Beware of the new CLI spoofing scam!

Hi,

Yesterday, someone tried to scam me over the phone, so I thought I would share the story as a warning to others.

For the past few days, I’d been getting calls from unknown landline numbers-one from Olsztyn, another from Kalisz, two from Kraków, and so on. Eventually, I answered.

The woman on the other end introduced herself as a BNP Paribas consultant and claimed that, at that very moment, she was blocking a payday loan AKA "chwilówka" someone was trying to take out using my personal details. In order to block it, she supposedly needed to know which bank I had an account with. She also started asking whether I had lost my Dowód Osobisty and similar questions.

I politely told her that my personal information was none of her business, that I still had my data, and that I had locked my PESEL number through the mObywatel app anyway, so nobody could take out a loan in my name.

She got flustered and started insisting that locking your PESEL number does not apply to payday lenders and that I had to cooperate.

I politely told her to fuck off.

From what I’ve read online, had I told her the name of my bank, I would soon have received another call from a different “consultant,” supposedly from that exact bank-and the call would have appeared to come from the bank’s genuine customer-service number. That’s how CLI spoofing works: the caller displays a fake number on your screen. The second “consultant” would then have continued manipulating me.

I’m curious whether any of you have had similar experiences.

One of the most influential people in the development of the modern personal computer market was Jack Tramiel (Idek Trzmiel), a Lodzermensch who survived the war in the Lodz ghetto and in Auschwitz. He founded Commodore, responsible for producing C64, the best-selling computer model of all time.

The last thing we need is approval from some Brits (which 10 years ago had 180-degree opposite opinion about us) or other foreigners because we have "don't have doctors and engineers". Promotion of Poland as a safeheaven can cause only more tourism from abroad, encourage digital nomads and other people will excess money to buy out our properties and paradoxically cause more immigration cause Poland is very safe, isn't it? All of these things will rise real estate prices. I started to miss times where Poland was underestimated and we didn't have weirdos like this coming to our country.

As a Czech, I visited Stary Browar in Poznań. I admire your work, but I have one question...

Hi everyone!

As a creator from Czechia, I have to start by saying one thing: I am genuinely envious.

While in Czechia we often let our historic factories, railway stations, and breweries rot and turn them into parking lots, Poles managed to take a ruined 19th-century brewery in Poznań and turn it into a legendary shopping center that wins international awards. Massive respect for saving that industrial heritage.

On the other hand, while walking through Stary Browar, I had some mixed feelings. Architecturally, it’s a masterpiece, but looking back now – do you sometimes feel that over the years and millions of visitors, it has lost a bit of its original soul and become just a very pretty, yet still... shopping mall?

I'm very curious about your opinion as locals. How do you view Stary Browar today?

Note: The video is in Czech, but full English subtitles are available (turn them on in YouTube settings).

Questions regarding the timing of residential address registration in Poland

Hi everyone!
I'm a non-EU citizen working in Bydgoszcz, Poland, currently on holiday back in my home country.
Before leaving (on July 15th), I started the process of moving to a new place, but the move isn't fully finished yet (I'm practically still residing at my old address). My plan is to return to Poland on August 20th after my vacation, finish moving, and then register my new address with both the City Hall (Urząd Miasta) and the Voivodeship Office (Urząd Wojewódzki).
However, due to a misunderstanding, I informed my employer about the address change too early, and they updated my address in the ZUS (social security) system on July 24th. This has been making me really anxious...
Could this timing gap affect the legality of my residence status in Poland?
