed tasting notes were cooked agave (like all things Cascahuin), moderate vanilla, mild oak, maybe some fruity sweetness beyond the agave. I didn’t get cinnamon from it, despite its namesake, but I’ll have to do a proper tasting in the future with my bottle.

Hello we are visiting Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque, would like to know some places where I can get nice and rare tequila and do some tastings

Here are few pics of some of the tequila I’ve had over the years. I’ve had my share of bad tequila but after some research I’ve become very selective about the brands I follow. I try to stay away from tequila NOMS that take shortcuts and use additives. I normally shop at Old Town Tequila but I’m learning of some new places to shop in SoCal. Enjoy your tequila and it’s best shared with friends especially while in Vegas.

Thanks to everybody for all the recommendations in my other post about places to visit in San Diego and Los Angeles area. We had a day to do this, and while I'm sad that traffic and accidents (spent 4 hours in traffic) really killed most of the itinerary, we still managed to hit up 3 places and we still had a fantastic time!

First stop: Old Town Tequila in San Diego, CA

Let me start off by saying that the selection was madness, it was hard not to literally bump into tequila at every turn. Store was incredibly friendly, and just was teeming with bottles in every single direction I looked. Even walking the aisle can be challenging sometimes because there's boxes on the floor of some premium stuff that deserves your attention. We ended up walking away with a new variation of some Vietnamese Gin that we stock, that is hard to find for us. Not Tequila I know, but my girlfriend and best buddy are Vietnamese so we try to support vietnamese distilleries as they venture into making spirits.

Second Stop: Hi Time Wine Cellars in Los Angeles, CA (Costa Mesa)

This store completely blew me away. The finest selection of spirits across every medium, I was a kid in a candy store! First time seeing a Cascahuin Brix bottle in person, the XA, and a bunch of others. The prices were the cheapest I've ever been to, Cascahuin Tahona for $60, El Tesoro Mundial Basil Hayden for $69. At some point it was kind of even a little frustrating to check out the last 5 bottles I've bought and see that this store had them consistently $10-$20 dollars cheaper if not more than what I paid lol. This was the grossest decision making I ever had to handle, and ultimately walked away with the El Tesoro Mundial. El Tesoro continues to be my favorite line of tequila and I couldn't pass up on owning this bottle for the price, especially when the other stores still had this bottle at almost double in some instances. I honestly can't wait to go back, this store is worth going out of your way for completely. I will be back, with more money. No doubt about it! We also grabbed the new Whiskey coming out of Song Cai as well.

Third Stop: Hi Proof Spirits aka HiProof.com in Los Angeles, CA (Fullerton)

I've ordered from them before and it was on the way to a friends house, so it was meant to be. Much smaller than I anticipated, they are truly a primarily online operation I feel because you walk in and see scattered online orders everywhere. That said, the store did absolutely NOT disappoint. Amazing bottles and lineups, great prices, and just once again felt the love and passion for tequila here. I've been hearing a lot about Amatiteña, so I decided to launch my entry into that lineup with the Reposado, which was their last bottle. Again, it was meant to be so I had to get it, right? Also asked about the $20 dollar Siete Leguas and they managed to find one to sell to me at that price. They also found my online account and linked it to my in-store purchase, which was nice. Will definitely be keeping them in my order rotation.

Overall fantastic time. I'm sad I wasn't able to check out every store due to LA traffic but I'm happy we still made it to the few that we did. I've personally already cracked open the Mundial Basil and can say it was the correct choice! El Tesoro really just knows their stuff. Thanks again for the recommendations, and encourage you to also check out these stores. They all were fantastic friendly places.

Bruh I can not be the only person but every time I drink Don I get sick as fuck. Like 2-3 shots in I’m feeling yucky asf. It’s the only liq that makes me feel that way. I’m officially done with it now lmao but just wondering bc it gave me the worst hangover the other day and I swear I’m not a light weight ahaha

Nose

Smoke, Carmel, Pine, dark honey, vanilla

Palate

Viscous, pear, smoke, spice, light charcoal , watermelon, spearmint, cantaloupe, slight tinge of butter scotch. Finnish is long and carries the palate softly and elegantly. Very good tequila.

