Whether for their reputation, lineage, skill, or just bragging rights, who would you choose if it could be anyone?

Hey Reddit! Tum here but this time injured and with one arm, still making videos though hoping it will help your jiujitsu
Today; the reversed closed guard!
Reverse Closed Guard is one of my favorite positions for connecting modern leg lock entries, K Guard, 50/50 transitions, sweeps, and powerful submissions.

I was discussing techniques that "don't work" except when someone figures out how to make them work. I remember a guy who fought MMA back when (late oughts maybe?) who had a brutal head scissors submission that he finished belly down with just his head (or maybe head and a shoulder) touching the mat. He'd squeeze but also actually scissor his leg for the finish. It may have been Pride as I think I remember it being in a ring. Anyone know who I'm talking about and/or have a youtube link for one of those finishe?

I'm thinking to learn the k-guard as far as I see there's some techniques like the shotgun armbar that I like also the concept fo the k guard seems effective not only for bjj but also mma
But as far as I know is a guard that full potential is used for leg locks submissions it would be worth investing on the I guard even if I'm not a leg locker type of fighter? I wanna know how much invest on it

*sorry English isn’t my first language.*
25 year old newish blue belt here with a weird problem. over last year I have noticed more and more I am panicking when on bottom and breathing heavier than normal. I start to imagine suffocating and it’s like my panic brain takes over. I’ll do anything to get out of that position and pretty much give up.
if we start on bottom from beginning I am fine. but once I have picked up breathing it seems to kick in.
i think people in my gym are starting to notice and im very embarrassed. has anyone had this issue and how did you solve it? thank you
edit: thank you all for these amazing replies I just woke up to!! If I don’t respnd directly know that I appreciate greatly. I feel much hope today

Hi,
as mentioned in the title, my club is currently offering 20% off private classes with professor. I will buy a couple (3 individual hours), but Im
not sure if I should spend more. Price is 64€ instead of 80, which is reasonable and I have quite a few topics I need help with. I can buy now and actually have lessons throughout the next season.
Im not expecting a miracle or whatever, but essential what I am asking is, is it worth to buy like 10 hours and have like 2 classes each month? I know you might say if you got money go for it, but its not cheap by any means for me, but at the same time if I spend 30 hours a month on this and cant figure it out on my own I guess its worth it?
I train 3-4x a week but I feel like in some aspects I just can’t figure out on my own.

I wonder what are the personal ratios throughout different belts.
On average (lets say in the past several months)
- how often do you tap someone during sparring?
- how often do you get tapped
- how often does the time run out before any subs? (if you're using clock)

Ive been doing bjj for 2 months now and it was fun at the start and it is sometimes now but like its boring.
Im 16 so i go to the adult classes but the thing is is I aint no big man im abt 5'6 150 and im the weakest in the gym so I get ragdolled by everybody and it stops getting fun after a while like I js do drills and wait until rolling is over then leave bc rolling sucks ass when I cant even do anything im js getting fucked up

Hello, my son is entered in his first NoGi tournament with JJWL. We started competing recently (since April) and they've all been with Gi. This being his first NoGi tournament, my son wants to have a little fun with his rashguard and he loves Pokemon, so he wants to incorporate both. I don't see much information regarding rashbuards in the JJWL website. Would this be legal? He's a white belt.

I’ve had this gi for about 9 months, but I’ve only trained in it for around 5 months because I was injured for a while.
Here’s what’s driving me crazy is every now and then while I’m rolling, I catch a faint funky smell that I’m almost positive is coming from my gi. But if I stop and smell it afterward (or even before class), it just smells like fresh detergent everywhere. I can’t find the source of the odor no matter where I sniff.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Is there bacteria hiding in the fabric even though it smells clean, or am I losing it?
What finally got rid of it for you?
For what it’s worth, I just bought a new Hyperfly gi 😊, but I’d still like to save this one if I can.

Hey guys
I’m struggling against a specific half guard player at my gym. It’s not a traditional deep half where they are directly underneath my hips. Instead, they stay completely off to the side on their shoulder, pull my trapped ankle/leg into a tight clamp, and use an underhook combined with their top knee to torque/bump me forward and destroy my base.
Every time I try to backstep to clear the leg, they already have the leverage and I end up getting swept directly onto my back.If I can't backstep because my legs are tightly clamped, what are the best mechanical options to kill this? Should I be focusing on flattening their upper body first, or is there a way to clear the leg clamp without lifting my hips and giving up the sweep
Thanks

Hello all,
Hi, I am located in Central / mid town Phoenix. I am a TransGender Woman and I am looking to return to doing BJJ. I did it ages ago when I lived in Southern Calif and miss it. Any recommendations and why would be greatly appreciated.....
Thanks

I know a lot of smaller guys use a movement style game. But I personally have a ton of fun using a more pressure and control styled game. Are there any pros that are lighter with that style?
r/bjj • u/Tasty-Window • 1d ago
Anyone trained for years and never had one. Maybe it's just because I'm extra sensitive, I will always just move my head instead of letting my ear get squished. Why doesn't everyone do this? And I trained at a competition gym where people would get it occasionally, and they even drained it there onsite. I always thought it's entirely avoidable. Maybe people let it happen as a badge of honor?

For some reason I have horrid preparation in regards to individual matches, and I feel like the stress of seeing "5 trillion wins by submission" on smoothcomp outweighs the benefits of maybe seeing one or two fights they might've uploaded on youtube. Is this bad practice in general or is this one of those "yeah whatever works," situations?

I am 190cm, I weigh around 81kg and I have a relative slim build, I am between a2L, a3 or a3L which should I get
I just don't want to keep spending money at the ENT. Auricular hematomas suck.
Not posible to get wrestling gear in my country, but plenty of rugby shops here.

In back control I’ll often hook one leg and triangle my legs for the beginnings of a twister but I’ll stay on the back and go for an RNC variation. What’s the name of this tech and where can I find more content on this position?
