my bedroom has pretty much been the same since i was a teenager, and you can REALLY tell. i’m in my mid-20’s and i’m embarrassed of my room!

i’ve outgrown the stuffed animals (for the most part), putting stickers and buttons/pins on everything, and having SO many toys and figures. while i love supporting small businesses, i want to learn how to curate the art on my wall. right now, it’s a colorful mess…!

i still want space for my books, games, and art supplies, and i’m nerdy at heart. i just need advice for how to tone everything DOWN and GET RID of all this stuff!

Although i acknowledge its a nice room i feel like ots missing coziness and color. I really like mid century modern interior but cant figure out what to add. I bought a big floor lamp and some smaller ones that are not in the picture but im not sure what else to add.

I have to keep the landlords furniture and unfortunately am not allowed to do any permanent changes, but I guess switching some chairs or similar is possible.

I need help to decide where I should place the TV. The angled wall between the bedroom and the livingroom is about 1,5m perhaps, so I can only have a small TV bench there. I’m afraid that it will look weird if I buy a large TV…

I just bought my first house with my fiancé (I’m so excited and love the house), but I don’t love how white the kitchen is. I want to live in a house with personality and color, and this just isn’t doing it for me. I’m hoping to not have to do anything super major (like replacing the countertops), but I’m definitely open to painting, adding a backsplash, changing the handles. I would love any suggestions to make it more warm, colorful, and welcoming!

I’ve never been able to love the layout of my living room due to how awkward it is to place anything in. Does anyone know a better layout for this room?

I use the TV a lot for gaming and entertainment. The other side of the room is where I have my desk. The biggest issue is trying not to block any of the entryways or fireplace.

Hello! I'm redoing the layout of the living room, but I'm not sure how to approach it. The room itself kinda awkward, since it has a door in the middle to access the backyard. The main issues I have are that:

• The TV is too far away from the couches, but I'm not sure if I could simply move the couches up without blocking the door
• The dining table feels awkward, floating in the middle of the room.

I want to create two distinct spaces in this room, one with the TV and couches, and one with the dining table. But I am not sure how to orient the TV or couches in a way that wouldn't block walkways.

• I am planning on replacing the couches, so they can be swapped out
• I'd prefer not to replace the TV or the dining table/chairs.
• I would like to buy rugs or other decorations

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

I’m getting new carpet tomorrow so I had to pull everything out of my room, figured it would be the perfect chance to rearrange. I have difficulty arranging due to weird cutouts, doorways and windows along most of the walls. The walls with windows tend to have a lot of insects around them since the house is old and doesn’t have the best sealing around the windows(tips for that would be great too lol!) so I don’t like to have my bed by a window for that reason.

I have 2 dressers, a standalone clothing rack that is about 7 feet wide (I typically one of the dressers underneath that and it fits perfect), a king size bed, a loveseat couch, small 2’x3’ vanity and a 3’x6’mirror to fit!

I would also appreciate any tips for my room to feel less basementy- I’m planning on hanging tapestries over a majority the ceiling to cover all the weird parts but not sure what else I can really do without spending a ton of money!

I'm looking to create a floor to ceiling bookcase at the back of my living room, using Ikea's Billy. I still have to build a large billy to fill the gap on the right, but I wonder if I should stack 2 extensions (as shown on the picture) or if it's too high, in which case I would stick with one extension only... What do you think? Any design tips for this project? Also not sure what to do with lighting..

Anywho, I’m sure I’m probably overthinking this but I recently bought a house (yay!) and neither of the closets have doors. They’re both this size but the other might be deeper. I was thinking about a sliding barn style door but since the wall isn’t even, I don’t think that’ll work.

Worst case, I just do curtains but I’d rather not since I have a cat and dog who shed a lot.

We have owned our home for nearly 9 years, and I still don't know how to layout this space. It feels like we've tried everything. Our current configuration is an L-shaped couch in the south/west corner and the TV mounted on the north wall between the door and the west wall. We have chairs in storage but are keeping the space very open right now with two little kids who need room to play. The room is large but an odd layout, especially with the back door placement and an entire wall dedicated to a fireplace.

