We ruined our 8 year friendship in a single afternoon

My best friend Sarah and I were inseparable since 11.Everyone assumed we were a couple, but we were genuinely jus best friends. Her parents were extremely strict, but because they trusted me, we were allowed to hang out alone.

When we were 18, I took a break from all friendships because I needed some space for personal reasons. We didn't talk for months. During that time, Sarah got really sick and spent few days in the hospital.she told her friends not to tell me, but one of them accidentally brought it up. So I bought her favourite stuff and went straight to her house.

When she opened the door, she pulled me straight to her room. We were yapping like before. But then she told me that everytime someone visited her in the hospital, she hoped it was me. She started hitting me with a pillow while crying. I pulled her into a hug and gave her a quick kiss on cheek.

Something happened. One thing led to another and we started kissing and touching. Then her mom knocked on the door and invited to lunch. We stopped immediately. Lunch was awkward and I left right after.

We never talked about it. Over the next few weeks at group hangouts, vibe was totally off. She became distant and eventually started ignoring me. I tried to fix things, but she kept pushing me away, so I gave up and we went silent.

Months later on my birthday, she texted me and she confessed that around that time, another friend had tried to force a kiss on her after she rejected him, which freaked her out and made her pull away for all guys.

When I brought up what happened in her room, she said " it was you. I don't care"

Yet she insisted she had no feelings for me. Even though we both knew that wasn't true. She then asked, can you at least just be my friend?

Looking at everything that had changed, I told her no, wish her well and cut all ties.

It's been few years , but every single year on my birthday, she still texts me a birthday wish from one of her friends' phones.

I told my cousin her fiance was cheating 3 days before the wedding and somehow I’m the one who “ruined everything”

My cousin was meant to get married last month, they had been planning it for over a year and it was a pretty big wedding. Venue was paid, dress was done, relatives were already flying in, my aunt had basically turned her whole house into wedding storage. There were boxes of decorations everywhere, I couldnt even sit properly in the living room without moving something. She was really excited too, like this wasnt one of those couples where everyone already knows theyre miserable, she genuinely thought she was marrying the love of her life.

About a week before the wedding I went out with a few friends and saw her fiance at a bar with one of the bridesmaids. I knew the girl obviously, not super close with her but ive met her loads of times. At first I didnt think anything weird because theyre both in the wedding and maybe they were sorting something out, plus there were other people around. Later on though I went outside to get some air and saw them near the side entrance kissing. Not a quick drunk mistake either, they were properly all over eachother and his hand was under her top. I just stood there for a few seconds thinking surely im seeing this wrong because WHO does that a week before their wedding, in public aswell??

I took a short video because I knew nobody would believe me without proof, especially that close to the wedding. I didnt confront them, partly because I was honestly shocked and partly because I didnt want them deleting messages or making up some story before I spoke to my cousin. The next morning I called my aunt first because I thought she would help me figure out the least horrible way to tell her. Instead she asked me to wait until after the wedding. She kept saying they had already spent nearly 30k, guests were travelling, everything was non refundable and maybe it was just one stupid mistake before marriage.

I thought she was joking at first, like genuinely. Then my mom called me and said basically the same thing, that my cousin was already stressed and telling her now would “humiliate the family.” I understand the timing was awful, I really do, but I couldnt stand next to her at that wedding knowing what I knew. I couldnt watch her marry him, take photos, sign everything and then tell her once the catering had been eaten because apparently that would be more convient for everyone else.

So I went to her apartment and showed her the video. She watched it twice, asked me to send it to her, then went into the bathroom and stayed there for nearly an hour. I was honestly scared she had fainted or something but she eventually came out and just said the wedding was off. The next day he admitted it had been happening for months, not once like everyone kept assuming. Apparently it started around the engagement party, which is also when that bridesmaid was helping my cousin choose decorations and acting like her best friend. I still cant wrap my head around that part.

My cousin keeps telling me I did the right thing and that she would never forgive me if I let her marry him knowing the truth. Somehow half the family are still angry with me though. My uncle said I shouldve confronted him first and given him a chance to explain, my aunt keeps bringing up the money they lost, and my mom said I “dropped a bomb” and then left everybody else to clean it up. I didnt leave anyone to clean anything up btw, I helped call guests, returned things, sat with my cousin for days and even dealt with his family when they came over arguing. But because I was the person who showed her, theyre treating me like I caused it.

The bridesmaids parents also asked me to delete the video because its damaging their daughters reputation. My cousin told me not to, incase either of them starts lying about what happened, so I havent. Now thats apparently me being cruel and trying to punish people. I havent posted it anywhere, havent sent it around, literally the only people who have it are me and my cousin.

