Brown Derby Bamboo Room

The Bamboo Room was a cocktail lounge within the historic Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant. It opened in 1936 and was known for its unique bamboo and zebra-print decor. The Bamboo Room was later remodeled into the Record Room in 1954.

National Register of Historic Places #79000484 (contributing property to the Broadway Theater and Commercial District)

Charles F. Plummer designed this 1928 Spanish Colonial restaurant (also known as the Broadway Cafeteria) for German-Swiss immigrant Alfred T. Schaber, built of concrete and featuring a terra cotta and wrought iron façade. At its height, it was capable of handling nearly 10,000 customers daily.

Hippodrome Theater

The Hippodrome Theater opened in 1911 as the Adolphus Theatre, running vaudeville and films, on the site of the old Panorama Building. It was designed by Edward Leodore Mayberry Jr. and Llewellyn Adelbert Parker. In 1913 it was renamed the Hippodrome after a remodel by Otto Janssen.

Hill Street Tunnels

150–250 North Hill Street and 310 North Hill Street–490 North Hill Place

The Hill Street Tunnels were built by the Los Angeles Pacific Railroad to bypass the grades of the street’s namesake Bunker Hill, and opened to rail traffic in 1909. The roadway bore opened to traffic in 1913. The Los Angeles Railway ran streetcars through the southern tunnel starting in 1939.

Hill Street Terminal Market

437 South Hill Street

The Hill Street Terminal Market was a grocery store and deli originally built in 1925 as a ticket office and waiting room for the Pacific Electric Railway. Designed by Charles C. Rittenhouse, it was remodeled into a public market in 1927 once the neighboring Subway Terminal Building opened.
