Hardware Risky walmart

This walmart has some pc parts, but this looks risky. But it's tempting, because I'm still in the return window for my 9060XT that I haven't installed yet. It was $420.

Game Image/Video This is one of the reasons pc gaming is better. Consoles are fine , they are a great way to play games but console players arent experiencing this.

Hardware Accidentally bought an engineering sample RX 6900 XT (XTX?) for $230

Hello! Posted this here before, but deleted it so that I could make sure I was safe legally. This post should also have more information as well.

I bought a "broken" RX 6900 XT on ebay, where the seller said they got it from a friend. From the pictures it looked like an RX 6900 XT LC (https://kinghossing.blogspot.com/2022/02/amd-radeon-rx-6900-xt-lc-liquid-cooled.html), which seemed like a pretty rare card. I put in an offer for around $230, and they accepted.

When I got it, I was surprised to see a bunch of pins, ports, and switches on the back of the card. It also had some stickers with numbers that didn't return anything, and one that says "Secure Typical XTX A0 ASIC." I know that this is probably some early revision/engineering sample, but I'm not sure what exactly it is.

I am wondering if it could be an engineering sample for the unreleased 6900 XTX, like this one: https://www.techpowerup.com/281394/amd-radeon-rx-6900-xtx-engineering-sample-pictured

I uploaded the VBIOS to techpowerup and it said it was unique, and right now I have it in a test rig trying to figure out drivers/performance issues. The seller stated that the core clock speed was stuck at 490 Mhz, and I saw the same issues with the most recent drivers. When I tried drivers from 2021, it fixed the clock speed issue, but the benchmark performance was still poor. Don't know if this is something I can fix with drivers/software or not, so if anyone has any ideas please let me know! I do not intend on making any permanent changes/repairs to the card.

I'm also not much of a collector, so don't plan on keeping it for long. It would be very cool to send it off to a content creator to be included in a video, so let me know if you have any ideas on people to contact!

Hardware How I stopped my huffing and puffing laptop from cooking itself

Post image

During the recent heatwave in Germany, my laptop was struggling hard while gaming. The back got so hot I could barely keep my finger on it. I bought it in 2022 and had never opened it up before. Turns out the fans were packed with dust. A friend who works at a computer shop blasted everything clean with compressed air. The whole thing took about 10 minutes. Since then it's been noticeably quieter, cooler, and seems to hold its FPS much better. Apparently cleaning your laptop once every four years is a good idea.

Today I stopped by a Pawn & Jewelry shop looking for a drill, but a PC sitting in front of the checkout counter caught my attention. The guy working there told me it didn't work because someone had taken the RAM out, so of course it wouldn't boot. Without thinking twice, I bought it and took it home. I installed a single 4GB RAM stick just to test it, and I literally jumped with excitement when it powered on! The only downside is that I only have that one 4GB stick for now, but I'll be upgrading it to 16GB soon. I still don't have a drill, but at least I have a gaming PC now!!!

This post isnt about bragging (even if im rlly proud of the build), but simply that after 2 years, this 7700x and 7800xt build would cost you hunderds more. Even though these price hikes are insane, its more scary to me how this could happen to any industry at any point in time basically over night and we would have no idea until its too late. Just goes to show how low us consumers are on the priority list of these big companies and how powerless we are against them

Question AIO making odd noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey yall!
Have had this AIO for a while.
It’s been making a noise for about a few months, but I never really cared, until I was cleaning and heard how loud the noise is.

Temps are fine, and the noise doesn’t go away in time.

Any idea what this is or if this is something I should be concerned of?

Discussion How do I know which Wi-Fi card is better?

Post image
63 Upvotes

I want to know the order of these from best to worst and how you figured out which one was which? They came out of all my old laptops. I have one laptop I still use on occasion and I didn't want to take the entire back off to get that Wi-Fi card out so it's not going to be here in this comparison.

As you can see by the bottom of the picture those are Wi-Fi to PCIe adapters and so I was hoping to put the two best ones in them.

I assume the one with the two notches is better than the other ones because I've never seen that before so it must be newer right? (It was also taken out of the newest laptop/only one using an m.2 SSD which I have also pilford)

Also what's that piece of plastic for?
