Hobby Things teams do the best and the worst, Day 2: Battleclade

Post image
169 Upvotes

From one of the easiest to one of the hardest to play!

Tell me what you think is the best thing about the BattleClade and the worst thing.

I'll start:

Best: High strategy KT, seeing someone play them well is insane, very high skill and floor team!

Worst: For me, the design, Servitors does not look as AdMec, only the tecnoarcheologist and the underseer, wich is a shame because i love AdMec Style

A friend of mine wanted me to go ham on making the Sanctifiers team chaos-y so gave me the team out together + a ton of cool bits. Converted them up, painted em up, and I hope they serve him well on the battlefield. It was a lot of fun to do 🧔

Question How should I get started as a Tyranid player?

Post image
40 Upvotes

I've purchased a couple of boxes of Tyranids to play 40k, but building an army takes a while, so I figured I'd get a kill team next so I can start playing at my local shop. My absolute dream is to get a couple of malstrain genestealer boxes from necromunda and just play them as the "writhing shadow" genestealer kill team, but I'm seeing online that that kill team is no longer playable. What's my recourse? Is it only banned from official play or is it completely incompatible with the current game? If so what should I get, raveners or red terror?

First time ever posting on Reddit, hope yous appreciate my efforts.

The Commissar was a sort of "What If..." kitbash experiment originally but he makes a handy backup if I don't feel like running a Hellpistol.

Hobby Anyone feel Red Terror’s angle hides its best features?

Granted I haven’t painted it yet, but just from looking over this sub, I noticed everyone who has a picture of their finished RT, they lower their camera angle as if looking straight on - not the height you’d be looking at it if playing the game (most of the time).

I really love this model and plan on taking my time to try to do it justice with my paint job, but I just feel like it’ll hide the details while I play. Am I crazy?

I put it next to a couple other models that need to be painted to show that even from that height/angle, you can still see their best feature well enough. I probably could have tilted it up a bit more on its base, but I’m not redoing it and I don’t think that’s the design anyway - and I guess that’s my gripe.

Question Is suffer not the alien as OP as it seems?

Post image
32 Upvotes

I have just bought a deathwatch team and reading the rules in more details, this ploy seems kinda OP and just straight supersedes normal CP re-rolls.

Assuming you're not fighting against chaos or imperium (which I don't tend to), this means you can pick as many dice as you want to reroll for just 1cp rather just 1 dice like a standard CP re roll?

Question This game is overwhelming! Advice?

Hey everyone.

I live in a small surf town so there is no local scene. I recently started playing on TTS. I watched plenty of tutorials, battle reports and recommended content.

I picked Wrekka Crew. I have just finished my second game ever today. First was yesterday.

Both players and a spectator were very very helpful and held my hand through the whole thing.

I still felt it was very overwhelming. Was forgetting strategy ploys, all the different weapon rules, order of things and in general what the heck I should be doing.

Any advice?

Much appreciated

Thanks everyone so much good advice, much appreciated. Seems like a great community.

Strategy Exodites Rules Summary

**I wrote a (still fairly long!) summary of the exodite rules while reading their rules to help me understand them and cut out some of GW's legalese.

Hopefully this helps anyone who is having trouble understanding them/wants to write a cheat sheet.

I've tried to avoid being ambigious but use a few shorthand keywords in places.**

**Nothing should be outright incorrect, but please let me know if I have missed something!

All based on the rules released on WarCom today (22/07/2026) https://assets.warhammer-community.com/eng_22-07_kill_team_team_rules_exodite_dragon_masters-bfqzdncjqz-ijdqo65ctu.pdf

------------**

Operatives

3 Dragon Riders (melee specialist, shoot specialist, support specialist) and 2 Drakolithes (Kroot Hounds)

Speed faction rule

Team has a status/buff [Speed] of three levels, based on movement: either "3-", "4+" or "7+" depending on distance. This is essentially "speed level 1, 2 or 3".

Drakolithes' Speed is based on how far they have moved from their starting position: * More than 5" = Speed 7+ * More than 2" = Speed 4+ * Else = Speed 3-

Dragon Masters just based on movement used: * 7" = Speed 7+ * 4" = Speed 4+ * didnt move / moved less than 4" forwards (or went backwards) = Speed 3-

The various speed levels are used by various rules/ploys etc, but additionally:

Defence dice retaining

When shot, retain defence dice: If Speed4, 1 normal; If speed7, 1 crit.