I know some people will probably say I shouldve let him tell her himself, but what was I supposed to do, give him a deadline?? “Hey tell her by friday or I will” so he can cry, delete everything and convince her it was some innocent misunderstanding? Maybe I handled parts of it badly because I was panicking, but I dont regret telling her before the wedding. I regret that she got hurt, I regret that everyone lost money, but I didnt make him cheat and I didnt make the bridesmaid betray her.

Still somehow im the one who “ruined the wedding” and not the man kissing a bridesmaid 7 days before marrying someone else. Right okay.

i stopped reminding my boyfriend about anything just to see how long it would take for his life to fall apart

2.9k Upvotes

i’ve been with my boyfriend for almost 4 years and for basically the entire relationship i’ve been the person remembering EVERYTHING for both of us. birthdays appointments rent his car service stuff for work his moms medication literally all of it. he always says hes “just bad with dates” and im naturally more organised so somehow it slowly became my job i guess

a few months ago we had an argument because i forgot to remind him about his brothers birthday dinner. mind you this dinner was mentioned in the family gc like 50 times. he still got annoyed at ME because apparently i “knew he would forget” and couldve just reminded him before he made other plans

LIKE WHAT?? idk something about that pissed me off so badly. not even the birthday thing itself but the way he said it like remembering his own life was some service i suddenly stopped providing so i decided fine. im not reminding him about anything anymore

i didnt announce it because UGHHH i already knew he would say im being dramatic. i just quietly stopped. no “dont forget your dentist tomorrow” no reminding him about insurance payments no telling him we were nearly out of cat food no checking his work schedule for him. if he asked me something directly i answered but i stopped volunteering information like im some personal calendar with tits

the first month was honestly a DISASTER

he missed his dentist appointment and had to pay a cancellation fee. forgot to buy his co-worker a birthday gift until the literal morning of and then blamed shipping times?? ran out of clean work shirts twice because apparently the laundry basket usually empties itself through divine intervention. he got a late fee on one of his bills and spent like an hour ranting about how companies “make due dates confusing on purpose”, and this is the part that makes me feel horrible but i enjoyed it

not like evil villain laughing while he suffers but every single time something went wrong i felt this tiny bit of satisfaction because FINALLY it proved i wasnt imagining how much stuff i do for him. he kept saying he was having the most stressful month ever and i was sat there thinking no babe youre just experiencing your own responsibilities without me putting pillows under every consequence

then last week he missed an important work meeting because the time changed. he showed me the email and said “you saw this too why didnt you tell me”
i said because its not my meeting, he just stared at me and later said he feels like i dont care about him anymore because “partners are supposed to help each other”

and YES obviously they are but helping someone and basically managing their entire existence are not the same thing?? how did we reach a point where me not monitoring a grown mans emails is emotional neglect

i still havent told him this was intentional from the start. he thinks ive just been distracted lately

now i feel guilty because technically yeah i couldve prevented most of this. it wouldve taken me like 10 seconds to remind him. but i also feel like if i start again then NOTHING changes and im gonna be 70 years old reminding this man where his glasses are while theyre literally on his face

i love him i really do but i dont want to be his mom. at the same time secretly watching someone fail just to prove a point is kinda insane behaviour so idk maybe im the problem too

but how hard is it to remember your own dentist appointment genuinely??

I cheated in my dreams and it solved a problem

Some six years ago I was broken up with by what I thought would be the love of my life and I was never quite the same after. It was the first time experiencing true, violently overwhelming love, and watching that end outside of my own control truly changed something deep inside of me. Over the last two years I've done some work to actually move on, and I felt successful, but still every relationship after felt flat by comparison. That is, until I met my current girlfriend; and that feeling came back. I've fallen for her, uncontrollably, deeply, and the happiness I always had is now being shared.

A few nights ago I dreamt and somehow found myself in the same city as where that girl from six years ago lived; I dreamt that I cheated on my girlfriend, with this person - we kissed. I felt terrible. Not just because I cheated and that's an evil thing to do; but because I felt like I ruined my life. Like everything I had going for me had been burnt to the ground, by myself, with only me to blame. Everything good and innocent had just been wiped out I was left with nothing but a churning stomach and a bad taste in my mouth. In my dream, I was faced with a decision: stay with my current girlfriend on whom I just cheated, or rekindle with this old ex. The only defined thought in my head was this: I do not actually want to rekindle things with this ex. I want my girlfriend. She's all I want. But I ruined it; I cheated. It can never be what it was. And even still, I did not want my ex - I wanted what I had already, all this time, but it's out of reach now.

