When I first moved to Philly two years ago I came from a very suburban area where you always helped your neighbor, always held doors, said hello etc. Which meant after I moved here I was the bleeding heart forking out every spare dollar and quarter to homeless people on the 10-minute walk to the station on my morning commute. My first acquaintance here was a homeless guy living behind my building who I still check on these days. In my early transplant days I ran to hold doors or would guiltily and diligently stop and listen to the vest wearing Planned Parenthood or Greenpeace petiton workers because I felt bad for outright ignoring them.

I am a millennial woman raised in the societal upbringing of "be polite, be kind, be accommodating." Its exhausting. I grew tired and I grew harder in this city.

However, today, today people just need to leave me alone and mind their fucking business.

Walking into Trader Joe's this evening and these vested dude said something about "Ma'am do you care about gun violence?" I do but I'm depressed, using my last couple bucks for food before payday next week and not in the mood for a 15 minute canned spiel and hassle to try to get $25 dollars from me. So I kept quiet, head down and went inside. Upon exit the same guy says, "You don't want to talk to me, you should at least smile." And as I kept walking his vested buddy, "Yeah, thats okay, sure just ignore him."

Fuck both of you.

This was also hot off a nosey-ass, confrontation in a public restroom earlier where a woman stopped me on exit and said, "You work at a hospital?" (Nope, my job has absolutely nothing to do with Healthcare just weirdly requires us to wear scrubs for uniform), "Because that was the least thorough hand washing I've ever seen."

Fuck her too. I use soap, sing happy birthday and dry thoroughly and I sure as shit wasn't elbows deep rummaging in my asshole in the bathroom stall.

And yesterday, some "young bull" on his bike sped towards me in the bike lane, popped a wheely and faked like he was crashing his front tire into my head before pulling away at the last second.

Idk what kind of cuntjuice has been put the water in this fuckass city lately but I'm somewhat happy to move out to the suburbs next month for a little while. People have lost their humanity (myself included), their empathy and their ability to mind their own fucking business.

Hi guys, I am a student in Oklahoma. At around 2 am of 13th of July, while I was traveling to Baltimore to attend a conference via Philadelphia airport, my pet cat Daisy who is also my partner's emotional support animal escaped her carrier in front of the airport and ran into a crack under the platform of the nearby SEPTA railway station, and has been lost since.

I have gone to PHL airport multiple times to look for her, stayed for entire nights many times to see if she comes out in night, we put up flyers, we asked around people. I have posted this flyer on every platform I could think of, visited the local shelters, even hired a search dog to do a scent search. So far, only lead I have is that she was seen once by someone around the parking area near terminal A, and also the search dog led us to terminal A parking area. Also, there is one other cat around the parking area of terminal A, and some taxi drivers are feeding that cat, so I suspect that Daisy could potentially be around that area. Another possibility is that someone might have picked her up near the terminal A as her scent disappears around there.

I am trying to post this on all the possible places people hang out on internet to reach as many people as possible whoever is flying or landing in PHL airport, I have filled a lost report for her with PHL Airport Police and, reported that she is lost to her microchip company. All of our information is up to date in her microchip.

We are leaving Baltimore on 23rd of July, and we are devastated to lose our 7 month old baby girl Daisy, and it is hard for us to leave her behind. If any of you happen to see her around please do contact me right away or please please hand her to a shelter and ask them to contact me if she is found, we will fly back and take her back home. Please help us find Daisy. Thank you all.

Turns out omost of 311 is just people asking for info - 57.1% of Philly311 calls are just people using it as an alternative to googling for something.

This is based on analyzing 1.5 MILLION 311 calls over the last 2.5 years.

For the past few months, I've been doing a deep dive research project into Philly311. Most of the work has been looking into the quality of real services, equity, and double-clicking into things like abandoned cars.

My ingoing assumption when I started the research was is that Philly311 is a system you call when something need's fixing (potholes, trash pickup, etc), since that's the way I use it.

Instead, when you look at all 1.5M requests since 2024+... you find that 57% are just people calling for info (when's this parade, where is the municipal court, etc.). That's about 800,000 calls per year, or 3200 per day - 57% of which are just info requests.

And interestingly, if you look at the above chart, they basically chart the work-day and workweek, i.e., even though Philly 311's open till ~8pm, volume dies down dramatically after 5pm, which is weird since there should be equal numbers of potholes at 10am vs 7pm.

So basically Philly311 is really two sytems with a phone number:

I have a 2013 Vespa that won’t start. The battery is good but it never started after the long cold winter we had. Can’t seem to find a place that repairs Vespas in the Philadelphia area. Any suggestions?

Landlord has been aware of this potentially dangerous leak since January (Philadelphia)

Hello looking for some advice here, me and my girlfriend (both early 30s) have been renting a house from a really disorganized and incompetent landlord. As per the lease he is responsible for repairs. He has now been here 4 times since January and each time he just frantically runs around our house and talks in circles and pretends like he fixed something and leaves within 10 mins. Meanwhile nothing got done. Everytime we have a question he acts like we are insulting him (e.g. when will you be back to fix the rest) and tells me to “stop being a smartass” which is highly disrespectful and uncalled for.

Just yesterday he came by and spent 2 minutes caulking the tub which of course made no difference at all. I asked if we could just hire someone to fix it and take it offf the rent but he refused and said that he “has crews for that” yet is barely ever available. He treats this place like it’s just an inconvenience during his work day when in reality he is legally obligated to fix this. I want to file a claim with my local license and inspection but I’m not sure if that would actually do anything since he keeps saying he has to come back and fix it not sure if I can make the claim that he “refused” to do repairs. If anyone knows Pennsylvania law and has some advice.

Also the cherry on top? I looked up his records and apparently he hasn’t had a valid renters license since may of 2014. Any advice on how I could retaliate against this malpractice would be great thank you.

I didn’t know if there was areas that you would recommend to stay around during my 2 night stay, food places to recommend (looking for Italian or pizza Recs, so hotel nearby by some good locations would be a bonus), and finally any other attractions / historical sites you may recommend that’s around independence hall area ??

Also going to see if I can catch a Phillies game.

**Side note are there any museum passes / time allotments you would recommend on how much each one would take ? I know I’ll probably spend the whole day at the Rev War one since that’s my main interest.

Edit- Been waiting for [thing i'm excited for] to arrive for over a week. UPS never rang the doorbell or got a signature, or sent the text alerts I signed up for. Package left on the edge of the porch in plain view. Gone in literal minutes, despite being home and regularly checking for updates.
