Picked up a 5D Mark III second hand on eBay ($350, 66k shutter count, included a new LP-E6NH canon battery)

There’s something about the ergonomics and the sound of a DSLR that I’ve really missed since my old 80D.

I’ve been shooting an R6 Mark II professionally for the past three years and I absolutely love that camera, but I’ve heard such great things about the 5D series that I wanted a second body offering a completely different shooting experience from what I’m used to.

Anyone else keep a DSLR around alongside mirrorless?

Got this new to me fisheye Rokinon 8mm 3.5 and absolutely blown how sharp and contrasty it is. Any creative ideas for use cases are highly appreciated.

I was looking for a Canon R5 on marketplace and eBay. I bought my R8 on eBay a few months ago and the experience was perfect. Fast-forward to last week and I saw an R5 listed for $1900 in “MINT condition” I checked on the seller and he had over 5000 positive feedbacks and was listed as a camera shop. When the camera arrived, I turned it on and immediately got error 000. I formatted a new card and swapped the battery and turned it on again. It came on properly. I hooked it up to the ShutterCount app on my phone and saw that it had 290,000 shutter clicks. I stuck one of my lenses on it and got error code 20. I looked up both of those errors and they’re both mechanical failures.

I contacted the seller and he agreed to take it back. Looking at the rest of his listings he has several cameras listed that have the shutter count listed, and they all happen to be extremely low Shutter Counts. The rest of his camera ads say either mint condition or very good condition. I’m wondering if those all have high shutter counts that he didn’t wanna divulge or if this is just an honest mistake.

Lesson learned on my part.

It all started with my Digital Rebel back in 2004. I got a bunch of lenses with it and loved using it. It was a great camera for the time, with it's Digic (not 2, or 3... just 'Digic'!) processor. Loved it, and took many many good photos with it.

Then in 2012 my beloved Rebel started having issues with it's shutter button, so I took that as an excuse to upgrade to a 7d. At the time, it was an amazing camera. It had *dual* Digic 4 and could shoot at 8fps, which was quite impressive. I took many more good photos with it.

Now, in 2026, I was getting into birding, and was getting frustrated with the autofocus system in the 7d. It had a tendency to get distracted by little branches or leaves between me and my subject, which is expected based on how it works. I've had it a long time and figured it was time for a new camera. I wanted to get a full-frame sensor for a long time, and this seemed like my time. The R6mIII's autofocus system is leaps ahead of anything my DSLRs could do. That last picture of the little bird would have been quite difficult to get, what with those leaves right around it. Plus being able to pre-capture to get 40fps captures of moments that I could never get before was quite the selling point!

But there was only one "problem". For birding, my 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L was fine with the 7d, but too short on a full-frame sensor, so the solution was an RF 200-800. I would like if it had FTM, or distance limiter that my L lens had, but it's beautifully sharp and has the reach to get those small bird shots.

I still don't like editing, so I try to get everything in-camera so I don't have to. One day I'll try that more...

For now, I'm rapidly running out of hard drive space, as I don't like deleting photos, and 40 32 megapixel photos (JPG and raw) when holding the button for a half second tends to fill things up. I picked the wrong time to need more storage!

Hello, I am by no means someone knowledgeable in the world of cameras, but the lens cover on my Canon IXUS 800 IS seems to be stuck and will not close. I have tried taking the battery out for more than an hour and putting it back in to try to reset the system, I have also tried using a thin piece of paper to try and dislodge the lens cover to no avail. The lens cover would get stuck like this in the past and the screen would display a lens error message when attempting to shut the camera off. However, this time there is no message on the screen. I am very confused as to how this may have happened because I did not drop it or put it in my pocket or anything, I got it out to take a picture and then all of a sudden this happened. There is a loud clicking sound when lens comes out upon turning the camera on. The lens cover opens properly, it just wont close all the way. After turning it off, if I press gently on the lens, it will close slightly more than before shown in the last 2 photos.

I’m looking to upgrade to an RF 70-200 just for the compact and easier to use. I currently have a 70-200 EF II 2.8 and I love it and it’s my favorite lens but it’s sometimes too big. Do I keep the 2.8 and get the 4.0 rf for compact trips or just sell and get the 2.8 rf? Amy real noticeably difference in quality between RF and EF?

