Build/Battlestation 9060xt 16GB or 5070 12GB

Upvotes

So I own a 3050 6GB laptop, so the jump to a prebuilt PC is gonna be very good regardless.

I’m looking to game on 1080p for a bit then get a 2K monitor later in a couple months.

I play both AAAs and competitive games equally.

The 9060xt 16GB PowerColor Reaper + Ryzen 5 7600 prebuilt system is 1100 USD

The 5070 12GB Palit + Ryzen 5 7600 prebuilt system is 1275 USD

Other factors are mostly the same except for psu, with the 5070 version leading in quality and wattage to no surprise.

I know the 9060xt is an attractive value graphic card, however i’m concerned about the performance being comparable with the 5060, aside from vram ofcourse. Moreover, nvidia’s features are better, especially with raytracing. Finally, nvidia supports a wider variety of games and installs its features faster onto new releases. + it’s more familiar. What do you guys think, am I talking out of my… or am I making sense?

Hardware Potential liquid exposure on Zotac RTX 5070 - advice needed

Upvotes

Hi everyone, while I was cleaning my PC setup, some glass cleaner accidentally squirted near my graphics card. The PC was turned off and completely unplugged at the time. I noticed some drops on the front shroud, but I am worried that a tiny amount might have entered through the metal ventilation holes on top of my Zotac 5070.

I wiped down the visible wet spots and let it sit. The PC is currently up and running perfectly fine with no graphic glitches, performance drops, or artifacts. Should I still be worried about hidden internal corrosion or delayed damage from the cleaning agents, or am I safe since it works fine right now?"

Hardware Intel Core Ultra 9 285K vs AMD 9950X3D for a workstation + gaming build?

Upvotes

Hello!

Its been a while since I built my last PC, and I am trying to get back up to date on everything that has happened the last 6-5 years. So I am looking for advice from people who have actually used these CPUs.

I've always been an Intel guy, my current setup has a 10900k. I had AMD in the past but had lots of problems that annoyed the heck out of me.

To keep it simple:

My planned build will look something like this:

  • RTX 5090
  • 128 GB or 256 GB DDR5
  • Windows 11

My main use will be:

  • SolidWorks
  • Mastercam
  • CAD/CAM
  • Workstation
  • Gaming

I am more in favor of workstation performance than gaming. I would say my use case is 70% workstation, 30% gaming.

My questions:

  • Which platform has been more stable long-term?
  • Is AMD now considered as stable as Intel is? I want something that just works.
  • Any BIOS, RAM, or Windows issues?
  • Is Intel's higher RAM speed with 128/256 GB actually noticeable in workstation tasks?
  • Is the 9950X3D still the better overall choice despite slower RAM?
  • Are there any problems running 128 GB/192 GB/256 GB RAM with AMD/Intel?
  • Could Threadripper be the "overkill" way to go instead?

Price isn't a factor—I'm only interested in stability, performance, and upgradeability over the next 4–6 years.

I'd love to hear from people with real-world experience on either platform.

Question Bottleneck

Upvotes

Is it possible that I'm bottlenecking my setup with 1080p?

I have

Ryzen 7 5800x

RTX 4070Ti 12gb

48GB RAM (2x16 and 2x8 both same speed and cl)

I noticed that my cpu is usually at high usage in games and I was wondering if it's either the ram combination or the low resolution. Help me understand since I'm still not the best at hardware compatibility.

Discussion My ASUS TUF GAMING RTX 4090 12VHPWR cable melted 3.5 years later

Upvotes

Hi all. So, my ASUS TUF GAMING RTX 4090 12VHPWR cable melted after 3.5 years of ownership. One day my monitors starting going black. A restart would fix it, but within minutes it would happen again, regardless of load. I never smelled anything. I went to reseat the GPU, even though I had not done so for more than a year, and I discovered that the 12VHPWR adaptor that came with the card had partially melted inside the port. In fairness, I MIGHT have nudged it a few weeks prior when upgrading my CPU, but I have no recollection of doing so.

Anyway, I contacted ASUS, and they told me that I am 4 months out of warranty, so they aren't covering me. I can send it in for a $35 diagnostic fee, and then they'll tell me what it will cost. I asked the rep if he had any idea what these situations commonly cost, but he wouldn't give me any hints.

