question Front 2 Teeth Broken

Thumbnail

My mom tripped over her flipflop and fell face flat on the road while taking out the dog. She fell face flat and has broken her two front teeth. The right front tooth is broken but the broken piece is still in her mouth. The left front tooth is also broken diagonally. We are not able to find the broken part. Her two front teeth are still in the mouth and are not wobbling.

Would this require an extraction?

The first image is a front view. The second is from the bottom when it freshly happened.

I feel so upset for her. She has a beautiful smile.

question Don’t know what to do. Cavity or stain?

I went to Dr. A in December and he said I have cracks in some of my old silver fillings as well as cavities under them. I felt like he was pushing treatment so I didn’t get them filled.

Today I go to a different dentist and he says I don’t have any cavities and it’s just staining. I don’t know what to do now. Obviously I don’t want to walk around with cavities but I also don’t want to have unnecessary work done especially when I’m paying out of pocket.

question Can my teeth now be this bad off at a 6 mo checkup?

I’ve (F60) been going to the same dentist office for 5 years. I floss everyday, brush 2x a day. I go 2x yearly for checkups. I take 25 mgs metoprolol, 100 mg Seroquel at sleep, and 50 mgs Tramadol. I don’t drink soda or flavored drinks of any kind and drink unflavored water all day. I haven’t had any recent problems with my teeth (outside of a filling that fell out 3 mos ago & was replaced). The dentist I’ve had up till now has always said I have normal wear & tear for my age & has stated the last time I saw him 6 mos ago (when full ex-rays were taken), that my teeth look good.

Today I went for my normal cleaning, and found out my normal dentist has relocated to another state. The new dentist looked in my mouth for maybe 3 mins & said I needed 8 fillings & a new crown where my existing one is. She asked how old is your crown- I said 10 yrs. She said well that’s old, you have to get it done now. Btw She did not take new X-rays.

Is it possible someone could have this much dental damage within 6 mos? Do you recommend I get a second opinion?

Thank you so much for all the help all of the dental experts here give to us!

He uses dip and smokes. He says he goes through phases and when he’s stopped dipping in the past the gum recession got better. I’m concerned for him! What are your opinions? What are those bruise looking spots on the bottom!?

question Cavity or Staining

Post image

I was checking for cavities and I came across this tooth with a tiny black speck. Im not sure weather to think it is a cavity that needs to be checked out immediately or just staying. I would really appreciate someone who knows what they’re talking about to weigh in.

other Why are regular dental checkups important?

Upvotes

Even if your teeth don't hurt, routine dental checkups can help detect cavities, gum disease, and other oral health concerns before they become more serious.

Preventive care is often easier than treating advanced dental problems.

other How often should you replace your toothbrush?

Upvotes

Many people continue using the same toothbrush for much longer than recommended.

Dentists generally advise replacing your toothbrush every 3–4 months, or sooner if the bristles become frayed. A fresh toothbrush helps clean teeth more effectively and supports good oral hygiene.

question What is going on with this tongue?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

For about a month and a half I’ve noticed a red spot on my tongue that has kinda changed shape and maybe healed? and also gotten bigger. I saw my dentist and they couldn’t figure it out and just took pictures. There’s no pain, no burning or foods bothering it. I almost feel like they are dismissing me but don’t even know what to ask if I get a second opinion. I’m a 26 yr old female with no big health issues that I know of. No tooth issues either. I was offered a retainer to protect against trauma maybe. I assumed it’s from thrusting my tongue to my teeth in an anxious way or something in my sleep. Any insights or suggestions on what to ask or how to explain this? First pic is recent at the dentist and second is when I first noticed it. I have used zyns for almost five years as well, no drinking or drugs.

question Temporary crown is gone and am about to travel

Upvotes

Got a temporary crown on 7/21 for a root canal on #13 done on 7/17. As I was laying in bed I noticed some sensitivity in the tooth and that I was no longer feeling the temp crown pressing into my gums, as it was before (they had a really difficult time and 3 attempts getting the temp crown on because a lot of the side of my tooth where the cavity was got removed; not sure if this meant it was fitting badly or what). Checked in the mirror and in my inexpert opinion I’m reasonably confident the crown is no longer there and I have no idea where it went. I am out of town and unable to see the dentist Thursday and Friday, and I have an appointment on Tuesday 7/28 for the permanent crown. Is there anything I can do in the meantime besides eating carefully until then?

question Bone Graft Check, is it healing properly?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I got a tooth extraction 4 days ago and a bone graft.
In the first day, I noticed that there were some pieces coming out on gauze and after 2 times changing it, pieces keep coming out. I have dental mirror and checked. The graft looks sunken/deep? Looks my bone is exposed or the graft? Idk. Hard to reek with the saliva in there. But with the dental mirror, it's better to at and looks it's sunken with this pieces missing. Or is it suppose to be like that? It looks like one of the root areas doesn’t have the graft?

question Is this an abscess?

