R6 mk 2 + RF 100-400. I really couldn't believe it was catching dragonflies zipping around and able to focus. It only missed focused on the black/white winged one, they're extremely erratic. I'm not going to post pictures of my kids but I captured some incredible shots of them playing on the water as well. Plenty of bokeh and separation when the background is sufficiently far away even at f9+

6 years ago my Rebel T5 was stolen and I haven’t really been active in photography since. I happened to find a great deal on an R50 and I’m so excited. My next goal is to get a 100-400mm lens. I’m looking to get into some sports photography as I’m a newly retired rugby player.

A couple weeks ago, I found myself with the means and capability to purchase the RF 200-800mm lens at a very good price (new). Though I was concerned about my ability to use it handheld due to the size and weight. I was able to test it out in the store, and I was able to say that there was a good chance I would be able to.

I have early onset parkinsons, which colors how I take photos. To compensate, I use a tripod where possible, I shoot at faster shutter speeds, and I use auto ISO. I use the Canon R6m2 for my body for good noise levels, and the IBIS.

I used the lens in my backyard for a week, getting used to it, despite the poor light and shade. The last two photos were taken at home. However last weekend, the wife and I visited a local wildlife refuge, and all I brought was this lens, and I used it handheld.

It is a beast. It is big, it is heavy. I could only shoot for so long before I HAD to put it down and rest my arms. It is also glorious. Sharp and steady despite the tremors, for I was able to get in 'closer' then I ever had. I look forward to continues use of this huge, heavy, yet amazing lens.

Hello Redditors of Photography! As the title suggest Im torn between the two cameras, with EOS R7 with RF s18-150mm being a thousand pesos (20 dollar rounded) pricier as compared with EOS R8 with RF 24-50mm IS STM. I'm a beginner wanting to start this hobby, I went to the shop to feel both cameras and researched a bit about mirrorless camera, exposure triangle and other stuff. I've narrowed my choices from fuji x100vi, xt50, ricoh gr and sony a6700 for my starting kit.

I would like to hear your thoughts between the two, is it a good combo or should I buy just the body and buy separate lens? I've saved up 110k php( 1,780 usd) for this specific hobby. Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Sample images now added to post. *I ran some tests in the evening after sunset and was pleased with the image results so far. There was no hard vignetting, even with double-stacked UV+CPL filters in daylight shots. Some mild sky banding at 15mm from the CPL filter. Was able to track faces easily (and possibly more reliably) than the R6 Mark 1 - and the Eye-Detection/Tracking worked well, even more than 40 minutes after sunset. *Images are handheld and shot in JPEG... Mostly due to laziness since I was only shooting to test the new settings.

(no but seriously, bought it in the box with most of its equipment fully untouched for $20 at a goodwill. camera is fully in tact, and still shoots great pictures!)

I’m an amateur photographer, probably closer to the “beginner” end of the scale than the “experienced” end. So as an amateur, budget is always a consideration when investing in gear. Which makes what I’m sharing here a little weird… contra… odd in light of budget considerations.

I keep both a Canon EF 70 - 200L 2.8 and a Canon EF 70-200L 4 in my bag (neither of which are the IS versions, as my Canon R6 Mk II has IBIS). Why both when the 2.8 version should suffice by itself? A few reasons:

1. I do like to walk around my neighborhood and shoot what I see. The f/4 version is significantly lighter and thus a bit easier for my 70-year-old body to wrangle. Ditto for shooting outdoor sports and for when I travel.
2. I do use 1.4x and 2x extenders. Perhaps my copies of each lens are unique, but the f/4 seems to render sharper images with the extenders once I get away from the focal range and aperture endpoints of either lens. YMMV and I could be all wet here, but that’s what I see.
3. This one is a bit silly, but it’s still real - the f4 was the first lens I purchased (other than a kit lens set). We’ve taken a few good pics together and I’m emotionally attached. To be honest, I’m not sure I could part with it.

So what I’m wondering is whether any of y’all have a similar situation with lenses that “overlap” in your bag? And, if so, what are your reasons for doing so? Or am I riding the crazy train here all by myself? Comments welcome.

Help!! What are the best autofocus settings for weddings?

I recently got a R6 Mark II after hearing high praises for the autofocus, but I was massively let down at a wedding I shot recently. Even with people detection and eye detection it'd focus on everything else but the people in the frame.

I am entirely sure that it's an user error on my end. I tried back button focusing as well but had no luck. My firmware is up to date. Attached images show the current settings.

I am using the original Canon ef-rf adapter for my Canon 24-70 2.8L ii.

Heading to the Aquarium of the Pacific tomorrow and deciding on using either my RF 24mm 1.8 or RF 100mm L macro. Any tips for capturing nice detail shots?

This is my first L lens and an absolute dream of mine. So glad I saved up for it! The sharpness is incredible, but beyond that, it has a special look I can't even describe. The bokeh is dreamy, and the character this glass has is just beautiful. Honestly, my photos probably don't even do it justice haha.

