Culture/Lifestyle Sony/Alamo Drafthouse officially announce takeover of the Cinerama Dome and Hollywood Arclight theaters.
I want to mention u/ShantJ and their post from yesterday.
The situation has evolved as of this morning, and I'm linking 3 stories that posted less than 20 minutes before I sat down to write this:
Sony To Reopen Cinerama Dome In 2028; Former Hollywood Arclight To Become Alamo Drafthouse
Cinerama Dome to Reopen in Early 2028 As Sony Deal Revives Iconic L.A. Theater
At 9:07 AM I got an email via Alamo Drafthouse confirming the plan.
It's OFFICIAL everybody, we're getting The Dome back!
IMO, Alamo/Sony taking it over is a win. It would've been great to see it end up with someone like Tarantino, but this virtually guarantees that The Dome will be kept intact, will retain the ability to run Cinerama features and 70mm film, and will likely at least occasionally be used for older films.
