VII - Discussion Wait so I’m punished for razing AND for keeping if it goes over settlement cap?
So what are you supposed to do if you play domination?
VII - Discussion Civ 7 Deluxe and Standard are both 50% off on Steam
Is the deluxe worth the price now? or should I just get the standard? I've only played civ6 and really liked it. I'm not sure what's the state of this game right now.

VII - Strategy Eliminate civ at the end of era or leave them with one settlement? (CIV 7)
As the title says
Eliminate civ at the end of era or leave them with one city/town?
In previous civ games I would leave them with one city - does it make sense to do that now or benefits to destroying them outweigh negatives in the next era?
Equally does it make sense to grab nearly every city or a) raze some b) trade back the poorer settlements
VII - Screenshot Xerxes + Dai Viet + Hillforts is a rather fun combo
R5: spamming hillforts in antiquity works wonders with Dai Viet since they count as fortification improvements.
Could have had some really good adjacencies with my wonder layout, but I couldn't bring myself to overbuild those juicy hillfort yields lol. Only sad thing is you're not getting the Serpent Mound with this combo since tropical and grassland rarely (never?) spawn near each other.

VI - Discussion Mali’s ability feels more like a disadvantage than an ability?
I can’t seem to get the hang of the Mali. I play on Immortal level and have won as all but 10 leaders, including Mansa Musa and Sundiata Kieta
The -30% toward units and buildings is a killer, and mines only get 1 production. Their gold bonuses aren’t nearly enough when all the AI is ahead of you because libraries take 40 turns and you have to buy all of your units.
With Portugal, you’re printing money and have no production debuffs.
Do any Mali players have any advice ?

Game Mods Give me suggestions for my Civilization 1 remake!

I'm working on a replacement engine for Civilization 1. This will be a free, open-source project that will require the original DOS Civilization files to run. I intend to add a bunch of (optional) improvements, including visible civilization borders like you see above.
What other improvements to Civilization 1 would you like to see?

VII - Other PSA: Fix for slow initial load time for Civ 7 (PC)
This solution (excluding Civ 7 from Windows Defender scans) reduced my initial save game load time from well over a minute to ~10 seconds. Your mileage may vary, but I thought I'd help spread the word:

Here are the instructions from the final comment in the linked thread:
- Virus & Threat Protection (you can use search in start menu to find it)
- Manage settings under the header Virus & Threat Protection Settings
- Add or remove exclusions under the header Exclusions (all the way at the bottom)
- Add an exclusion
- Folder
- Select folder after browsing to the main directory of Civ VII installation (you can also find the path through Manage -> Browse local files in Steam)

VII - Discussion Idea for Religion in Civ 7 - Denominations!
What if we rolled over most of the religious system from Civ 6 esp the religious combat system. Then the big change would be that the maximum number of starting religions would be:
- Duel: 1
- Tiny: 2
- Small: 3
- Standard: 4
- Large: 5
- Huge: 6
All civs can found a religion but any founded after the starting number would be considered a denomination of one the starting religions. More than one denomination of a starting religion can exist in a game.
In the exploration age which corresponds to the biggest time period of religious conflict, any civs of the same religion but different denomination would have a -10 point hit (heretic penalty) to the relationships score between them. Additionally, once all four starting religions are founded, civs that have founded a starting religion can designate one heathen religion, which results in a -20 point hit (heathen penalty) to the relationship score. In the modern age the heretic penalty to other denominations goes down to zero and for heathen religion scales down to -10.
I'm sure more mechanics could be tacked on to the denomination system but it would at least introduce more dynamic gameplay in the exploration age that tracks closer to real world events during that time period (400 AD to 1750 AD).