For context: I have recently developed an interest in Photography after having bought an EOS 1100D used for $150 and played around with the Kit EF-S 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6 IS II and an EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM. I found that snapping photos of Ships in Harbors or at Sea to be incredibly fun and had decided pretty early on to start building up social accounts around archiving Ships using these photos. About 5 months ago I made a fairly poor decision to sell the 1100D and buy an EOS R7 with the Kit RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM. The results from this upgrade were frankly outstanding, though that's not to say I disliked the shots i got on the 1100D, for it's age I think it's a fantastic little body. I had made two additional purchases of the RF 50mm f/1.8 STM and the RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM,
My questions are thus:
- Is there much of a learning curve when it comes to Fisheye or Tilt Shift lenses? TTArtisan makes some rather affordable ones that have piqued my interest, And I'd love to experiment with these unique lenses.
- Are manual-only lenses straightforward to learn? I'm not too good at manual shooting currently and I rely on Av heavily, but am very slowly learning how to properly use manual mode.
- Are there any techniques you could share to take better night photos? From my understanding, the nifty fifty I have should be good for night photography, but all I get are blurry, smeared messes. I've capped my camera at no higher then 12800 ISO but even then images I get are noisy.
- What are some good brands of Tripods? I'm using a cheapo one that can't even handle a light breeze and it makes long exposures a chore for me.
- Recommendations for camera bags? I'm using, again, a cheap bag that can just about fit the 100-400 and the 18-150 in it, but it's a tight fit and they press against each other roughly, which I dislike.

Recently purchased a used canon 100-400 mkii the focus ring rattles when shaken.theres not an issue with the IS or autofocus Its just a loose focus ring. It only moves about 1mm or less however creates a rattle sound. The focus is still smooth however.Anyone had the same issue and is it worth getting checked out?

I was looking at the RF 16mm f2.8 stm since its very cheap but i have read the corners of the lens arent the best. Any users of that lens that can tell me how it performs? Or maybe some recommendstions for other budget options(i have an ef adapter).my buget is below 400 euro(preferably less and second hand is fine!)

Hello there, I've been in search for a LPE17 battery for my EOS77D. Ive been quite hesitant with buying a third party battery, though i found this one from "HomeSuit". A doublepack with dual charger.

I found no long term reviews on anything from them, but the 1300mAh are quite tempting.

If anyone got some insight or experience on those or if i should stick to original batteries, I'd welcome your help.

Im looking to upgrade my canon 450d for something faster, but I dont have a huge budget as im just a hobbyist. Any recommendations? I have around 2000$ for my budget, but can spend a little more if needed. Along with that id like to buy two new lenses, one 18-200 mm or something along that and a bigger zoom lens (300-400mm, but I haven't done a lot of research on that), so any lens recommendations would be great as well.

Id like something with a similar feel to my current canon which is partly the reason why id like to stay with a DSLR. Thanks for any help.

I had just gotten a eos rebel t7 and i can’t get it to focus no matter the zoom. Any tips or tricks? I’m using the 18-55 lens that came with it.
Should I just buy an upgraded lens or am I missing some steps?

Looking for some advice / confirmation that the next step is to get a proper repair with Canon or not

Got an EOS M50 that I've taken on a number of trips abroad over the past 2yrs. Have had no issues with it whatsoever and its not had any drops or hard knocks. Had it sitting in its protective carry bag for a few months before pulling it out to use it again in Italy a few months ago. Worked with no issues on the first day (pretty much sunny weather, no rain or high humidity) but then on the second day shortly after powering on it just randomly powered off. Flicked the power switch off then back on again but no luck. Tried everything I could find on Google but nothing has helped (tried removing SD card, tried removing battery, tried new battery, tried freshly charged battery, tried removing lens, tried leaving power switch on for 30s to drain caps, tried manually holding down the micro switch with toothpick with battery inserted). Obviously with it not powering on there's no error code to check.

Any other ideas I could try, or any ideas what the fault might be?

R6 mk 2 + RF 100-400. I really couldn't believe it was catching dragonflies zipping around and able to focus. It only missed focused on the black/white winged one, they're extremely erratic. I'm not going to post pictures of my kids but I captured some incredible shots of them playing on the water as well. Plenty of bokeh and separation when the background is sufficiently far away even at f9+

I recently purchased an RF 50 mm F1.4 VCM lens and when I went to switch lenses today, I use the rocket blaster to clean it before putting a cap on

But as I was blowing the air, I accidentally touched the rear lens and it left a scary looking mark on it. I’m feeling very certain that it’s a smudge not a scratch, but I’m not sure how to go about cleaning this or trying to remove it.

Is the rear lens element any more fragile than the front element? I have some Zeiss lens wipes and a clean Japanese microfiber cloth. Am I safe to go ahead and clean it with those two things to see if I can wipe it off?