We are finally able to do some renovations, and we know we want to do the following:

• Remove the "pony wall" in the kitchen (where the microwave is).
• Replace the wall and island it with a single level island that moves closer to the south and east counters. The current open floor space in the kitchen feels unnecessarily large.
• Replace all flooring (tile, hardwood and carpet) with one type of flooring, probably hardwood or engineered hardwood.

We are open to:

• Removing or reducing the fireplace hearth and/or fireplace itself. We like having it, but really only use it occasionally in the winter on colder mornings, so we don't necessarily need it.

Here are my questions:

1. What kind of island configuration would you suggest? We want to fit 4 stools since we are a family of 4. We would like to retain as much storage as possible. Our 31" wide stove needs to remain on the island, and I'd like to build the microwave into the island since we will be losing the wall where it is now.
   1. Option 1: Square with 2 stools each on the west and north side
   2. Option 2: Rectangular - likely with 3 stools on the long side and 1 on the shorter side. I don't think we have enough space for an island long enough to accommodate 4 stools in a row.
      1. Sub question: which orientation would make the most sense in this case? east west or north south?
2. What suggestions do you all have for furniture and storage layout in the living space? The dining room is fine as is unless we need to change something, but I would love some ideas for the couch, tv and storage for the kids' things. This is where our family hangs out and plays together, so it needs to be practical in that way. We like L-shaped couches or a way to stretch out and really lounge, but are open to other ideas. I recently purchased my first home, and the initial space you walk into is an open living, entry and dining. I’m having trouble figuring out which furniture to purchase for the entry way. I think it will look odd if everything is just lined up in a row on the wall. I recently purchased a hutch, but I’m thinking I will also want some sort of entry way piece and maybe a a table. Any help would be much appreciated. I’m including a few different views of the space.

We just bought this house and are shopping for new living room furniture but are so lost on the best layout to still see the TV but maintain walkways.

We plan to mount a TV above the fireplace and we are open to sectional/sofas/ love seats but we do really want a recliner.

We have about 9ft of room from the wall with the window to keep a decent walkway by the stairs over the kitchen behind the living room.

We are at a loss- please share your ideas!

hello! i've lived in this apartment about a year now and am at a loss for how to fix this corner of our living room. our apartment is fairly small so the TV + corner desk have to stay where they are - but we can't figure out how to decorate the walls. i like my prints that are above the computer station but the outlet and light switch are sort of messing up my ability to put art above the TV. is there any other way to arrange this? or is the only solution to mount the TV? i'm worried that will just look worse with a bare entertainment center... thank you!

Hi everyone, I need help. My husband and I just moved into our new apartment. We downsized from a 2 bed 2 bath to 1 bed 1 bath. Not a big deal, just trying to figure it all out. But I'm stuck on the living room. The way we have it now is temporary. But, I feel like is the best layout.

I will be removing that small nightstand. We are just trying to get my husband an outdoor work space for his hobby.

Then, I think I will move the TV stand where the nightstand and desk are at right now, and have the couch facing the TV, where it will come out a little on the side.

My husband will like to basically swap where the couch and TV are. My issue with that layout is, the window glares on the tv and if the desks stays where it is at right now, it will be in the way of the bedroom entrance.

Some notes. I will be getting a new couch and new TV stand. But i can't decide what I'll get. My layout requires a smaller couch, whereas my husband's will allow for a bigger one. I will be keeping the TV I have now and as well as our coffee table. I tried my best to add pictures and kinda describe what we are thinking, but im just not sure what is best. Please help.

Yes I know they’re both too long. I’m planning on raising the curtain rod a few inches and hanging them a little wider.

Option A: light filtering terracotta. I got these first as a temporary solution until the “real” curtains came. I like that they add warmth and color into the room, but initially wanted something black out. They definitely look pretty orange when closed but it doesn’t really bother me. I’m leaning towards these but everyone else says option B

Option B: black out “earthy terracotta” that pulls more chocolate brown. I planned for these to be his actual curtains, but now that I have them up I’m wondering if they are too dark. I can’t tell if I’m just used to the more orange tone or if they actually do look redundant against his brown sheets and dark furniture.

We just moved in a week ago so I will add artwork to the walls at some point, but for now this is what we’re working with.

My son is at camp so I can’t ask his opinion yet, but would like opinions on which is more visually appealing. Thanks!!