VII - Discussion Xerxes Personas
Xerxes the Achaemenid is better than Xerxes King of Kings for playing Achaemenid Persia and I'm tired of pretending he's not. The extra gold boost from Unique Improvements makes it so you can field a large army of cavalry in the antiquity age, ignoring the maintenance cost hurdle most leader/civ combos have. Grab yourself an appropriate city state or two for the unique improvement yields you desire, and watch the gold and culture stack up over the age as you grow and place more of them alternating with Pairidaezas. The overflow of gold will allow you to field more cities and urban centers than King of Kings could hope to.
War? That's not a problem when you can buy in expensive cavalry as soon as you grab The Wheel. Be sure to build Terracotta Army early because you'll most likely be getting a free commander from a narrative event. This will bring your total of commanders up to 3 without ever hard building one. Most of the AI will only have 1 or 2 tops and they don't know how to use them anyway. You can have 12 units packed in these bad boys and a company of cavalry riding with them. You'll likely have warriors left over from early barb skirmishes to upgrade into immortals and fill up space. Immortals are a weaker unique unit, but they're bodies to fill up spaces and deny enemy movement and with the Persian traditions they'll be beefier and dirt cheap to maintain.
Culture won't ever be an issue. You'll be able to snipe the wonders you want rather easily when you have every unique improvement generating culture. Heian Japan will outshine you, but that goes for most civs in most situations.
What about science? I'm playing a deity game right now where I ignored the scientific city state and opted for the economic one and the militaristic one. I grabbed Emporiums and the settlement cap. I didn't build a library until I already had Dur-Sharrukin built to deny it to my opponents and defend my capital from the AI that surrounded me on 3 flanks on a tight pangaea. Due to conquest of two capitals I'm in second place for science near the end of antiquity. My hordes of cavalry and 3 commanders allowed me to fight a defensive war against Blackbeard and an offensive one against Ashoka World Conqueror at the same time with ease, all while gaining valuable commander levels. I rushed Tier 3 units instead of Academies as well. Grab the Step Pyramids for most playthroughs to balance out your yields, as long as you have enough tiles to place them, but if you're good at war you don't need them.
I have Xerxes level 10 and this is my first time trying Achaemenid. I'm never touching King of Kings again, unless it's to Assyrian my way to 20 future techs without causing towns to go negative yields.
Question How difficulty works in this game in MP?
As far as I researched, that difficulty works in MP is that below Prince buffs the player and anything beyond buffs the AI or something like that. And usually changes only for the player with a chosen diff.
I played this game very little before and vaguely known how things work and I got this game finally with all DLC's to play with friends. They are veterans and just wanted me to play together of course guiding trough it. They said to choose a difficulty "Immortal" and there will be not much differences, just less bonuses, so I don't really know I somehow not sure how to look at it, but usually when I play with them, it is really hard to outrun the AI that we also have put to play against. There was once a situation when I was planning to attack a civilization and planned for so long to secure an army just to get it defeated because AI had literally one age above units than mine, it didn't even matter if my military strength was a little higher as well.
(plus I kept forgetting that attacking with melee units first is a bad idea before destroying walls). So how does it work? Im trying to balance economics and military, but AI rapidly builds cities, have lots of armour and everything, I have no idea how.
I'm thinking to reduce the difficulty because maybe it influences that actually?

Welcome to paradise, the humblebrag where I may be stuck for a looooong time. Yes, that is the Bermuda Triangle southeast of my first DL town. I'm EdReach and about to yeet an armada of cogs at my new frenemies!
Up front - that Very Serious Dialog Box is a troll. It's from Firaxis Crash Reporter, which I noticed reviewing the screenshot (I staged its location, shot again). Game is still playable, but "ahhhh, what a great savegame I should share, awwww it crashed?!?" trolled me, so I trolled you. Sorry.

VII - Discussion Civ 7 in my opinion is worse that civ 6
After a couple hundred hours of civ 7 and thousands of hours on civ 6, civ 7 plays terribly it seems more like an arcade game than a strategy game but the graphics in 7 is beautiful I wish 6 would just get updated graphics cause civ 6 plays awesomly and feels more like a strategy war game