And then, mercifully, I woke up. Soaked in cold sweat and gratitude, that these ruins existed only in my dreams . I gave my girlfriend a kiss, who stirred slowly, turned around and threw her leg around me, and I felt strangely stressed out by an overwhelming peace. I feel liberated from the prison cell I had carefully constructed in my own mind for over six years.

I switched my sister's wedding playlist song at the reception and nobody has figured it out two years later

This has been sitting with me for two years. I've never told anyone, including my sister.

At her wedding I was in charge of the reception music, running the laptop during dinner and later during the open floor. She'd made a whole playlist, every song picked for a reason. Inside jokes with her husband, family memory songs, stuff like that.

One song was in there because it reminded her of her college boyfriend, not her husband. She probably didn't think anyone would notice, just a title buried in a long playlist. But I knew the story because she told me years ago during a late night phone call after they broke up. I don't think she remembered telling me, or that the song was still sitting in an old playlist she'd reused parts of.

About an hour before it was set to play, I sat there with the laptop trying to decide if this was my business at all. I didn't want to bring it up to her, that felt like it would ruin the night over something she probably wasn't even thinking about. But I also didn't want that song playing at her wedding to someone else. So I swapped it for another track later in the list with a similar feel, moved a few things around so it wouldn't stand out, and nobody noticed in the moment.

She never brought it up after. I don't know if she never realized, or noticed and just let it go. Her husband has no idea any of this happened. I've almost told her a few times since, usually after a couple drinks at family stuff, but I never know what it would actually fix at this point.

It still crosses my mind sometimes, usually when that playlist comes on at some family event and I hear the swapped song instead. I think I did the right thing. It still feels strange that I quietly edited someone else's wedding without them ever knowing.

Family secrets are infuriating

This is not a recent thing in my family, but a decades old open secret that no one wants to talk about. Much deserved. It is a well-known thing in my family, and I think most of us cousins around the same ages grew up hearing about some different versions of it.

So what happened is that my aunt let's call her savannah, who is my mom's older sister, had her husband cheat on her. But it was more than that. The betrayal was that it was with her own sister. Yes, he slept with my younger aunt (my mom and Aunt savannah's younger sister). This changed our family for the worst, and the rest was history. It fucked up dynamics and ruined relationships but that wasn't it all. My aunt Savannah finds out later that he got her pregnant. At this point, she was just tired of his cruelty and irresponsible ass. He was older and was "seen" as the one who should have known better but his trifling ass didn't just stop at one thing but now my family had to deal with the consequences of his stupidity and mediocrity. There is the understanding that he preyed on her in some way.

Long story short: my aunt Savannah got that baby's custody since her younger sister wasn't deemed as a person to raise a child, and no one wanted to do anything with him. My aunt got a divorce from him 🙏 and eventually got full custody of the baby that perhaps some people would say "ruined her marriage" but she wasn't looking at it like that, she looked at him with so much love and tenderness knowing he deserved better than these two people. Today, he is all grown up, and we all have a great relationship with him. His "dad" is not much of a presence in our family even though my aunt's other kids do have contact with him except for him. And as for his biological mom, she has never tried to be a mom to him. He was raised by Aunt Savannah alongside his other half siblings from his so-called dad.

I found out my friend’s secret and I’m unsure of what to do

Hey guys, this happened about two weeks ago, and I’m really unsure of what to do, so what better place to ask than Reddit?
My friend Jennie, who I’ve only gotten close to over the last few months, told me a secret. Normally, I would just leave it alone, but I never expected her to tell me what she did.
For context, we’re in high school. My friend acts very mature for her age—not in the way she speaks, but in the things she does. About a year ago, she was off school for a day, and when she came back, she told me and another friend that she had done “Netflix and chill” (aka had sex). I was shocked, to say the least, because she’s under 18. While talking about it, she also said it wasn’t her first time, which was quite concerning. She also mentioned that her mother once caught her boyfriend hiding in her wardrobe, although he was fully dressed. She suspected her mother knew what had happened but said she would never tell her father because he would go crazy.
After a while, I asked her a few times when the “other time” was. Every time, she would reply with, “Oh, I can’t say,” or she’d make up an excuse. Then one day, while we were walking to a lesson together, she finally told me. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting.
She started by saying that she knew the person well. Then she told me it was her cousin. At first, I thought, “Oh my God, this girl is a freak.” But then she said she didn’t want it and that it was rape. At that point, she told me she was only around 11 or 12 years old when it happened because it was a long time ago.
I was completely shocked. I asked her if her parents knew, and she said, “No. I never told them because my mam has a good relationship with my auntie, and it would really mess things up.” I then asked if anyone else knew, and she replied, “No, you’re the only one.”
Don’t get me wrong—I’m glad she finally felt able to tell someone, but this is a huge secret for me to keep, and I honestly don’t know what to do. She also mentioned that she still sees that cousin because they used to be very close and have sleepovers. She said she couldn’t suddenly refuse to see him without people asking questions, so she still has to be around him sometimes. She tries to keep her distance, but her cousin is only about two or three years older than her.
I’m worried about what could happen if they’re around each other again. She’s having a big birthday party next year with around 50 people, and her cousin will be there. Part of me feels like someone should know in case she’s at risk, but at the same time, I don’t know if it’s my secret to tell.
I came here because I need an outside opinion. Please don’t judge me or my friend—I genuinely just don’t know what the right thing to do is.

