Set up advice I got my dream piercing and I don’t love it

I’ve wanted a hidden helix for MONTHS and I finally got it yesterday, but it didn’t turn out the way I expected :( It looks great from the side, but I kind of hate the way it looks from the front (second photo). I was envisioning it being pierced closer to the center top of my ear, rather than down to the side, although my piercer said this is the best placement and it leaves plenty of room for me to wear sunglasses without bumping it. I don’t know if I don’t like the placement, the jewelry, or both, but something’s gotta change! The only problem is that this jewelry is white gold so it was too expensive for me to just give up on right away 😫 Any advice? Is this just the secret about hidden helix piercings, that they don’t look as good when looking at them straight-on, or is my ear not as well-suited for it as I thought it would be?

Moonstones and sandblasted swiss blue topaz, mostly. The orbital has a teeny little mercury mist topaz and the rest is CZ and white sapphire.

I special ordered a Tiny Sara to put in my helix/flat area and am so excited! It’ll be an arc of light amethyst marquises and moonstone cabochons.

all things jewelry I hate threadless jewelry

I know it’s highly recommended and the gold standard and whatever and I use it but it suuuuucks. Sucks to remove, sucks to put back in. I haaate when I order a threadless piece and the pin is pre-bent because then I have to unbend it just to be able to insert or remove it from my bars 😭.

Signed, someone that just replaced their high nostril jewelry and had to straighten pins.

Edit to clarify: the SLIGHTEST bend is okay but I find the pre-bent pins are at too severe of an angle and are just so mfn hard to insert or remove. I know they’re ~supposed~ to be bent and I’ve never had an issue with losing my tops or having any unwanted movement/looseness. I’d really rather not struggle w my finger up my nose to stabilize the already slimy post enough to shove the pin into it). Yes I have a threadless taper, forceps, and a little grabby tool thing (which honestly is kind of useless bc it is too weak and big to remove the tops so I just use my fingies). Just here complaining because I’m annoyed with a recent purchase sorry 😭

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Why is my Daith is angry

Thumbnail

Pic 1 & 2: recent pictures
Pic 3: freshly pierced
Pic 4: that night (TRIGGER WARNING it bled a lot)
Pic 5: my healed left daith

(Both hoops are solid gold)

So some context; I got my left Daith pierced in 2022, and although the healing process was tough after about a year it was randomly perfectly healed. So in December 2024 I got my right Daith pieced (sun hoop) and the healing process seems never ending, it always seems so angry. I don’t sleep on it, I don’t touch it (only to clean after the shower genuinely with q-tips) I won’t even rest that side of my head on my boyfriend’s chest when I’m with him. I’m so so careful with it and I don’t know what the problem is. Some days it’s better, but other days there’s an irritation bump or it’s so tender. I was genuinely so bad with my Left daith (pic 5) and somehow it’s perfect. I don’t know if the newer jewelry is heavier or something, but I both got them pierced at a very good quality studio. I don’t know what to do, I’m not going to give up on it but living like this is really annoying and I’m praying it heals on its own. I know some people say neglect is the best way, maybe I’m cleaning it too much but it gets all crust especially after I shower I feel like I have to clean it. I also don’t know if it’s maybe bc I’m not drying it afterwards, I not sure. Again I was awful with my right Daith, and I feel like I’m being so carful in comparison. The pictures I used are taken after I showered and cleaned it but trust me she gets crusty and red :(( Any advice??

all things jewelry Not sure how to bring this up…

Update/edit: hi all! Thank you so much for all the info and support. I contacted the piercer on insta and she is shocked and offering to swap it out with something else and take this one so she can use it as evidence to dispute her purchase. Based on some comments neither her nor I should be all that surprised they are bad quality given the price point!

I had to get my jewelry taken out for an MRI recently and decided to treat myself to some new jewelry when I came back to the piercer to have everything put back in. Any of the jewelry I got from the tattoo shop is holding up great and is titanium. The piercer said she had some jewelry she bought on her own and I got this one (pic 1). It’s a titanium post but a month in and the end/charm looks like this (pic 2) and is turning green (pic 3).

How do I bring this up to the piercer? Or do I just not and call the 30 bucks a waste and buy something else online? This was my first time going to this piercer so we don’t have a relationship and she hasn’t actually done any of my piercings just jewelry swaps.

I’m not a maximalist type person- but I love ear jewelry and I want my ear to look elegant and balanced. I’m worried about doing “too much” and would like your honest opinion about my setup and what I should add, if anything.