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

Went to the movies on Saturday and ate popcorn. Saturday evening started to get some pain near my bottom left impacted wisdom tooth (it's been impacted for 10 years+). Sunday morning the pain was much worse and I've been taking ibuprofen ever since to manage the pain. I went to the dentist yesterday and he said there was no obvious sign of infection and it could just be some trauma to the area causing the pain. I wondered if maybe a popcorn kernel hurt me perhaps. He told me to wait it out a week and see if the pain goes away.

Only looked properly at it myself today with a torch and it looks like a little bump with pimple-like head. That is the area where the pain is coming from. If I gently push it, it is very tender and feels squishy compared to the right side of my mouth. Could this be an abscess?

I'm debating whether to go back before the week is up or take his advice and wait it out.

question How do I find the right dentist?

I have pretty severe dental fear and as a result I have years of deferred treatment to take care of. The last time I went I was quoted $95K for extractions and implant supported dentures. I should probably shop around but I don't have the heart to see 20 dentists.

I need to do something at this point and I just don't know where to start. Every dentist in my area claims to specialize in fearful and anxious patients, it feels like that's just something they say by default.

Also, with a moth full of bad teeth and a lack of $96K, are there certain types of dentists who can get me where I need to be over a couple of years? Or will I likely need to just keep saving to do it all at once?

I don't drink or smoke, no medical conditions.

question Persisting pain in cheeks after wisdom teeth + Gingivectomy

Upvotes

Apologies if this ends up being nothing much/overreacting, I have severe dental anxiety and do not handle anything teeth related well, LOL.

I just got my wisdom teeth out on the 17th. All four (two top, two bottom) were removed, and I was overdue for them to be removed by a few years. I also had a gingivectomy done while I was under, as I had teeth with major cavities that were entirely covered by gums.

I've been eating solid foods for about 3-ish days now, and while it's been kind of painful (especially if i accidentally chew with my side teeth), it hasn't been anything too bad. However, tonight I'm in a little more pain than usual. It's in both cheeks, though earlier it was just in my left cheek. It's like a hot, tingly persisting soreness that doesn't go away, even with ibuprofen. When my teeth slightly touch, or when I make facial expressions it hurts was worse.

I don't feel anymore stitches hanging in my mouth anymore, but when i feel to where it's sore in my cheeks, I can feel something kind of rough (maybe more stitches?). Yesterday I had a bowl of chilli with tortilla chips, and today I had spaghetti with a few pieces of chicken.

I am, again, severely anxious about the dentist so I may be overthinking this. Is this a normal pain from eating? Could it be from the gingivectomy/cavities? Am I perfectly fine, and just need to relax, or do I need to see a dentist?

question cavity food options

Hi! i recently got told i have a shit ton of cavities, like A LOT, an absurd amount. i do snack a lot on sweets and had other problems that probably contributed to this, but still it was shocking.

i’ve started brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing once a day, and swishing my mouth with water after everything i eat.

i don’t know if ill be able to get them filled soon, as i have very little money saved, but that is on my agenda.

anyway, i enjoy eating out, since im not too good of a cook. i like subway, qdoba, and other fast food restaurants like that. obviously i should avoid desserts and stuff, but what would i be able to eat today without making the decay worse? i want to look after my teeth, but still enjoy my life and not obsess over it.

any help is appreciated!

question Chipped/cracked molar. What would you do for treatment?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I noticed a chip out of the cusp of one of my back right molars. The molar is slightly sensitive but it doesn’t hurt. The tooth already has a filling in it. I can’t tell if the chip is superficial or if should be more concerned about it. It looks like there is a slight grey line down the tooth from where the crack is. I do plan on seeing a dentist. I just wanted opinions.

question Opinions on my new dental routine?

Upvotes

[24M] I recently learned after going to a long overdue dental appointment that I’m gonna need about 6 crowns and 4 fillings in the near future. My dental routine was incredibly poor until recently, and I’m trying to take back control of my health. I was prescribed ClinPro, and my hygienist recommended electric brushes and water flossing, so now I’m using all 3 daily. I want opinions on if this is a good routine, because it’s what I’ve been doing since i learned how bad my situation was.

Morning
- Mouthwash
- Wait 20-30 minutes
- Brush with prescription toothpaste

Midday
- Minimize acidic drinks, exclusively water most days

Evening
- Floss entire mouth with both floss picks and WaterPik
- Mouthwash
- Wait 20-30 minutes
- Brush with prescription toothpaste
- Go to bed

I already have one of the crowns and fillings done, and I want to make sure they last as long as possible because of how expensive they are. Is this just right, excessive, etc?

question Do I have gingivitis or periodontal disease?

Thumbnail

I haven’t got my teeth cleaned for 2 years now due to losing insurance and not having any. My teeth feel like they are at their worst state, even after brushing them they feel rough. Whenever I floss my gums bleed. Some parts of my gum especially in the first picture beside my canine tooth stays red and inflamed and has been like that for weeks now. The redness won’t go away. I have a lot of plaque buildup and decalification. I also have really bad health anxiety. I’m in a situation where I don’t know what to do since I don’t have insurance.

I dont smoke or drink and no meds. It feels sore and irritated.

This isn't the best quality, but there's like a small white thing? Could it be a cranker sore?