Final thoughts

For tequila, this a good example of barreling (2 months) for flavor without losing the agave as well as uplifting smoke inclusion. Some may call this exceptional, bold, daring. I see it as delightful, pleasant and a great start to a great agave tasting of Mezcal, Sotol, Raicilla and Bacanora. It speaks tradition and delivers on this. It's well made, has the feel of a tequila that is not industrial. Have I had better agave distillates? Of course. Better tequilas, thats a more difficult question. Don Fulano Reposadao, Chamucos Reposado, Siembra Valles Ancestral, and Siempre Exclusivo Vivo would be good side to side blind tasting, but I don't keep much tequila around anymore. This one makes the cut to a permanent place in my collection.

Whats to like.

Batch number listed. Community highlighted. High class and traditionally made.

Whats not to like

It doesn't have a powerful impact. It's flavorful, complex, and enjoyable but not amazing. It's very good not great. Lot of preprinted info on the bottle.

This one was a gift to friends.

Only saw them post this on an IG story so thought I’d share in case anyone needs it. Check the lot number on the bottom of the bottle and it’ll tell you what aging and barrel type is.

I picked up one of the SBs at the distillery in Feb, and the Colorado ones just hit stores a month or two ago. Excited to try the differences. Enjoy!

In my part of Mexico (Yucatan), the tequila selection is pretty poor, so I have to order online if I want anything decent (and even the online selection isn't great).

I ordered two bottles of G4 Reposado from Mercado Libre (Mexico's version of Amazon), but they accidentally sent me two bottles of G4 Anejo instead.

It's margarita night, and my wife and I started with using Espolon Reposado. The delivery just arrived, so the next round is going to be made with this!

Whether it’s bang for your buck or just straight up taste, I’ve yet to find anything to compares to this bottle.

You can easily find this bottle online for like $60 plus shipping, that’s the price of most decent reposados nowadays. I’ve have the extra anejo in the cabinet for a couple months still haven’t got around to cracking it open yet.

I’ve never had tequila but I would like to try, I just have no clue about the different kinds or where to start lol. But I’m not really into mixed drinks and probably wouldn’t want the harsh/cheap tequila with a lot of additives. Maybe something I can just drink straight and enjoy as is. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Got this bottle to try, it's on the lower end of cost, just wonder thoughts from the higher educated tequila drinkers out there. I don't have a long history with tequila, kinda stayed away from it after a long night in a bar with cheap bar tequila that left a negative experience that lasted almost 2 decades. I was directed to Camarena repo as a low cost starting point, and after 2 years of drinking that I'm looking to stretch my legs so to speak.

You can see the imperfections in the bottle which gives it character and the gold coloring is fading away from the etching in the bottle. It’s great to see the craftsmanship they put into bottles back in the day rather than a simple label slapped on the bottle. I got this as a gift from a coworker as he knew I loved tequila. We had some manufacturing plants in Guadalajara and we would visit the plants from 2009-2011, 2-3 times a year and each trip we visited tequila and toured distilleries or took the tequila train. The industry was way less popular back then.

What's wrong with Cuervo Tradicional Reposado?

I’m pretty new to tequila and mezcal, and I’d love some recommendations for a good starter lineup. I’m in Germany, so my options feel more limited than in the US.

I’ve been reading reviews on this subreddit and on TMM, and I’m leaning toward starting with blancos first, then moving up to reposados and (eventually) mezcal.

I’m planning to order these bottles for my first picks:

• El Tequileno Blanco
• Olmeca Altos Plata
• Ocho Plata Tequila
• Espolón Tequila Blanco

For someone just starting out, what do you think of these choices especially in terms of value/price? I’m mainly looking for bottles I can sip neat (or with a splash of something), and I’d also like at least one that’s good for making ranch water.

