Civility, decorum, and debating the great issues of the day in r/SimiValley.
Apparently this needs to be said, so hopefully everybody reads it.
Different opinions are going to be expressed in this subreddit. Lately it's been politics, in a different month it might be development, traffic control, schools, etc. Whatever the topic, we don't want incivility, trolling, baiting, vote manipulation, hate speech, misinformation, intolerance, personal information, or witch-hunting in the comments, titles, or the body of posts. Maybe I left something out, but that's it off the top of my head. Expect bans of varying length - up to and including permanent - if engaging in any of the above. It's not something we want to do, but there it is. If you see name-calling, trolling, etc please report it and don't escalate the situation. Feel free to message the mods with any questions or concerns.
Thanks a bunch, and thanks for being here & participating in the subreddit.
* edit - adding "witch-hunting", "baiting", and modmail link.

Community Help - Caltrans 118 Requests
Hello all,
I wanted to share this resource for the benefit of our community.
Have an issue with the state of the 118 freeway running through Simi Valley?
See trash, weed overgrowth, etc?
The city of Simi Valley is not allowed to deploy our Public Works crew to the 118 for issues.
This also includes property along the on and off ramps to and from the freeway.
To submit a complaint form to resolve issues related to the 118 freeway,
Caltrans has a "Submit a Service Request" form that can be filled out here: https://csr.dot.ca.gov/
The issues usually get resolved in a few weeks based on my experience of submitting requests, but they are likely resolved based on the volume of complaints received.
Just wanted to share this resource as it is our duty as a community to ensure all aspects of our town are looked after.
Cheers, and have a nice day xx.

Does a garage to back yard door need to be a fire door?
I am getting the door between my garage and the back yard (note - back yard, not the house!) replaced because the current one is rotten. One builder quoting for it insists it needs to be a fully fledged fire door because of the planning rules. Another says a fibreglass is ok here, as there is no house access involved.
I called the city planning offices to try to get a definitive answer, but couldn't get anyone to answer the phone. Online, the best I could find was basically "it depends".
Does anyone have an answer? Or a good official number or email who could give me the answer?
Thanks.

Police pursuit ends in deadly crash, shots fired in Simi Valley
"Police are investigating after a chase ended in a fatal crash involving a pickup truck and what appears to be a police motorcycle and shots fired in a Simi Valley neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.
The crash was reported in the 2500 block of Dusan Street, south of Sycamore Drive.
Sky5’s Gil Leyvas was over the scene at 4 p.m., where a motorcycle could be seen on its side next to a white pickup truck that sustained front-end damage. The truck also appeared to have bullet holes in the windshield. A SWAT vehicle was stationed directly next to the truck.
A body could also be seen covered with a white sheet near the crash site.
It all started with a police pursuit that came to an end when the pickup truck driven by the suspect crashed into the motorcycle and shots were fired by officers. One resident reported hearing the gunshots.
It has not yet been confirmed if the person who was killed in the crash was the pursuit suspect. It’s unknown if any officers were injured in the incident.
Residents were told to avoid the area until further notice." - KTLA 5 News

i worked for one of the simi fiber companies. AMA
my replies wont be very frequent. but i was wondering if anyone had any sort of questions about the mess that has been fiber in simi. i worked for a “certain” provider that was not GigabitNow ;) i had a horrible time with them and their false promises. i see a lot of confusion about the fiber situation in general so i thought i could help out a little bit. :)

UPDATE: A year with Gigabit Now internet
I had previously posted asking about Gigabit Now reviews and after almost a year of switching from Spectrum, I feel the need for an update.
It started out very very good. The speeds we were experiencing was amazing and the regular outages of Spectrum was a thing of a past for us. It's been pretty good until starting a couple of months ago when suddenly regular service interruptions showed up, once every 2 weeks or so. We're experiencing it right now, the modern shows connection but none of our devices can establish internet connection, and most frustratingly their customer service phone numbers are not being g answered.
Anyone else ha e their experiences they'd like to share?

Art Trek Thursday Game Night in Newbury Park
Hello all,
I’ve been very lucky to have been asked to hang out on Thursday Game Nights at Art Trek in Newbury Park. We spend the night socializing and playing table top games, building puzzles, and I have been showing kids and adults the basics to figure painting for gaming miniature figures. We will be doing game night every Thursday night through July but hope to keep it going (if we can keep attendance up). As of 2020, Art Trek teachers and volunteers reach over 50,000 youth and adults annually via STEAM, cross-cultural, cross-curricula, fine arts, team-building, and expressive workshops.
I hope to see you at Game Night!

Anyone know if they are finally adding more lanes on the 118
On the drive from Simi to TO yesterday/today and noticed they are doing something with the far right lane + the emergency lane (talking about the 2 lanes from Simi to MP)
Don’t think they are re-paving because it doesn’t need it. Any thoughts or insider information? Hopefully Simi is finally waking up to the insane traffic