So now I am at a crossroads. I can send it to ASUS for $35 to see how much they want to charge me. As far as I can tell, all I need is a new port (hopefully an upgraded one) and an adaptor. A second option is a third party repair place, but I have no idea which one would be good, or if they would do a better job or cost less. A third option is DIY. A family member who solders professionally said he could do it if I could source the part. The thing is, that's no easy feat. There seem to be a litany of slightly different versions of the part, potentially based on the specific board. Even if I knew the part number, ordering them is clearly geared toward bulk orders from shops.

So, these are my three basic options. Any thoughts? I have been lucky enough to have a friend willing to let me borrow a spare 2070 to keep me online, but of course it isn't the same. I am in the USA if it matters btw

Hardware My ASUS GTX 1060 burned, and before I buy another graphics card I'd like to understand what most likely caused it. I'm worried that my PSU may have damaged the GPU, but I'm also wondering if the motherboard PCIe slot could have been the cause.

Before the GPU failed I experienced: - "No Signal" on boot. - Sometimes changing HDMI ports would bring the image back. - The screen turned completely red once. - HDMI flickering. When the GPU finally failed, the monitor suddenly lost signal, but the PC itself stayed powered on. The fans kept spinning, the lights stayed on, and Windows did not appear to shut down. Only the display went black. After removing the GPU, I found the burned area shown in the photos. I also noticed a dark mark around the motherboard PCIe slot. My questions are: 1. Based on these photos, does this look like a GPU failure or a motherboard PCIe slot failure? 2. Could my PSU have caused this kind of damage? 3. Would you trust this PSU with a new GPU after this incident? Any advice from people experienced in GPU repair or electronics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Tech Support Experiencing LiveKernel 117 GPU crahses on RX 6600 XT AMD Adrenalin 26.6.4

Upvotes

I have recently been experiencing a driver timeout issue on my pc. I'm not entirely sure why and there's a few possible factors. I recently upgraded my CPU and Motherboard, the CPU is new and the board was bought used. It is a Asus TUF Gaming B550 plus. Initially I though the error could be related to pbo and my curve optimser I had to undervolt my cpu. After fully removing the undervolt and running my gpu at complete stock with a fresh install of drivers using DDU and fully reseating the GPU I still get the timeout error. It only ever happens when doing low intensity tasks such as browsing, discord calls and basic usage, It has never crashed or given me any issues under load or whilst playing. I even ran it through 3DMark Timespy, Steel Nomad, Heaven Benchmark and 30 mins of Furmark without one single error. I did repaste the GPU a couple months back and I've had it for around 4 months. I also messed around with overclocking the GPU for a bit, but im not very good with those things and I couldnt get it to run stable so I didnt use it after that at all and basically didnt game with any type of overclock ever. Even after the repaste, and overclocking I did not experience any of these issues before upgrading my board and cpu and installing the newest amd drivers. The temps are quite good and iv'e never really had an issue with them. My PSU is also a brand new CoolerMaster MWE 850W Gold and my motherboard bios is updated to the latest one. Im not entirely sure if this is an issue with my gpu hardware, my board or potentially a driver issue with the latest amd drivers. Any help would be largely appreciated. I will also upload a .dmp extract from one of the crashed I experienced.

Tech Support Is my HDD failing?

Upvotes

I've recently been having a lot of trouble launching and playing games that are installed on my HDD. According to CrystalDiskInfo, the drive is reported as healthy (screenshot attached), but games like Overwatch have incredibly slow launch and loading times. Games on my SSD don't seem to be having the same issue.

Before I cough up the abhorrent storage prices, I just wanted to check if this does sound like a failing hard drive, or if there could be another cause.

Specs

  • CPU - Ryzen 7 5800x
  • GPU - RX 9060 XT

Tech Support M.2 SSD shows "Not Present" in BIOS on cold boot (white BOOT LED on MSI board), but boots fine after restarting inside BIOS. Any ideas?