Also, what type of glass would you recommend for drinking tequila, and what types are typically available here in Germany?

Hi all, hope you're doing well. I had this Reserva gifted a day ago and today while inspecting rhe bottle, I noticed the cork was in the liquid. Instantly, I decided to crack it open and save the liquid from any damage the cork could impart. This tequila being 16* years old and me not knowing how much time had the cork spent in it had me stressing a little, lol.

I cracked it open, filter out the liquid, took the cork out of the bottle, cleaned the inside of the bottle, steal a tiny bit of the juice to taste, took this pic (thats why the bottle is empty), and finally, return the tequila to its bottle and seal it with an Ocho tequila cork I had laying around and tons of parafilm. It was a good adventure, ngl. This is the oldest tequila I've ever tried and due to its year, I had good hopes from Cuervo quality wise, so let's taste it. This how I personally taste tequila:

Aroma: Sweet, caramel, almond/hazelnut, oak, earthy

Flavor (interaction of aroma and taste): Syrupy texture, smooth caramel flavor, slightly nutty, abv is present, and it has this weird metallic taste. No agave notes whatsoever.

Taste (Based on our 5 basic tasting senses) : Bitter, Sweet

Being my first "vintage" tequila I can only say, it is nice. I was not expecting something mind blowing from this particular tequila, but I can say it is decent. I don't think it is additive free due to its viscocity, color and caramel flavor, but oh well, it has special sentimental value for me. How was this supposed to taste back then? Is this how today's Reserva tastes? Who knows. All I know is, the wooden box is pretty cool. Saludsita

Made my monthly visit to my local liquor store to grab some bottles that I haven't tried yet and the owner told me how impressed he was with Agave destilado (AD). I had seen small glimpses of this brand but it didn't really catch my eye until now. Made at most of ours favorite distillery, Cacsahuin. They source agaves from both regions, Los Altos and the valley and cook in the brick oven and then crushed with a combination of tahona and roller mill. Open fermentation with the bagazo and distilled to 47% then rested and eventually bottled at 44%. This is the type of stuff that gets me excited being a tequila fan, this blanco is so delicious. Flavors of cooked agave, nice balance of dry fruits and vegetal with a slight citrus note on the backend. Grabbed this bottle this morning and was so excited that I cracked it later in the day. I'm trying to find a really good sipping tequila for a friend of mine. I'd like to find something more unique/rare if possible. A $200 bottle is fine, though I know great stuff can be had for less. I've actually been looking for Lost Lore Valley Blanco but I live in a smaller town (Marquette, MI) and struggling to find it. ​Any thoughts on something that might be slightly easier to find that's very high quality.

Ive tried a bunch. Cant justify some of the hire price points. (Saving those for a celebration) But ive tried a bunch.

Hands down best budget tequila: zumbador. Blanco is $23 bucks here.

Biggest heartbreak: they stopped carrying tapatios reposado.

They have Cascahuín Tahoma but not for $100. Until it drops Don Fulano is probably my favorite Blanco. Ill usually go taptios for the price though.

I prefer reposados. Tried plenty. Siete leguas repo has been my absolute favorite experience. Keep finding myself comparing everything else i try to it.

I haven't tried it all. What are you picking?

Quite possibly the best reposado flight that exists on the planet today.

Unobtanium, but amazing. If you are passionate about agave forward blancos like we are, finding a group of reposado like this is such an amazing experience. The barrels used to finish the Lost Lore special edition #1 and #2 are exotic and unique - Ambarana, spanish port wine barrels. They throw flavor profiles that accentuate agave - cinnamon, orange, sweet bread. And the LL FTR flies in the same air. The Arette Single Barrel Select brings these all together with barrel spice that says "this is quality tequila that was aged the right way". A great night of sipping, but we're just getting started...