Hi, I have a question about cameras. I’d like to buy a new one but am not sure what the best choice would be. I was considering the Canon EOS 80D, but I wasn't certain if it was the right pick. I currently use my father's Canon EOS 1000D, but since the battery is deteriorating, I’m planning to buy a new body; I’ll be keeping my current lens—a Sigma DC 18-200mm for Canon. My requirements are that the camera must be capable of video recording (since I do a lot of plane spotting) and have a tiltable screen (as I sometimes use the photos I take as wallpapers).
It would be handy if the camera battery lasted a bit longer, since you tend to take a lot of photos when plane spotting; I would like to stick with the Canon brand. My budget is around 450 euros. I’d love to hear your advice.

Ive been shooting wildlife for awhile now, my current setup is an r7 with a 200-800. The reach is cool, though the performance is questionable. For small birds not moving its nice if they are already close, if not it gets ruined by heat haze. Autofocus is not that good(especially when the light is even slightly suboptimal) and the rolling shutter is very bad. Where i live the weather is also cloudy allot of the time and the keeper rate is pretty poor. Even on sunny days in nice lighting I feel like i always miss the best shots. And the keeper rate is not that good

So im currently planning to sell the r7 and buy a r6 mk ll, my question is if the reach will be enough for birding since i already have an 800 mm lens. The 24 megapixels are also scary.

Im afraid i will miss the reach of the r7 and still dont know if i really should sell it.

Anyone got experience or tips? Im a student so its all allot of money to me.

My plan was to also sell an old ef 70-300 is usm ll and a 7d so i could buy a nice landscape lens for my upcoming vacation, but now im also considering scrapping that plan and buying a r6lll though thats not my main plan.

Anyone got experience with the r6 mk ll when it comes to shooting wildlife and advice on what i should do?

I have the opportunity to send off a SL2 that I got for super cheap with a lens to be converted to full spectrum. Is there any reason wouldn't necessarily be a good Canon DSLR option to send off? I snagged it off of eBay with some minor screen damage on one side but I don't think it will affect much at all.

This seems like a decent candidate because it has the dual pixel focus, still has a decent 24 megapixel sensor even if it is a bit older in there is plenty of EF and EFS glass that I can use along with all the adapters in the world for vintage lenses. I know I would be restricted to pretty much only using the live view mode with some of the darker filters as well.

This all seem like a decent feature set at a really good price to send this off. I just don't know much about the Canon series once they switched to digital. If there's something I'm missing or didn't anticipate with a full spectrum conversion on this camera, please let me know! Thankfully the screen damage wasn't disclosed on eBay and the seller said they would take it back if I wanted so I can still do that if a different DSLR camera would be better.

Hello, just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem! I bought a used R6 off Facebook Marketplace with roughly 240K shutter actuations (yeah I know that’s a lot but I got it for a steal) and it functions great… in landscape. However, if I hold the camera vertically, it’ll take 3 or 4 shots before an error 20 message pops up and interrupts my shooting. However, when I orient the camera back to the horizontal and half-press the shutter, it’ll usually correct itself back to normal, albeit temporarily.

The camera works great otherwise and takes gorgeous pictures, this is the only issue I’ve had with it. I’m upgrading from an 80D so this is an absolutely insane jump in quality.

I’ve tried looking this specific vertical issue up online but I haven’t seen any similar cases. Has anyone had this issue before? Any solutions (besides replacing the shutter, which I currently assume I’ll have to do)?

EDIT: I know error 20 most often means shutter issues, just wanna see if anyone’s had this specific issue with vertical shooting.

I am about to go on a trip in a place with beautiful nature and little light pollution, so I'd like to experiment a bit with landscape and star photography.

I have a Canon EOS 400d (aps-c sensor) body, a cable release for long exps. and the following lenses:

- Efs 18-55 mm II f/3.5-5.6

- Ef 28-80 mm usm IV f/3.5-5.6

- Sigma uc 70-210 mm f/4-5.6 (but it only works at max aperture on digital eos cameras)

- Ef 50 mm stm f/1.8

Which one is the best for both things?

Especially between the 18-55 and the 28-80, is the faster autofocus on the 28-80 worth the crop factor?

hey there so I just inherited some really cool canon EF-mount lenses and am a complete beginner in photograph. I was just looking for some advice on what body to buy to go along with them. I don’t mind DSLR or mirrorless, my only criteria is that it is a hybrid camera and dual pixel AF in 4k. my budget for secondhand is on the low end of £500 - £1000. any recommendations of old pro quality bodies that have had a crazy price drop over the years?

I'm going to get a Canon R50 Twin Lens kit (so the 18-45mm and the 55-210mm) soon and I need a camera case for it, only a carry case not a really heavy duty case. Does anyone have any suggestions?
