Help Lifelong MK player exploring other fighting games...Dear God.

So, long story short, I've always liked fighting games, or thought I did, but the only fighting game that I could actually play with other human beings growing up was Mortal Kombat, as it is of course, the most mainstream fighting game.

I played a lot of MK9 and MKX, all the way to MK11 and MK1 until recently, but I always wanted to actually try other games, so last week I bought SF6, and holy fuck.

I had some very basic knowledge about timing, punishes, mix-ups (only lows, throws and overheads tho,) I actually think my footsies is not half bad and I could read my opponents well enough to have a "game plan" whenever I played.

But now I'm realizing my lifetime of muscle memory on MK might be useless because of the dial-in combo system that NRS implemented in all MK's, which is something I literally just learned was a thing, so now that I'm trying combos in SF6 and other fighting games, I feel like I'm learning an entirely new language.

This is obviously frustrating, as I can't actually translate the habits I had on previous games to these new ones, so far I've only tried Strive and SF6 and was aiming to buy Tekken8 in the future to also try it out, since It honestly looks fun, now I'm realizing that I might need to take this a lot slower than I would've liked.

What should I do? I would like to be more prepared and most importantly, know if there's any other things that might've gone over my head just like the dial-in combo system, which is something I did so naturally I didn't even realize it was a thing until recently.

Help Do you ever find yourself playing worse during long sessions

Upvotes

I'm asking this because I haven't really seen anyone talk about this (atleast in the context of fighting games), but does anyone else feel like they actually get worse during really long sessions? I doesnt really feel like its tilt it feels more like my brain is overloaded or mentally fatigued. Does anyone else experience this?

Help Interested in too many games and can't balance it

I got into fighting games at the worst time possible, the steam summer sale. I bought EVERYTHING. SF6, Tekken 8, DBFZ, the Arc sys humble bundle including 16 games, I'm "only" interested in Blazblue Centralfiction, GG Strive and GG Accent core +r from those tho, and I also bought MvC3 and Fatal Fury Cotw. On top of all that there's also Fightcade with all the cool old games too like SF third strike and CvS2 and also 2xko which is free. And a million mugen games like OS-Farram's Ikemen fighting collection or Hyper Dragon Ball Z.

And than there's Avatar and Tokon coming out now which both seems fun. But I'll probably skip them until a sale, it feels like throwing money out of the window if I buy them on top of all this.

I'm equally interested in all this, well maybe if I have to say one, than MvC 3 wins by a tiny bit, the community edition mod characters are way too much fun. But that game is kinda dead, especially with mods and cpu is pretty limited.

In the last month I tried learning them at the same time, but it's so taxing to try to hunt down combos online for all of them, especially the not so popular ones like 2xko or modded MvC characters (of course it's no problem for SF and Tekken), figuring out which ones work or not than having to practice all of them. It's fun for a bit, but I never get to the point of actually playing matches or even against the cpu, as soon as I kinda learn 1 harder combo most of my day is gone and it's time to switch to the next game.

I know the common sense answer is just to focus on 1-2 games, but I'm so interested in all of them and can't really choose...

Is there anyone who figured out a solution to this?

Topic Was there a character that you were horrible at but still forced yourself to play simple because you liked them?

Happens to me so many times, I boot up a fighting game looking to play this one cool character who has all these sick combos and I end up being dog water at them.

Personally, I mainly experienced it when playing Meg in GBVSR. I really liked her character design and she was a waifu so I decided to pick her up but I ended up struggling quite a bit. I still play her now but just not nearly as much as my other mains. Not saying I don't absolutely love her, she's probably one of my favourite characters in the whole of GBVSR and I'm still working on improving my skills with her

Does this kind of thing happen to you guys and how do you guys like motivate yourselves to keep on playing that character

Help Character archetypes in Avatar Legends?

Upvotes

Has anyone made a breakdown of the character archetypes in this game? Does anyone on this sub know the character archetypes from what was playable in the beta? It seems like a lot of characters are very rushdown oriented, which I don’t mind. I’m seeking out the “heavy” character of the group which seems to be Toph, but let me know.
