I made this bowl a while ago with some copiapoa but updated it with a couple of lophs. In a couple of weeks I'm entering it into a BCSS show where for the very first time there will be a dedicated habitat style class.

This guy did not want to push roots in soil, cut it back, waited a week to callus and placed it in water 2 days ago!

Went to repot my baby Bruce's dragon because it was sort of etiolating and the mix it was in didn't seem great, plus I just like knowing exactly what the mix is ya know? Found this and I'm heart broken. This looks hella bad to me. Should I cut this above the dark spot and reroot? Should I just put in a grittier mix and pray? I love this thing and I'd hate to lose it. I suck at this. 😂

My large 16inch ferocactus opened its first bloom today. Can't wait to see multiple open simultaneously

The first picture is from 2017 (taken from mom's Facebook). In 2021 the Great Texas Freeze took out most of our plants. Some recovered, but the majority of hers (all cacti) were goners. This thing had a large branch fall and take root and TOOK OFF between 2017 and 2021 so it was taking over this bed, but we can't find any pictures! And sadly we can't find any pictures of it blooming (though I know there were some!). Over the years she's been slowly removing its dead body and taking it to the curb or putting what she could in the trash. Recently she had me come help her clean out the cactus bed and remove the leftover stump that had been sitting untouched for almost 2 years. That's when I discovered that it had babies! So we potted them up and maybe one day, 10-20 years from now, it'll be back to it's former glory 🥲 (just not here because she plans on moving!)

Last month I saw this prickly pear laying on its back in a trash pile and wanted to see it come back to life. I let it sit for a couple weeks and potted it beginning July. I watered it after 2 weeks and boom. New growth.

Is he trying to say hi?

Can anyone enlighten me as to why my astrophytum is leaning? Just a couple of months ago it was still erected straight. I’m scratching my brain just for an answer

I have this lovely cactus that I replanted last month start to flower!

I’m assuming this means it’s happy? What happens after the flowering? Will it grow another cactus?

I think it’s super cool that the flower opens and closes based on the time of day and light exposure.

SW Michigan -- eastern prickly pear (opuntia cespitosa)

not sure if a critter caused this or what but its been present since the plant reinflated itself this spring. it caused one of the pads to fall off but that pad is now growing new pads of its own so idk if i really need to be that concerned? but im new to prickly pears so idk if this is a disease or pest or something other than just regular overwintering damage or curious critters taking a nibble.

This is an older picture she found on her Facebook as she was looking for pictures of a different cactus in that same bed. I had forgotten how much that thing bloomed when I lived there. I moved out in 2007 and I can remember it like this so often for about 5 years before I moved out. I'm not sure when this picture was taken but it was pretty recent. Well, "recent" considering she lost this cactus to the 2021 freeze here in Texas that pretty much took out all of our plants.

Bloomed for the past three nights

Hello everyone I got some really old cacti from an older collector and do not know how I should plant this one. It is really top heavy and the lower third is bent.. Should I cut it or plant it horizontally in a long planter? Abd does anyone know what kind of Cacti it is? Thanks in advance!!

I think it was given to me in 2017, really very old, from a private collection. The soil was already extremely compact then, I really didn’t have the courage to repot it, but the time has really come, since this year it hasn’t bloomed for the first time.

I need advice from experienced growers of large and old plants.🥲🫶🏻

I normally use a soil mix of leaf compost and charcol pieces for my Gymnocalyciums, but now I can't buy it anymore from my local nursery so I did a bit of research for alternative soil mixes. I run on a really low budget of personal collection for my Gymnos so the usual gritty mixes with pumice or perlite is not an option for me, so i decided to use a mix of cocopeat and topping rocks like akadama topping rocks. I plan to use 1 part of cocopeat and 3 parts of akadama but I am concerned by the fact that cocopeat holds the moisture longer than my normal leaf compost. Please share if you have experience using cocopeat as soil mix for Gymnocalycium and what is the best ratio of cocopeat and rock mix and how to prevent root rot from using cocopeat. Thank you for your time! The topping rock seen in the image of my newly purchased varigated Gymnocalycium is the one I plan to mix cocopeat with.