Dragon Masters

  • All 4* APL / 12"* Move / 3+ Save/ 24 Wounds
  • Cannot be deployed at the start of the game. Must come in at the board edge on their first activation
  • Different weapon profiles and rules per operative
  • Must activate twice per firefight phase
  • *3 APL limit per activation
  • *9" total move limit per activation
  • Cannot shoot/fight twice in a single activation
  • Cant reposition/dash/charge/fallback, only [sprint] (0AP) and [turn] (1AP)
  • Cannot climb
  • Cannot ever go on Vantage terrain (excluding stuff less than 2" from killzone floor e.g. fire steps on Volkus)
  • Cant be in cover from terrain that is: light terrain; less than 2" high; and/or not fully intervening (i.e: if a horizontal line can be drawn from an enemy's base to it's base without going through any terrain within 1" of the Dragon Master, its not in cover)
  • Cant get obscuring from terrain less than 2" and/or not fully intervening (as before: if enemy model's base can see it's base, it isn't obscured)

Dragon Masters all have 2 additional rules each, chosen from a pool of 5 each (similar to Blades of Khaine but must be locked in at start of battle)

Clanblade (melee specialist)

Shoot profiles

  • Solar Carbine (4,3+,3/3,Dev1)

Melee profiles

  • Drakesteed fangs & talons (6,3+,3/5, Brutal)
  • Moonblades (5,3+,4/6,L5+)

Rules

  • Scaleshield: When shot, if no retained crit hits, reduce piercing by 1.
  • Clanblade Upgrades: any 2 rules from the Clanblade upgrade list
Leystalker (shoot specialist)

Shoot profiles

  • Long Rifle (mobile) (4,3+,3/3,dev1)
  • Long Rifle (Stationary) (4,2+,3/3,dev1,Aimed*)

Melee profiles

  • Drakesteed fangs & talons (6,3+,3/5, Brutal)
  • Hunting blade (3,3+,3/5,L5+)

Rules

  • Aimed: Heavy(3"). No effect on [Guard]
  • Implacable Darkscale: Injured doesn't affect Hit stat
  • Leystalker Upgrades: any 2 rules from the Leystalker upgrade list
Stonesinger (support specialist)

Shoot profiles

  • Solar Carbine (4,3+,3/3,Dev1)
  • Venomcrest spit (4,3+,3/4,rng8",Sev,Tor2")

Melee profiles

  • Drakesteed fangs & talons (6,3+,3/5, Brutal)
  • Stone stave (4,3+,3/5,Psychic,L5+,shock,stun)

Rules

  • Song of Renewal (action, 1AP) per TP, not in combat range. Pick one:

    • 2D3 Heal one visible friendly
    • 1D3 Heal all friendlies
  • Stonesinger Upgrades: any 2 rules from the Stonesinger upgrade list

Drakolithes

  • Same data sheet for both
  • 2 APL / 8" move / 5+ Save / 7 Wounds
  • Cant use weapons not on datacard (e.g. grenades)
  • Can't pickup/place markers if the Leystalker is dead
  • Basically a Kroot Hound without Poach, but CAN do mission actions

Dragon Master Movement Actions

This section does not apply to the Drakolithes (which move normally). These actions can only normally be used once per activation.

[sprint] (0 AP)
  • Can only move directly back or forward, in 1 inch movement segments
  • Can only move 3" if moving backwards
  • Can turn 45 degrees ONCE before or after any 1 inch movement segment
  • ignore enemy control range for movement (enemies treat your movement as charge if you end in their control range, but it is NOT a charge and isn't restricted as such)
  • Cant climb
  • Ignore terrain less than 2"
  • Remove terrain equipment it moves through (barricades, ladders, etc)
  • For fighting they have a 1inch control range (4" vertical) (meaning if their opponent isn't within 1/2 inch on their own turn, they aren't locked in combat)
[turn] (1 AP)
  • turn up to 45 degrees (in addition to any turning from [sprint])

Dragon MasterUpgrades (extra rules)

Clanblade (Melee specialist)

  1. [Moonsong Cull] Can do a second sprint (forward, w/o turn) after killing in melee
  2. [Spectral Nimbus] per TP, in fight/retal, opponent can only retain 6 as crit success <use rule before rerolls> <Turns off Lethal, Severe, Rending>

  4. [Speartip of the Clan] in fight: +1 normal damage if: Speed4 = first normal only ;speed7 = all normal dice
  5. [Bladed Stance] in fight/retal using [Moonblades] weapon, resolve 1 block before normal order

  2. [Elusive Phantasm] At end of firefight phase: free 3" sprint (up to any movement left) or turn, if not in enemy control range. Speed doesn't change.

I played my first game last night and I half to say it was fun as hell though I was hella nervous and I was asking questions when I wasn’t sure of something

I wasn’t through my ploys I still have some understanding of what some of those(wording wise) mean but eventually I’ll get there

The way we ended the game too was also very fun we did a shoot out since our LGs was closing and we had to be out by 9

I’m looking forward to playing more in the near future!!!

Question Tips on getting a local scene going?

Title says it all. My LGS is more about bighammer than kill team. I’ve mainly played solo/Co-Op so I’m not 100% confident in hosting a ā€œhow to playā€ night but I’d love some locals to play and learn the PvP game with. Any advice would be helpful.

Question Wrecka Krew in the current META, how are they doing?

Haven't played since about a month after they came out and going to get back into the game this weekend, what Tac Ops do they do well and what kind of composition do you have the most success with?

Is Tanked up worth it now that it's +1 Save?