\English is not my native language, but I will do my best to understand everything.*

Hey guys, looking for some advice with a issue on my new build. I have an MSI A520M-A PRO motherboard, Ryzen 5 5500 with a Gamdias Boreas E1 cooler, Zotac RTX 5060 Twin Edge, Corsair CX650 PSU, and a 500GB PNY CS1030 NVMe M.2 SSD running Windows 11. The problem is that whenever the PC has been off for a few hours (a cold boot in the morning, for example), the motherboard hangs on the white BOOT LED during POST (CPU, DRAM, and VGA lights clear fine) and drops me straight into the BIOS. Once inside BIOS, under Storage / System Status, slot M2_1 literally says "Not Present" as if the drive doesn't physically exist. The weird part is that if I just hit F6 to reset defaults and then F10 to save & exit, the system reboots and boots into Windows immediately without any issues. Games and apps run great, drive health looks good, and if I turn the PC off and back on shortly after, it boots normally. Date and time in BIOS are always correct so I don't think it's the CMOS battery, and I've already tried turning off Fast Startup in Windows and removing any RGB software. Do you think this is a power delivery/thermal issue with the PNY SSD/board M.2 slot on cold start, or could it be some weird UEFI/CSM boot setting I'm missing? Thanks in advance!

Tech Support ASUS PRIME B650M-A AX II won’t POST with EXPO enabled, even after BIOS update

Upvotes

I’m hoping someone has some ideas because I’m stumped.

specs:
Ryzen 5 7600X
ASUS PRIME B650M-A AX II
32GB (2x16GB) G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5-6000 (EXPO)
RTX 5060 Ti 16GB
Samsung 990 EVO Plus 1TB SSD
Corsair RM750e PSU

Everything worked fine at first except I noticed my RAM was only running at 4800 MT/s. I enabled EXPO in the BIOS to get the rated 6000 MT/s.
After enabling EXPO, the PC started having boot issues. Whenever I restarted Windows, it would often fail to POST and eventually boot into the ASUS “The system has POSTed in Safe Mode” screen. If I disabled EXPO, it would boot normally again.
I updated the BIOS from version 3067 to the latest 3881 because the release notes mentioned AGESA updates and improved EXPO/memory support. Unfortunately, the problem is still there.

Question What's the difference between the Asus V16(2026) laptop and the Asus V16(2025) laptop

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I need to buy a laptop and I saw this one from Asus which reflects what I'm looking for, the build I was thinking of getting it with is an i7 240H /RTX 5060/ 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD.I had "configured" this build for the 2025 model, but I saw that the 2026 model has been released, but looking at the specs, I can't figure out what's different. Since the "configuration" is also the same. That said, the price is also the same. If someone could explain the difference to me, it would be a great help. I'm buying them from Amazon, and these are the two links.

Discussion What are your thoughts on debloating nowadays?

Upvotes

I just had kind of an epiphany of sorts, i'm 21 years old, i got to have a laptop of my own at 2019 maybe? it was a Dell inspiron something something, it doesn't matter that much. came with 4gbs of ram. it took a while for me to get to 8gb(4+4) and even longer to 16gb(8+8) until eventually i made the grave mistake of trading it, idk what i was trying to do then.

It all started with that machine, i was a fan of games for way longer though, Xbox fan by a long shot.

Anyways, these past few days i had trouble with my main pc(Ryzen 5, GTX1650, 16gb ram). Lost one hdd in the process, had to format the system. Everything is fine now, but i didn't even realise how much crap i had in storage until i lost it all.

Ever since the laptop days, i had a rooster of software that i downloaded everytime i reinstalled any machine of mine, things like(gimp, notepad++, krita, visual studio, inkscape etc etc) i was in IT high school(more on the coding, sites part) so yeah i kind of needed it. I'm finishing another IT course this year but it's more on the problem fixing, hardware, networks side. I haven't touched a programming language in years, if you asked me i wouldn't know how to build a simple barebones website.

Back when i first started using my laptop i've always looked for the optimizations, the windows tweaks, the suspicious software that got rid of bloatware. I felt so relieved when my ram usage went down 300mbs y'know, even when like i had 16gbs on that laptop i still did that shit.

Now i let most things slide, there's no use worrying about those 200mbs the system is using anymore. But to be honest, One thing that i noticed after formatting my pc now, i had TOO many programs that i didn't even touch on, they were just there for 'a rainy day'.

"oh this program seems useful, let's install that", "oh this helped me that one time, let's leave it there"

So much stuff that i didn't use in like months. I'm still pondering about what to install now. Eventually it will probably get cluttered again, i don't know.

If you don't already have one, you really should consider getting one. Anybody can find a use for it, plus it looks really neat on your desk.