Hi guys, i recently got gifted a canon m50 which though discontinued going from a eos 4000d feels like night and day the quality of life features.

Ive been mainly shooting friends sports matches and i want a better setup for this, i have a brilliant ND filter and a 50mm f1.8 II with an efs adapter so lighting currently is not an issue in the slightest, i’d like some more zoom i think so what lense should i be considering? I thought the 75-300 seemed like a cheap bargain but then saw the massive amounts of hate calling it the worst canon lense though not sure why so decided to steer clear of that.

Either way please don’t give me crazy recommendations of things that will break the bank too much (gbp and buying used is okay). Also this canera body was a gift and i intend to use it so please don’t recommend me a new camera body! It would be disrespectful to replace it so soon plus i quite like it!

So I didn't realize my Canon G7X was in a bag of mine, and I accidentally washed it with my laundry. It was in for 25 minutes and was in a hardshell case, so when I noticed it and took it out, it wasn't super wet, but I put it in a container of rice 2 days ago just in case and took out the battery and SD card. I took it out today, and the screen is pitch black. I took a picture and uploaded it to my laptop, and it looked normal. Everything appears to be functioning as normal except for the screen. I put it back in rice just in case for now. What should I do? Could this be repairable?

Hello, I recently upgraded my kit to a canon r6 m2. 

Wondering if anyone has experience using the Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM on the r6 with the EF-EOS R adapter?

I shoot a lot of low light so thinking the f1.8 would be more useful, but I’ve not really seen people talk about this lens on the R6, wondering if there’s a reason why? 

My question is - Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM vs Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM? 

Any other lens suggestions would be a nice bonus! I have the nifty fifty. I was eyeing up the 16-35mm but thinking this lens might be too big for me & if I should stick to what i usually shoot which is primes - 16, 28, 50. 

For context, I’m a professional photographer shooting a lot of BTS / events / festivals. My style is intimate / very DIY / run & gun approach, so my priority for kit is small but mighty!

Hi all!
I need advice on what I should do with my old digital Powershot ELPH110 HS and Powershot SD980IS. Both abruptly stopped working and show the same error message “lens error. restart camera.” I’ve loved these cameras so much, how convenient they are for traveling, and prefer the images and handling over an iPhone camera.

Ive looked into the canon repair service but since the models are so old, it doesn’t look like they could be repaired through canon at least. Any recommendations on what I should do if I’m invested in fixing them or should I just part ways?

Hi Everyone. Do we still have Canon shooters who shoot weddings with Cameras like 5D/6D? I have 5D M3 and 6D M1. I'm taking up my first wedding as a lead photographer with one second shooter (Nikon-planning on fixing it in post) I've worked as a second shooter in weddings before. Any advises would you give? I can see so many people shooting with R3/Rseries. I'm just curious. Thanks in advance.

I'm a hobbyist, with an aunt that is pro. She has told me that she s going to, free of charge, give me her 5ds which has an "unnoticeable" scratch on the sensor. I'm wondering if it's worth me selling my Nikon D7100, f mount 35 1.8, 18-250 f5.6 and 18-55 5.6 to buy lenses.

My main question is really if there is enough difference between the two to keep both. I mainly do a lot of photography for a youth organisation but also shoot animals, botanical, astro and am wanting to get into macro.

Hi everyone,
I've been using my setup mainly for wildlife photography (deer, boars, etc.), but I'm struggling with consistently soft, "mushy" images that lack fine details like fur texture, especially at medium to long distances.
My Setup:
Body: Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
Lens: Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary
What I've tested & ruled out:
1. Settings: Shot in RAW, kept shutter speeds fast around 1/800-1/4000, stopped down to the lens's sweet spot (f/8), and kept ISO reasonable (400 - 1600).
2. Technique: Tested both hand-held and on a solid tripod with OS turned OFF.
3. Focusing: Tested both Viewfinder Phase-Detect AF and Live View Dual Pixel AF (to rule out front/back focus issues).
4. Controlled Test: When I shoot a close-up test target (a bottle with fine text) outdoors at around 4–5 meters (13–16 ft), the text comes out tack sharp.
The Problem:
When shooting larger animals from a realistic distance (e.g., 15–40 meters away), even if the animal fills a decent portion of the frame, the images consistently lack micro-contrast and sharpness. Fur looks smeared instead of crisp, and the entire subject feels slightly out of focus or "hazy", even in Live View at f/8.
My questions:
1. Is this level of softness at 600mm mostly caused by atmospheric haze / thermal turbulence over longer distances, even on larger subjects?
2. Does the Sigma 150-600 C suffer a noticeable drop in sharpness near 600mm at longer focus distances compared to close-range targets?
3. Could there be an internal optical alignment / decentering issue that only shows up at longer focus distances?
Has anyone experienced similar soft-image issues with large animals or long-distance subjects on this setup? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I kinda miss the articulating screen, but I mostly wanted it for concerts and photojournalism, so this feels like a huge improvement. The 6D makes life through the viewfinder so much more enticing because it is sharp, vivid, and accurate. I'm excited to test it out at the next concert I go to!