I don't know why I'm crying.

I'm 62 years of age, and, for most of that time, I have not really had access to my emotions the way other people seem to. I don't really feel happiness, and, when my mood stabilizers are working, I don't usually feel all-encompassing rage or overwhelming depression. Just nothing. Over the decades, I've learned to fake happiness or concern or whatever the moment calls for, because I know that I live in a society with people and those are the kinds of things that normal people feel.

This has been going on for 45 years or so, both while I'm on medication and while I'm off it.

Skip to yesterday afternoon. I was flipping around on YouTube and I encountered a clip of the "My friends, you bow to no one" scene in The Return of the King, a movie I have seen innumerable times since it first came out. As I watched Aragorn take a knee in honor of the hobbits, I felt something wrong with my eyes, and I cannot stress strongly enough how surprised I was to find that I was crying. What the hell...? I didn't know what to do with the information.

Today I watched the scene in Avengers: Endgame where all the good guys start coming out of the portals, and I see the weary relief in Cap's whole being, knowing that he wasn't going to have to carry the weight of fighting Thanos all alone any more.

I started crying. I'm crying now as I type this.

I don't know what's going on. I've wanted to feel emotions the way others do, but I don't understand why this has happened so suddenly. I'm also wondering how far this will go. I don't have any experience marshaling strong emotions.

I'm confused and, to be honest, a little concerned. What's happening?

My thoughts on the black and white perspective

Upvotes

I don’t know where else to put this but I wanted to share my thoughts. I think a lot about the black and white perspective in America and we as black people often explain how white people should try to see things from our perspective but I as a black person try to see things from white people’s perspective as well. I think it it’s important for us to try to know how they think.

I feel like we all have our own problems but one of the things that white people can do is forget that race exists, this is because their race will never be a negative consequence for them in their lives. Black people aren’t afforded this option. We may try to do this but we will eventually run into a person who mistreats us because of how we look. Or we just may not get the things or opportunities a white person gets because of how we look. I think white women will understand this, men can forget SA exists because they will likely never face it, but women cannot because the terrible possibility is always there.

I understand it is difficult for a white person to be an ally for black Americans, they have no incentive to care about another group’s issues since what we go through doesn’t impact them. It also destroys their accustomed worldview that racism is gone and over with. They don’t have to learn the same harsh lessons that we learn at young ages. There’s also the uncomfortable feeling of siding with another group over your own in racist encounters which is a feeling that’s challenging for them. It takes a person with high social and emotional intelligence and a willingness to be empathic about other people’s issues. Which is difficult for any group. I don’t expect white people to be allies or vigilant against racism. I just expect them to not mistreat me for what I look like or because of their own past experiences.

Of course, I can try to understand things from a white person’s perspective but there’s some things I will probably never understand. I don’t know why they tend to get riled up and aggressive in groups when around a token black person. That’s probably a thing that’s beyond my understanding since being white is not my lived experience. I try my best but this is a piece of my interpretation.

Nobody knows how desperate and lonely I actually am

I feel so lonely and desperate for companionship and love. Age 40 and have never been in a relationship. Last time someone asked me out was 12yrs ago. I knew it wasn't a good fit and he made me uncomfortable, so I said no.

Since turning 35, I get deeply depressed very regularly at the fact that I am no one's priority. I have no one to love and take care of.

I just feel really pathetic most of the time.

In my work and everyday life I present a persona of confidence and show thoughtfulness and strategic thinking.

I tell everyone who asks that I don't mind being single and I'm happy. I don't even try to put myself out there anymore because the rejection and disinterest of guys worsens the pain of my loneliness.

