In the last three years or so I've read over 200 LitRPG novels (I keep track on Goodreads). I am so hooked on this genre! My favorites include: HWFWM, The Good Guys/Bad Guys, Divine Apostasy, Welcome to the Multiverse, Rune Seeker (reading the latest one now), Mage Errant, and Dungeon Crawler Carl. I've enjoyed other series like Azarinth Healer, Beware of Chicken, Noobtown, Heretical Fisher, and Primal Hunter. And of course, there were some series I didn't finish (no comment on those because I know other people enjoy them, and I don't want to discourage the authors with negative feedback).

I'm always looking for new reads, so what are your favorites?

I’ve tried to listen to Armor by CB Titus but had a hard time getting into it, not this one though Penitant is like if A Soldiers life got mashed up with the anime A Promised Neverland and it’s phenomenal 10/10

Hi, it’s me, Ship Teaser! Well damn, better late than never, but it’s finally here! This one clocks in at a more… modest… lol… 34 hours, so once more, you get a nice long listen to enjoy some On Astral Tides goodness.

Anyway, I apologise for the delay, we had hoped April, but various issues cropped up which delayed things, but I believe it worth the wait. Book 2 is where the story really starts kicking into higher gear. It’s still got a detailed pace so you can enjoy progression, slice-of-life, battle and romance alike, but a lot happens over these thirteen days, a lot of trouble lol!

I see OAT as a Persona-like, in that the social aspects and levelling up the ‘party’ is just as important as the MC, and so is socialising, so we have a blend of combat, grinding, everyday life and politics, split over both our mundane world and the mysterious Astral world of the Boundary, where power in both worlds affects the other. And I think this volume brings out a lot of that. Time management too lol…

Anyway, if you’ve listened to Book 1, there’s more of the same and better in Book 2. Oh, and yeah, I do apologise for the mispronounced Japanese words in the first volume. The narrators have noted this, and I’ve added extra notes for this volume, so that should be fixed. And there’s talk of fixing that in Book 1, not sure if it’s done yet or will be done, but we’re all committed to making the product as good as we can be.

Oh, and for those of you after the waifu codes on Harem-lit.com, I got you. To celebrate we have a full Eri Mori collection, as she’s our cover girl here. It even has the cover variant *laughs* Aiko, her childhood friend alongside Akio, has a nickname for Eri, a play on her name and a famous Japanese term for an overly obsessed, possessive and sometimes dangerous woman… it’ll grant you a collection of Eri’s progress through the series, so it’s like a time capsule and a preview alike… plus some pretty cards lol.

If they’re a go, being a lot shorter than Books 1 and 2 (though still big for the genre) I’d expect, barring more unexpected issues, you could see them sooner than you’d think!

So I was one of those who got bonked with Dungeon Crawler Carl as a recommendation and went hard into it, already on book 4 after about a week.

I love this so much, I love the humor, the crassness at times, and just the whole presentation that Matt provided and Jeff's narration in the Audio books is putting up a bar that's making going back to finishing up my other books hard to do.

So in that thinking, what other books after I'm done consuming the rest of the DCC series like it's my last meal that I can look forward to.

Audible, Kindle, and Royal Road options are all viable.

Anyone got recommendations for the portals appearing on Earth stick?

With modern society surviving compared to the full blown system apocalypse that turns everything into fantasy land.

I like the setting but not the specifics of solo leveling and other similar stories of the genre.

No super Op MCs please and other people than the mc should be able to get stronger.

Took a break from DotF to listen to the new book in the Underworld series and The False Hero, and now I am struggling to get back into book 15 of DotF. I think I am tired of "cultivation" constantly with little breaks for action or world building. I want to keep enjoying it, but there is only so much "Heart cultivation" I can listen too without something to break up the monotony of the grind. Think I am going to give Chrysalis, The Primal Hunter, or The Wandering Inn a shot now.

Is it really a litrpg if there isn't some sort of lovable abomination such as croc, bloodshed, Shog/grotto, mongo, Colin/Gordon/shade or is it more that I seem to gravity towards those sorts of stories?

This may be a strange question or request given the nature of the books and series. Is there any recommendations on RPG lit series that have had their series finish. So I can reach a conclusion at least in some stories😂

Since the end of last year and this year I’ve fallen down this wonderful level and power rabbit hole.

I listen to all the books on audible, I’ve currently read/listened to DCC, HWFWM, Chrysalis & Primal Hunter I’ve loved all of them for different reasons. However, I would love to tick some series in this world off, rather than waiting for next book to sate my hunger, or starting another series to scratch my itch😅

This isn’t to say I’ll add more “unfinished stories” to this list, it’s nature of this genre I feel and I’m well and truly hooked

Hey everyone! I just started reading The Wandering Inn, and I’m currently in the latter half of Volume 2. I’m absolutely loving it so far, and honestly, I don’t really understand the criticism Volume 1 gets—it completely hooked me from the beginning.

That said, I have a question for the longtime readers. I’m reading through the Kindle books, but I’ve seen a lot of people recommend the web serial instead. Am I missing out on anything important by sticking with Kindle? Were any scenes, chapters, or details cut or changed when the books were published?

I want to experience The Wandering Inn in the best way possible, so I’d love to hear what you all recommend. Is the Kindle version enough, or is the web serial the definitive experience? Thanks in advance—I’m really curious to hear everyone’s thoughts!

Sometimes the first book just grabs hold and you're all in. And maybe the series didn't keep your interest, but that first book is one you'll go back to time and again.

For me? Picking one is hard, honestly. But I'll say He Who Fights with Monsters. Book one sets up the world and establishes the characters so well.

Some series I have read/tried to read so far.

HWFWM - Loved the world and the story hated Jason. Stopped around book 11 because I just couldn't care anymore.

Primal Hunter - I honestly just felt like this was a better HWFWM. Jake did a few things that annoyed me, but overall enjoyed the side characters and most of the story. A few down points but I don't think it's possible to have a perfect book.

DCC - Enjoyed dungeon crawler carl. No notes, just different and it was a nice breath of fresh air.

Hell Difficulty Tutorial - I could not stand the MC stopped really early into book 1.

Welcome to the Multiverse - Got to book 2ish and quit as it already felt like he was just going to be instantly overpowered. I will probably go back to this, but need a break.

Path of Ascension - Enjoyed the start but once again stopped on book 5 as it just started getting repetitive to me. I do like most of the characters and will probably go back and finish this series once i get the itch for this type of story again.

Quest Academy - Currently in book 4, but it's getting really repetitive of "Oh, I made the best thing ever seen. Nobody else can do this! I also have no idea how anything works and I just bullshit my way through it."

Dislike solo leveling type series where a super overpowered person never struggled with anything and just goes god mode to fix all their problems but for some reason SHH CAN'T TELL ANYONE ABOUT MY ABILITY. I just find power fantasies boring and no real substance or point to even reading them.

I really enjoy stories where a character is placed in an unknown world and has to struggle a bit and learn their system or magic. It feels too common with series I've been trying lately where they just "No idea how this works bullshit powers go!" and it solves all their issues. Most of my enjoyment comes from the start of a series as they learn and explore the world. I love getting invested in learning about everything with the character. Also an intelligent main character would be a huge bonus!

If the writing is good, throw every god damned trope in existence at me. Dont ruin your story trying to be unique, instead just focus on the writing quality. People will read your stuff I promise, and more than if you spend all your creative bandwidth trying to come up with author pickme crap.