So much pain but it’s so worth it. More people should get orbitals I’m obsessed. I plan to get a second one around my helix and maybe a forward helix one on the other ear 😛

Set up advice What should I get next?

Thumbnail

I’m still healing so not getting anything soon but what should I add next? I think I want to add two more on my right ear and maybe one more on my left (my ideas are in purple). Also, ideally I don’t want to buy much more jewellery but can move around what I have once healed (third photo shows the rest of what I have)

Note: I have had anatomy checked for the ones I’ve drawn on. I don’t have rook anatomy.

Also, my first lobes are healing from being stretched and I think I’ll stack rings in them but not 100%

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Flat piercing advice

Thumbnail

I got my flat pierced in mid May and I’m worried about what looks like a lump of piercing crust underneath the front of my piercing. It’s very hard and takes up a lot of my bar length, which is causing the back of my jewelry to be very tight against my skin. It won’t budge no matter how many times I let warm water run over it and spray it with saline.

I’m not sure what to do other than to try and break it off with a tool but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea because I don’t want to touch it and cause an infection.

I am an hour and a half away from the nearest (good) piercer so I would really like to avoid having to make a trip if I don’t absolutely have to.

Thanks for any help!

2 months old
Titanium flat back labret
Threadless
Spray twice a day with neilmed

(Ear is only red because I was struggling to take the photos)

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Rook piercing too shallow?

Some context:
- I got this rook done in June 21st, 2023- so it’s been a little over 3 years.
- It was when I was first getting into piercings, so I got it done at the mall (at least w a needle) lol… I know better now!
- It does NOT hurt or itch or feel inflamed. It’s not bothering me at all.
- I can move the jewelry around without it hurting or feeling irritated
- Barbell jewelry is titanium, internally threaded
- I never downsized it (oops)
- Since it’s 3 years old, I really just clean it with showers. I have not noticed crusties or blood.

Set up advice Piercing Advice on Layout

First two pics are my ears now-last two is editing to see what I’d want to add. I talked to a piercer that said a hidden helix wouldn’t be very hidden, so scratch that one. I love gold and blue and chains and dainty aesthetic. What would look good with my anatomy/existing piercings? Or what jewelry could i add to existing pieces to add some bling? Also where are the best places/sellers to buy jewelry from?
3rd pic has double conch, i decided to buy the blue/chain conch instead. 3rd pic also has inspo below my ears if that was confusing.

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!!

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Unsure about brow piercing placement

Thumbnail
gallery
8 Upvotes

I got my brow pierced like 15 hours ago and I like it but I was anxious and didn’t take enough time to really look at the placement and I think it might be too close to my eyelid.
I have hooded eyes and kinda unique facial features so that might contribute to the fact that it looks quite different from others I’ve seen. (I prob should have showed example pictures for what I like)
I don’t know if removing it in the next few hours vs in two days would make a difference for how the scar is and how long it takes to heal up?
I just don’t know if I should remove it to get pierced again once the old spot heals. I kinda like it then I don’t.

discussion Setup advice & piercing hygiene

Post image

I have a few healed piercings already and recently got my conch pierced on my left ear. Kinda wish it was a little lower cuz I want to wear a clicker once fully healed, but I figured within the next 6 months or so I could get another conch pierced below it.
Would a double or triple conch look too crowded?
I'd have the clicker for the middle conch jewelry and two labret studs for the other conch jewelry if I go the triple conch route. I'm also open to any other piercing suggestions!

As far as hygiene goes, how long did you wait in your healing journey to scrub behind your ears with a rag, soap, and water?? I feel dirty asf not scrubbing behind my left ear, but I know if I do that anytime soon it will only irritate my piercing.

Feels like a silly question, but I skimmed through the subreddit and didn't find much so I figured I could ask. (I know it can be quite annoying seeing the same posts/discussions)

Also, I have a slight piercing bump on my tragus (pierced this past February) from not downsizing on time. It's been slowly getting smaller after I downsized.

Answers for the bot :

• Age of new piercing : few days old
• Jewelry shape : labret
• Threading : internally threaded
• Material : titanium
• Aftercare routine : warm tap water to promote blood flow and loosen up crusties, followed by MediCleanse piercing spray (0.9% sterile saline solution, no preservatives), and then I use a small handheld fan for a few minutes to dry both front and back of the piercing. Once in the morning and once at night.