Life is rough

I recently started a new job as an Executive Chef for a new hotel. The place is so mismanaged it's made me want to leave the hospitality industry. Like just quit this career. But also I don't really know anything else or good at anything else. The owner doesn't come from this kind of background and he doesn't let his team take care of the things that need to be taken care of. All he does is micromanage. I really just want to leave them high and dry but that's not how I am and never will

Letting my husband shave me was the most intimate, erotic experience

I posted earlier about a little thrill I had in auto and feeling so emboldened by getting that off my chest, I want to share something much more intimate.

Last Sunday, it was pouring rain, trapping me and my husband inside our house. I decided to tidy up my pubic hairs down there and headed to the bathroom. To my surprise, my husband followed me. He leaned against the doorframe, watching me for a moment, before asking in this low voice if he could do it for me.

I hesitated but the look in his eyes made me melt. I said yes.

While laying back and letting him take the razor was intoxicating. The contrast of the cool and warm deliberate hands had my skin tingling. He was so focused, spreading me open with firm, confident fingers, being a little rough but so careful with the blade. Every slow stroke of the razor sent a shiver straight up my spine. I was completely at his mercy and I was incredibly, embarrassingly wet.

When he finished, he leaned down to place a soft, warm kiss right on my freshly bare skin and I nearly lost it.

I asked if I could return the favor. He agreed, sitting back and letting me take control. Tracing the razor around his balls feeling his breath hitch as I handled him, was an absolute horny trip. It was the best decision I made that day. I ca say I enjoyed it so much, it’s definitely going to be a regular routine for me now.

Just thinking about the next rainy day gets me worked up.

I think the world would be better off without me

Upvotes

Before we get started, no, I am not actively thinking of doing anything, and I am seeing a therapist.

This is me venting.

In the past year, everything that could go wrong, has. I have been institutionalized. Arrested. Un- or underemployed. Wife cheated on me. Car problems. Financial impossibilities. Nonstop minor let-downs and disappointments. Nuclear option of having to work out of town.

Basically, my life has been set to Murphy’s Law difficulty. It’s almost like a curse of incremental misfortune, cranked to eleven.

Everyone suffers because of me. No one benefits from my existence. Me being alive only causes sorrow or disappointment. The world would be better off without me in it. Wife would celebrate my death. Friends would easily forget. Parents would get their financial stability back.

I am nobody’s loss.

Again, not saying I am going to do anything, and I am seeing a therapist. Just venting and needed a void to scream into.

I once set someone up to attack me.

Many years ago now but in short:

I was seeing a girl for 18 months. I then discovered she was cheating on me. I kicked her out and dumped her and she remained with this guy. They met at work.

We both worked in the same city centre and as you do, you start work around the same time. I knew her pattern a bit. Anyway I saw she was with that guy a few times on their way to work.

Anyway I was still pissed off with the whole thing. He knew she was with me. She was just as bad of course. I orchestrated it so that not only would we bump into each other, but that we would do so in an area where I knew there were lots of cctv cameras. Words were said and this guy got aggressive. I remained calm on the surface but the words I said were to wind him up further. I wanted him to attack me in the centre.

He did, I fought him off - in defence. Then I pressed charges against him and gave his work address where the police arrested him on site. He lost his job and has a criminal record.

Insanely attracted to my chubby wife.

M34 F34. South Asian. Things were just bland for a long time but lately I feel super horny and attracted to my wife. I have multiple fantasies about her but she's super busy to reciprocate. It's getting insane how attractive I find her now, I even feel like showing her off in public but she's not open to it yet I guess. I told her about the recent developments but she thinks I'm just sweet talking. She has good libido but kinda busy lately. Just wanted tognet this off my chest lol.

I have been secretly ruining my brothers reputation for three years and I don't think I will ever stop.

Upvotes

Everyone thinks my older brother is a saint. He is the "Golden Child" of the family. He is a successful lawyer, he volunteers at a dog shelter, and he is engaged to a woman who looks like a model. My parents talk about him like he is the second coming of Christ while they barely remember my birthday.

But I know the real him. I know that he cheated on his first girlfriend for a year. I know he stole money from our grandma ten years ago to pay for a spring break trip. I tried to tell my parents once and they called me a jealous liar.

So now, I play the long game. Every time he gets a big break or a new job, I send an anonymous tip to his employers or his friends. I don't make up lies. I just send evidence of the things he actually did. I sent his law firm a copy of the disciplinary report from his college that my parents helped him hide.

He just lost a massive promotion and he has no idea why. Watching him cry about "bad luck" is the only thing that makes me feel better. I should of moved on with my life, but the resentment is just ABSOLUTELY too strong. I want him to feel as small as he made me feel for twenty years. Why is this even a thing?
